The prizes have been dished out at Houston and Anchorage, but we can see the film in Settle, Keighley, Bowness, Hexham and other points north
Alright, I come clean. This is a bit of an excuse to use some more pictures of the grim north, in the form of the Yorkshire Dales.
I'm inspired partly by the Guardian's use of a mouth-watering tempter to visit Gunnerside in Swaledale which they kindly used to illustrate my farewell piece to the north in today's paper. But more because yet another film based in this Heaven-on-Earth is doing well internationally.
It's called Lad: A Yorkshire Story and is the work of writer and director Dan Hartley who grew up in the Dales but now frequents such exotic places as Houston in Texas and Anchorage, the state capital of Alaska. In the former, his film is getting a best-feature prize at Worldfest and at the latter,...

Read More- The worst Irish accents in Hollywood movies Read More- Clips of the top ten worst Irish accents in Hollywood In recent research conducted by the Harris Poll, women voted Irish as the sexiest accent around. So given the gift of the blarney, there are few things like an Irish brogue. As an Irish person living abroad, it’s common to get interrupted mid sentence with the statement, “Is that an accent I hear?” For many the Irish accent is difficult to understand as they mock our Darby O’Gill twang, but for others our unique drawl is a source of admiration. And so, as our popular tones infiltrate the world, the question remains -- who has the best Irish accent? Does it go to the Dubs, the Corkonians or the lads from Barnsmore Gap in Donegal? Is it Mary from the Liberties who sells you your fish on Moore Street in Dublin,...

There are plenty of innovative modular buildings out there, but Wolverhampton, England's new Victoria Hall high-rise may be the most ambitious yet. One of the buildings in the mixed-use apartment complex is the largest in the world using off-site--or modular--construction methods. The ground floor of the 25-story building is being built on site, but all other floors are made from 383 modules built in Cork, Ireland and shipped over to England.
Victoria Hall Ltd. didn't just set the modular building record for fun--the company was charged with the task of building student housing, and fast, with minimal funds and little available space. So the company elected to have Vision Modular Structures build the modular units, each of which has its own structural steel frame, concrete floors, and drywall walls and ceilings. The 21 to 29 ton modules were put in place with a crane. Afterward, pre-installed electrical and plumbing components were connected.
