When it comes to LGBTQ+ representation, just seeing queer people on a TV screen is no longer sufficient for young people who are looking for answers. The way different shows depict the non-straight experience feels more vital than it did even 10 years ago due to an influx of streaming options and the variety of places and people the shows originate from. In the past, it often felt like LGBTQ+ characters received demeaning story arcs, such as being resigned to the villain role or being abruptly killed off in genres such as horror or crime dramas. This created a yearning for a delineated utopia of gay life, and Netflix’s Heartstopper thoroughly fulfilled that prototype.
The adaptation of Alice Osman’s graphic novels is a sugar rush, a righting of all the wrongs queer people have undergone both through media and in the real world.

When Fredrik Backman’s bestselling novel A Man Called Ove was turned into an international hit film, it seemed inevitable that another of the Swedish author’s bestsellers would adapted for the big screen. Britt-marie Was Here (Britt-Marie Var Har) is a Swedish drama/comedy based on Backman’s bestseller of the same name, about a 63-year-old woman who takes a job as a youth soccer coach in a little town, even though she knows nothing about the sport. The success of A Man Called Ove set a pretty high bar for this film. While Britt-marie also focuses on a flinty older person, this is more modest stuff than that epic tale.
Britt-Marie (redoubtable Swedish star Pernilla August) is a 63-year-old housewife who likes everything tidy, organized and clean. She lives by the motto that a clean house says everything about you, and takes pride in keeping hers neat and polished.

"The kids have no confidence in me. I know nothing about soccer." Cohen Media Group has released the official Us trailer for a Swedish drama called Britt-Marie Was Here, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Fredrik Backman ("A Man Called Ove"). This premiered at the Göteborg Film Festival earlier this year. Directed by Swedish actress / filmmaker Tuva Novotny, the film tells the story of a woman who leaves her husband after 40 years to find some new meaning in life. Backman's "particular brand of witty humor and inspiring themes of self-discovery have effectively been captured," with a stand-out lead performance by Pernilla August in the main role. It also stars Peter Haber, Malin Levanon, Vera Vitali, Olle Sarri, Mahmut Suvakci, Lancelot Ncube, and Anders Mossling. This looks fun! Even if you're not someone who is leaving their marriage after 40 years, there's still some charming entertainment to be found in here.

If the rise of Nordic Noir has managed to achieve anything, it is to provide viewers with a whole new world of refreshing shows that we weren’t yet aware of. One of these shows is Beck, and with Beck the Series: Volume 2 we are not let down when it comes to quality.
Based on the Swedish novels by the stories are presented in four 90 minutes episodes which involve the beating to death of a reporter, death of a policeman, a mysterious body burnt in a caravan, and an unexplained shooting of two traffic officers. As always with this type of show, we also get a glimpse into the lives of the police investigating.
While the show focuses on Beck (Peter Haber) as the main character, fans of Game of Thrones will also notice the inclusion of Kristofer Hivju who became somewhat of a cult favourite in the popular show.

Playing computer hacker, Lisbeth Salander, Noomi Rapace embodies the character in such a exhaustive way that picturing anyone else in the role was, until recently, impossible. Defined by copious piercings, a ragged biker leather jacket and skinny jeans, Lisbeth is a blatant symbol of unconformity. From author Stieg Larsson’s creation to costume designer Cilla Rörby’s interpretation for the screen, Lisbeth harks back to the mid-1970s; the early days of punk and a desire to skew superficial expectations.
Lisbeth’s costume changes for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009, directed by Niels Arden Oplev) are faithful, certainly in spirit, to Larsson’s Millennium novels. The overall shock factor has been toned down somewhat, likely because Rörby did not want Lisbeth to appear distractingly outrageous.

This is the Pure Movies review for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo starring Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, Lena Endre, Peter Haber, Sven-Bertil Taube, Peter Andersson, Ingvar Hirdwall. Directed by Niels Arden Oplev. Adapting any novel is a challenge; faithful readers can be very demanding, wanting films to live up to their high expectations. When it comes to putting such a hyped up and critically acclaimed novel on to the big screen, the task is that much harder. Larsson’s debut novel is dark, twisting and impossible to put down. And while the Swedish makers of this film have done an excellent job of evoking the bleak atmosphere of the book, the awkward chopping of the plot failed to hold me in quite such thrall. Despite this I think they met this ambitious project with equanimity and overall have a successful film on their hands.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Directed by: Niels Arden Oplev Written by: Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg (screenplay), Stieg Larsson (novel) Starring: Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, Sven-Bertil Taube, Peter Haber Over the past year it seems like everyone has been talking about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and apparently I'm one of the last people on the planet to find out who this girl is and, more importantly, where that tattoo is located. The only thing I really knew about this movie is that it was based on a popular Swedish novel and that David Fincher was attached to direct an English language remake. That was enough to get me interested, but the the fact that it is the first in a series of books all called "The Girl Who..." made me think that it might be another teen series in the vein of Twilight or Harry Potter.

English language version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is coming!
And this U.S. remake of the hit 2009 Swedish film will be directed by the man we all remember from movies like Se7en or Fight Club or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button… Yes, we’re talking about David Fincher!
If you had a chance to watch this Swedish film, then you definitely know it is a very heavy movie, an epic tale of serial murder and corporate trickery spanning several continents.
This is an award-winning crime novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, and the first in his Millennium Trilogy.
For those who aren’t so familiar with the whole project, we’re going to remind you what the basic story is actually about: “16-year old Harriet Vanger disappeared without a trace, on September 29th 1966. Nearly forty years later, a journalist gets contacted by...

Chicago – Literary mysteries are harder to adapt for the big screen than one might assume. The trick is to make audiences feel like they’re discovering secrets right alongside the characters. We want to share in their exhilaration, their terror, their epiphanies.
We don’t want wordy explanations, which are the only “thrills” offered from Ron Howard’s botched “Da Vinci Code” films. We want an out-of-body experience, which is exactly what a film like Guillaume Canet’s “Tell No One” delivers. Canet adapted Harlan Coben’s novel in a way that allowed viewers to follow in the footsteps of his protagonist as he uncovered one stunning secret after another. It was a commercial triumph at art houses across America, and now “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” seems to be aiming for a similar success. And while it is no “Tell No One,” it is certainly no “Da Vinci Code” either.

Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.
