Olivia Colman no doubt is a period piece “Favourite.”
The Oscar winner, who took home an Academy Award for portraying an emotionally stunted queen in “The Favourite,” transforms into the iconic spinster Miss Havisham for the upcoming FX and BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “Great Expectations.”
The limited series is currently filming in the UK and stars Colman as Havisham, an elderly woman once jilted at the altar who is revengefully wearing her wedding dress and veil until she dies. Havisham lives with her adoptive daughter Estella (Shalom Brune-Franklin). Fionn Whitehead plays the lead character, orphan Pip.
The six-episode series is written and executive produced by Steven Knight and additionally stars Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle, Rudi Dharmalingam, and Matt Berry.
The coming-of-age story “Great Expectations” was first published by author Dickens in a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860, before culminating in the classic novel.

It’s been more than two years since FX and BBC One renewed Tom Hardy’s high-profile period drama series Taboo for an eight-episode second season. But the new season is not much closer to reality now than it was when originally ordered in April 2017.
Taboo is created by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight with Hardy and his dad, Chips Hardy, written by Knight and starring Hardy.
“I can’t even tell you how many conversations we’ve had but we literally talked to (Knight) about it yesterday,” FX Chairman John Landgraf told Deadline at TCA. “He has an idea for a potential second and a potential third season of Taboo.” (Knight also had told Deadline in 2017 that he had plans for three seasons.)
“It really just comes down to Tom; it comes down to what Tom wants to do, when he wants to do it, when he is available,” Landgraf said.

Tom Hardy’s Taboo has headed for China after Alibaba and Youku struck deals for the FX and BBC drama.
The two companies struck the deals for the period thriller with The Media Pioneers, a UK-China media group run by Managing Director Maggie Liang. It will air on the digital platforms of both firms.
Produced by Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker and starring Tom Hardy, Taboo aired on BBC One in the UK and FX in the Us in 2017. Both broadcasters revealed in March 2017 that they were working on a second season of the show while Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, who created the series with Hardy and his dad Chips Hardy, told Deadline last year that he had plans for three seasons.
Set in 1814, the first season follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed.

Hearing Tom Hardy speak about James Delaney doesn’t feel that far removed from watching the Oscar-nominated actor play the enigmatic lead of FX’s drama.
“He’s silent on the outside because inside, he’s got a very, very busy head, which is kind of terrifying for him in some aspects,” Hardy recently told IndieWire at Pasadena’s Langham Huntington Hotel. “And [his thoughts are] unprocessed. He’s kind of figuring it out.”
Hardy, who created “Taboo” with Chips Hardy (his father) and Steven Knight, is doing the same. The thoughts in his head are being forced out, and processing them is half the fun.
Hardy knows the character inside and out, but there are so many elements thrown into the mix — Hardy cites Bill Sikes from “Oliver Twist,” Marlow from Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness,” Hannibal Lecter, “an irascible kind of Duke” and “maybe even a werwolf!” in his ever-growing...

He's created a series of performances that have taken advantage of his intensity, his brutish physique and his way around a multi-syllable sentence – and now, Tom Hardy has somehow created a role for himself that feels more Tom Hardy than almost anything else he's done. In Taboo, the new FX series the actor co-created with father Chips Hardy and Peaky Blinders showrunner Steven Knight, he plays gruff protagonist James Delaney, an early 19th-century explorer who returns home to London to find out he's inherited land sought after by the East India Company.

With parental guidance from Chips Hardy, Tom’s father, who’s also credited as a series creator, and the big name draw of executive producer Ridley Scott, one mustn’t strain themselves when searching for motivation to tune in for the premiere this coming Tuesday.
The show is set in 1814 London, in the thick of the War of 1812 between Great Britain/Canada and the “15 United States of America.” The East India Trading Company, whose tyrannical depiction in the series ignited a bit of controversy prior to the show’s release, are attempting to monopolize trading routes on both coasts of America. Some stories want to explore big ideas. Some strive to be allegorical, existential, soapy, or good ol’ fashioned fun. And some stories just want to watch the world burn.
The origins of that line lead to “The Dark Knight,” not “The Dark Knight Rises.” The latter would be more fitting since it featured Tom Hardy, co-creator and star of the new FX limited series, “Taboo,” in which the star of “Warrior” and “Mad Max” burns down the world and everyone in it.
Since Hardy is the modern-day embodiment of masculine cool, that would be a fine pitch right there; plenty of series have been built on less. However, while “Taboo” may prioritize style over depth, the result is an addictive, slow-burn story, and a damn entertaining journey.

Whether it’s the formidable Bane or Charles Bronson (real name Michael Gordon Peterson), throughout the course of his stellar career, Tom Hardy has developed a knack for characters that are as dark as they are fiercely intense. Last year, for instance, his fiery, yet understated performance as Max Rockatansky was enough to leave even Immortan Joe quaking in his boots, and Tom Hardy fans will soon be turning their gaze toward Taboo, FX’s upcoming miniseries that places the British actor in the grubby boots of swashbuckling adventurer, James Keziah Delaney.
From the character description alone, we know that Delaney is “a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed,” but thanks to today’s deluge of Taboo promos, we get to see a glimpse of Hardy’s scenery-chewing role. As the key creative mind behind Peaky Blinders, it’s little wonder why FX quickly commissioned Steven Knight’s new, eight-part miniseries Taboo without a moment’s hesitation.
Hatched alongside Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy, the British period drama takes place during the 19th century, where Hardy – Tom, not Chip – will assume the role of swashbuckling adventurer, James Keziah Delaney.
With the pedigree of Knight behind the scenes, not to mention the fact that Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing, The Enfield Haunting) is on board to helm the first four episodes, there’s a crackle of excitement swirling around Taboo, and budding viewers can now look forward to the series premiering on January 10. Word comes hand-in-hand with the show’s key art, which you can find embedded below.

Three seasons into its run and with a host of prestigious awards already to its name, Peaky Blinders has fast carved out an audience of its own since its bow in 2013, thanks in large part to a cracking cast and that wonderful visual style. Imagine our excitement, then, now that series creator and showrunner Steven Knight is quietly packaging a new TV series for FX by the name of Taboo.
Similar to Blinders, Knight’s latest venture is a period drama by nature, this time rolling back the years to the 19th century to focus on one James Keziah Delaney – played here by a feral Tom Hardy, who has worked with Knight before thanks to Peaky Blinders and Locke. Pitched as an eight-part miniseries, Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing, The Enfield Haunting) is on board to direct the first half of Taboo, which will mine inspiration from a script penned by...

Tom Hardy is on the move right now, and since FX‘s Taboo is currently set to “probably” air in 2017, it’s a good idea to burn the show into people’s brains while we’re all hot for Hardy.
The show looks for all the world like the cinematic offspring of the combined well of recent “dark and creepy” efforts, and that’s at least partially because it has production/cast ties with Peaky Blinders.
Hardy will have a lot resting on his shoulders with this effort, as the short-run series apparently focuses heavily on his character. Hardy plays a presumed-dead son who reappears when his father dies, but most people might not want what he manages to inherit, which is largely a lot of people trying to kill him.
It’s hard to make a call based on a trailer alone, despite the inherent irony of that statement,...

Arguably one of the more overlooked gems on Tom Hardy’s résumé is Locke, Steven Knight’s minimalist thriller that had The Revenant star enclosed in a car for the entirety of its running time. The results were a surprisingly tense and gripping drama, so it’s little wonder Hardy and Knight are reteaming for FX and BBC One’s eight-part period drama, Taboo.
Sending Hardy’s back to the early 19th century as James Keziah Delaney, it’s understood the Oscar nominee penned the story along with his father, Chips Hardy, and Taboo is a dark family drama that will be brought to the small screen by Kristoffer Nyholm. (The Killing, The Enfield Haunting).
Inheriting his father’s shipping empire, James K. Delaney is left presiding over an ailing business, and it’s one that’s attracted some questionable customers in recent times. That leaves Hardy’s protagonist facing all manner of devious agendas,...

"I have sworn that I will do very, very foolish things," Tom Hardy says in the trailer for "Taboo," an upcoming period drama from FX and BBC One. Bring it on!
The "Revenant" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" star is heading to TV to headline a show based on an original story by Hardy and his dad, Chips Hardy. The son plays James Keziah Delaney, a man who returns to 1814 London after being presumed dead. He arrives to claim his father's fortune and shipping empire, but the tumultuous time he spent in Africa is nothing compared to the treachery he finds in London.
The eight-episode series boasts a great cast, including "House of Cards" actor Michael Kelly and "Game of Thrones" players Jonathan Pryce and Oona Chaplin. It looks like a tremendous showcase for Hardy. He's unlikely to win an Oscar this weekend, but maybe he can make up for it with an Emmy.

With Ridley Scott, Tom Hardy and Locke director Steven Knight attached to the project, it was only a matter of time before the high-profile BBC drama Taboo was picked up by a North American network. Well, today we’ve learned through Deadline that the project has indeed been acquired by FX, with production set to get underway during the latter stages of 2015.
Taking place in 1813, the series was created by Knight based on an original idea by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy. Following James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), the eight-episode season tells the tale of a rogue go-getter who returns home after a trip to Africa saw him recover no less than 14 precious diamonds. Soon, though, Delaney is placed at the head of the family business following the passing of his father, teeing up a narrative that will see Hardy’s stubborn visionary attempt to start up a shipping and trade company of his own.

FX has landed American distribution for the BBC One drama "Taboo" starring Tom Hardy. Set to begin production in the UK in mid-to-late 2015, "Taboo" won't actually premiere on FX until mid-2016, which is the kind of long-term planning you have to do when you're dealing with the star of "The Dark Knight Rises," "Bronson" and "Locke." Speaking of "Locke," which earned some of the year's best reviews, "Taboo" was created by "Locke" writer-director Steven Knight ("Dirty Pretty Things"), based on an idea from Hardy and his father Chips Hardy. Hardy will play a "rogue adventurer" named James Keziah Delaney, who returns from Africa with 14 diamonds and a desire to avenge the death of his father. Oh and the series begins in 1813, with Delaney's biggest adversary being none other than the Dutch East India Trading Company. "Taboo" will be produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Films and the actor's production shingle Hardy Son & Baker.

This is the actor’s latest foray into British television after recently coming on board the second season of BBC Two drama Peaky Blinders, which Knight also created.
