Showcase is likely the series that comes to mind when one thinks of Silver Age DC Comics anthologies, but The Brave and the Bold may have an even greater legacy. Sure, the former introduced some of the most important Silver Age heroes, including Barry Allen as the Flash and Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. But The Brave and the Bold changed comics forever with the introduction of the Justice League of America in its 28th issue. Not only did the Jla become DC’s premier superhero team but its success prompted Atlas Comics publisher Martin Goodman to tell his editor Stan Lee to give superheroes a shot, leading to the creation of the Fantastic Four and the Marvel Universe.
So it’s no small thing that DC Comics plans to bring The Brave and the Bold back as part of its Dawn of DC storytelling initiative next year. Spinning out...

As Grant Morrison wraps up his sprawling multiversal epic in The Green Lantern, the architect of the modern DC Metaverse will also be finishing his foray into Earth One. Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 3, the finale of Morrison and Yanick Paquette’s multi-year graphic reimagining will be arriving in stores this march.
Volume three picks up right where the last story left off. After successfully beating back Uberfraulein, the leader of an invading Nazi force who the Amazons attempted to rehabilitate after her capture, Wonder Woman has become queen of the Amazons. Diana is preparing her sisters for an attack from man’s world; specifically, government weapons dealer Max Lord and his A.R.E.S. armors. She’s determined to fight back against what she perceives as the god of war and try and bring Themiscyran values to the world of man.

Green Lantern Earth One was an exciting introduction to the Hal Jordan of that portion of DC Comics’ multiverse, and it’s finally getting a follow up this summer. Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko are back on Earth One with July’s Green Lantern Earth One Vol. 2, and they’re making the Green Lantern Corps and their villains even bigger.
The story picks up three years after the events of the first book, with Hal trying to turn Earth into an intergalactic player after discovering just how vast the universe beyond our solar system is. In Volume Two, a new threat emerges from beyond the edges of the galaxy: Yellow Lanterns.
These Yellow Lanterns are from Qward, the planet where the Guardians fled to after losing control of the Manhunters, and the Yellow Lanterns look like their replacements. They’re weirdly rigid and united, Hal’s first clue that something’s wrong.

Ewan McGregor recently received widespread acclaim for his villainous performance as Roman Sionis in the Dceu’s Birds of Prey, which marked the actor’s first foray into the world of comic book movies. However, it turns out that he could have made his debut in the genre over two decades previously in a Marvel adaptation, when Fox were toying with the idea of making a Silver Surfer pic.
Superhero movies weren’t exactly big business in the 1990s, and wouldn’t experience a resurgence in popularity until X-Men and Spider-Man exploded into theaters at the turn of the millennium, but storyboard artist Gabriel Hardman recently revealed that he did some concept work on the proposed Silver Surfer, as well as dropping some details on the cast and crew.

Bizarro uses baffling verb tense to wreck space-time in The Terrifics.
Gene Luen Yang made our Best Comics of 2019 list for Superman Smashes the Klan, and it is an incredible Superman comic. It's already one of my all-time favorites. I can't wait for it to wrap and come out in a digest I can pass on to newer readers in my life. But if you factor in degree of difficulty, I think his work on The Terrifics might actually be better.
First of all, the last several issues have been written with healthy doses of Bizarro-speak. Trying to reverse dialogue on its own is difficult enough, but when we talked to him about Superman Smashes the Klan earlier this year, Bizarro came up and Yang told us something terrifying: "...There's no established rules for Bizarro speak."
That's right. There's no established house rule for how to translate normal conversation into Bizarro.

Another year in the books, another batch of incredible comics for you to read! These are the best comics of 2018.
Comics, like all art, can be a mirror on society or a safe harbor from its worst tendencies, and thankfully again in 2018, we got some incredible books this year. I’ve been watching our pull lists since the calendar flipped in January, keeping an eye out for the best comics to share with you, and we’ve finally cut it down to just 10. But first, a few honorable mentions.
Yoshitoki Oima’s To Your Eternity was probably the best new manga I read this year, but I kept it off the list because as good as the newest volumes are, the first one is stellar and it was published too early. Transformers: Unicron is a great way to end a fascinating era of Transformers comics, one that...

So, what do you do when you want to draw in new readers to characters you have been publishing for over half a century? Why, you spruce them up of course. While long term fans like myself are happy wading through decades of continuity, amazingly some folks aren’t. So the solution is essentially to reboot in a different continuity. DC have done it in the past with their Elseworlds books, which in general are excellent, while their Earth One books are a posher extension of that. The first Earth One book came out in 2010 and featured, naturally enough, Superman. It was excellent, and lead to Earth One versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans and now, Green Lantern.
Most casual fans know the character of Green Lantern and his power ring, but are probably not...

Raising a child in deep space can be difficult enough on its own, but throw in a horde of lethal Xenomorphs and you really have to be a great parent to keep your family safe. Presenting two real-life stories from my days of yore, although names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty.
Story The First:
I knew a girl in high school – I wouldn’t say we were friends, but she was someone who had never participated in the Piggy horrors. Sally was an A+ student, on the track to an Ivy League school. Pretty (but not gorgeous) and popular (but quiet about it), she came to me one day and said that she needed to talk to me privately. I was surprised… and a bit suspicious. What did she want? But because Sally had never been overtly mean to me, even though she was part of the clique that instigated most of the callous cruelties upon me, and because I still hoped to be “accepted,” and I wanted to believe for some reason she was about to warn me...

"...this 'James Bond' spin-off highlighting the '007' American counterpart, finds 'Felix Leiter' in Japan, tracking down a beautiful, Russian spy from his past. But when the mission takes a turn for the worse, he will discover that there are more deadly schemes afoot in Tokyo and beyond..."

Logan director James Mangold continues to tease Wolverine fans with images from the final chapter of Logan's feature film journey. Today we have a new photo of Hugh Jackman as an old, worn-down Wolverine dressed to kill. We also have two awesome pieces of concept art below for you to check out. The concept art was drawn up by artist Gabriel Hardman. The first shows a close up of Logan ready to battle, and the second features the character showing up at the Liberty Motel where something is obviously going down.
Logan takes place in the year 2024...Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.

Indian Summer, autumn’s first batch of orange-hued fallen leaves and New York Comic Con have all tumbled away, relegated to that odd intersection of fond memories and the comfortable knowledge of their inevitable return. The New York Comic Con, now the nation’s largest geek culture convention, seems to change each year. And after more than a decade of growth, it’s changing in many weird and wonderful ways.
I’ve been there from the beginning and, during the early years worked, on the show. We had a vision for the convention and it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. And in many ways … it hasn’t.

Despite the fact that Logan hits theaters next March, 20th Century Fox is very much taking a slow burn approach when it comes to the marketing campaign. Sure, we’ve had a teaser poster and a string of mysterious images from an official Instagram account, but it definitely feels like a trailer is long overdue at this stage. When we’re going to get that remains to be seen, but Logan director James Mangold took to Twitter earlier today to share some storyboards from the movie.
Illustrated by Image Comics artist Gabriel Hardman (whose big screen credits include the likes of Interstellar and Inception), they depict Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine leaping onto on oncoming vehicle and using his claws to smash through the windscreen in a bid to get his hands – claws? – on an unknown foe. Could that be the villainous Donald Pierce?

Invisible Republic #1
Written by Gabriel Hardman & Corinna Bechko
Art by Gabriel Hardman
Colors by Jordan Boyd
Published by Image Comics
Coming out this week from Image is a book from the minds of Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko, the title in question is Invisible Republic. It’s the distant space-faring future, again, where humankind has fallen into poverty with the collapse of the Malory Regime. A has-been novelist by the name of Croger Babb is in search of a story on the Regime but has failed to grasp the right audience. However, a chance encounter lands him with what could be the story of a life time: the journal of Maia Reveron, the untold cousin of former dictator Arthur McBride and with her the untold story of the Malory Regime.
It seems one thing that Image has been putting out as of late are comics that do the difficult-to-pull-off dual narrative.

What a year for horror comics! There's been so much to read. We've seen Hellboy wander around hell (after killing the devil). We've seen Rick Grimes and company struggle along against a demented foe in The Walking Dead. Hell, we've even seen Kiss fight off the martians from Mars Attacks (though we really wish we didn't). Now let's take a moment and look back on our favorite "single issues" from the past year. We don't mean a comic series as a whole - just the single comic book issue in and of itself. From one-shots to standout issues… it's time to hone in on our fanaticism!

That big "boom" you heard was the sound of up-and-coming comic book company Boom! Studios closing an unprecedented deal with movie studio giant 20th Century Fox.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the Boom!/Fox partnership comes hot on the heels of the success of the Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington late-summer action film "2 Guns," a property based on a Boom! Studios series from 2007. The deal marks a big win for comic book companies and creators. Under the new deal, Boom! Studios will get first-dollar gross from Fox movies based on its properties. Those earnings will then be split up in half, with the publisher and the comic book creators each getting paid.

From Corina Bechko and Gabriel Hardman comes Station to Station, an ambitious if slightly overstuffed piece of sci fi action. Collecting a story originally printed in Dark Horse Presents #19-21, Station to Station opens with a mysterious disaster striking Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay area. Our action hero/scientist Tim has been mucking about in inter-dimensional travel, having built a machine to peek into other universes. As is the norm in sci-fi, Tim’s ambitions and technology betray him, and he accidentally opens a door when he meant to only open a window. Which means dinosaurs and aliens attacking the Earth, with more to follow. It falls to Tim to set it all straight before the world falls to ruin.

20 pages or so is not a lot of time to tell a story,...

Dark Horse Comics does horror arguably better than any other imprint right now. Not only is B.P.R.D.: Hell On Earth bringing on the apocalypse in the best possible way (… is there a good way to bring about the apocalypse?), but fantastic mini-series like Colder, Breath Of Bones, Richard Corben’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, and continuations of the classics Creepy and Eerie prove that the publisher is a permanent fixture for things that go bump in the night. At the Dark Horse panel Four Colors Of Fear, comic book gurus Paul Tobin, Eric Powell, Gabriel Hardman, Borinne Bechke, Scott Allie, and Tim Seeley shared the details of projects that should once again make monster fans wave their pompoms.
Gabriel Hardman and Borinne Bechke described their three-part serial called Station To Station by enthusiastically mentioning “interdimensional tenctacle monsters” and “giant fetuses in slingshots”. I have no idea...
