Comedian Katt Williams recently stirred up a lot of controversy when he hopped on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast. He referenced many other celebrities and comedians in the passionate interview, including the original kings of comedy.
His feud with the kings of comedy isn’t new, as it’s been spanning for decades. Which was why Williams was so adamant in surpassing them in the comedy space.

Williams has always made his feelings known regarding the proclaimed Kings of Comedy. The group famously consisted of Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, and the late Bernie Mac. Spike Lee once filmed the comic legends as each took turns sharing their material with a large audience. The original Kings of Comedy tour made $37 million.

Jon Stewart will make a surprising return to The Daily Show, 25 years after starting on the show. He will host the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week through the 2024 election cycle.
The news comes eight years after he stepped down from hosting the show, which revolutionized late-night television and brought through the likes of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee and Steve Carell.

Jon Stewart is returning as the host and executive producer of Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” Before you get too excited, the assignment is part-time, and the plan is for him to stay on as host through the November 2024 presidential election cycle, and EP at least through 2025.
Stewart will host the program only on Mondays, but executive produce every episode. The other evenings will be hosted by a rotating panel of the show’s “All-Star Correspondents.” If you’re wondering why Stewart is taking the Monday slot, it’s because that’s traditionally the most-watched “Daily Show” episode of the week, and acts as catch up for all the news that’s gone on over the weekend.
Although “The Daily Show” began in 1996 with Craig Kilborn as its host, the show rose in the public consciousness during Stewart’s time hosting from 1999 to 2015. Under Kilborn, the show was mostly irreverent and focused on pop culture.

Comedy Central is set to share a long-awaited update on the next chapter for “The Daily Show” next week.
The announcement, which follows the late night program winning a Primetime Emmy Award on Monday for Outstanding Talk Series, comes as the network has been searching for a permanent replacement for Trevor Noah for over a year. Noah, who took over hosting duties from Jon Stewart in 2015, exited the show in December 2022.
During the Emmys, former “Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood Jr. could be seen mouthing “Please hire a host” during Noah’s acceptance speech. Wood himself retweeted the clip, with the caption, “Chill, fam I was trying to do that in the low.”

Exclusive: The Daily Show was a surprise winner at the Emmys on Monday night.
The Comedy Central series won the award for Outstanding Talk Series for Trevor Noah’s final season, an emotional end to his seven-year run. Many expected Stephen Colbert to win for The Late Show or Jimmy Kimmel Live! but it was Noah that picked up the award, becoming the first Black man to lead a show to victory in the category.
Afterwards, a number of questions were directed towards Noah and the team about the future of The Daily Show, a fair ask given that it has now been over a year since Noah left the show.
Deadline understands that over the next few months, the focus will be on its correspondents to lead the show through this election year, rather than another phalanx of celebrity guest hosts.

Astute Emmy watchers noticed former “Daily Show” correspondent sending a silent message to Comedy Central producers on Monday night: “Please hire a host.”

Chris Rock and Kevin Hart, these names are always synonyms with laughter and humor, and of course, they are the doyens of standup comedy in the United States of America. When these two people come together no room can stay silent because most people are busy holding their stomachs and trying hard to control the laughter. For the first time, these two absolute giants who belong to two different generations of comedy come together to perform a standup special for a live audience.
There is genuine excitement for Chris Rock & Kevin Hart: Headliners Only, a Netflix original documentary that takes the audience through the behind-the-scenes footage of this standup special that spanned five shows. The documentary also covers the lives and times of the two struggling comics and their journeys to become among the most bankable comics of their respective generation. Can Netflix do for a show like “Reba” or “The Resident” what it did for “Suits?” That’s what we’ll find out next year when Disney begins licensing series to Netflix as part of a non-exclusive arrangement stretching through 2025.
Disney Entertainment and Netflix are in the works on finalizing a licensing agreement that will bring 14 different series from ABC, Fox, FX, and even ESPN to the streamer across 18 months, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire. At the time of this writing, the deal was not signed. Among the titles that will eventually make it are shows like “The Wonder Years,” “This Is Us,” “30 for 30,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Lost,” “Archer,” “Prison Break,” “Home Improvement,” and more.

Chris McCarthy has a big decision to make.
Nearly twelve months on to the day that Trevor Noah said goodbye to The Daily Show, the Comedy Central series still does not have a permanent host.
But a decision is expected soon with sources telling Deadline that Paramount is facing pressure to name a new host by the end of the year.
There have been a number of shortlists and stars mentioned throughout the process, which was hampered by the writers and actors strike, and obviously there was the Hasan Minhaj situation, where the Patriot Act star basically had the job before that New Yorker article came out.
But many in the late-night and comedy community believe that McCarthy and his team already have viable options right under their noses and with it the opportunity to shake-up the talk show landscape with a fresh take and in the process bolster diversity...

After "Saturday Night Live" ended season 48 a little prematurely back in the spring due to the Hollywood strikes beginning, the late night sketch comedy show returned for season 49 this weekend. Despite the fact that the Screen Actors Guild is still on strike while negotiating for a new deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), SAG-AFTRA gave its full support for the cast of "SNL" to return to work, which meant former cast member Pete Davidson finally got to make his hosting debut.
While it might seem like a quick turnaround for Davidson to return as host so soon after leaving at the end of season 47, plenty of other more recent cast members have come back to the show as host just as quickly, such as Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Bill Hader. Remembering The Comedians Of Comedy, Netflix's First True Original Production (A Quasi-Oral History)
If I asked you to name the first original production from Netflix, what would you say? An educated guess might bring you to "House of Cards" or "Lilyhammer," and that's a fair assessment. While the former was Netflix's first piece of original programming produced specifically for the company's streaming service (released in February of 2013), the latter technically has the honor of being Netflix's first original streaming production (premiering on Netflix in February of 2012), even though it was only partially funded by Netflix and actually premiered in Norway first under the TV network NRK1.
But what if I told you that neither of these was the first true Netflix original? What if I told you Netflix produced their first original production even before they created the now-defunct Red Envelope Entertainment? Yes, before streaming, Netflix had a film financing and acquisition arm that shuttered in 2008 after investing in more than 100 films and...

“Happy Juneteenth!”
The holiday, which was designated a federal holiday in 2021 and has been recognized within Black and African-American communities for far longer than that, has gained broader recognition in recent years.
Still, for many Americans there is much to learn about the new holiday. Many people of all races remain unsure of what Juneteenth is, mostly because not much is taught about the holiday in public schools.
Juneteenth, also referred to as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, commemorates the total abolition of slavery in the U.S. that took place on June 19, 1865. Although President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation three years earlier — making slavery illegal by Jan. 1, 1863 — many enslaved people were still not free because slave owners in the south, and particularly Texas, neglected to tell the people they enslaved for months.
In fact, many slave owners relocated the enslaved and plantations to Texas because it was viewed...

(Credit: Monty Brinton/CBS) Unamused with the long-winded explanation, Calvin takes over the conversation, saying, “Anyway we heard that you were having problems getting your Ev serviced. So, just here to tell you that I can fix it, and I’ll do it for free.” “You said, free?” Hughley says in disbelief,...

Global Digital Releasing, the film distribution company that launched in 2017 with the hit Welsh language drama “The Passing,” is changing lanes to focus primarily on documentaries and live television events, TheWrap can report exclusively.
“To be a boutique distributor in today’s overwhelmingly competitive content game has made it even more vital that we consistently evaluate the performance trends of our films. Undoubtedly, we’ve seen a steady uptick in both engagement and revenue streams of our documentaries, well above and beyond our narrative films,” Global Digital Releasing president Joe Dain said in a statement.
“We believe this change in direction will not only benefit documentary filmmakers by giving them a dedicated home in the indie space, but this niche will also help differentiate our label from the competition and allow us to excel in the sector.”

Since Trevor Noah left “The Daily Show” in December, the late-night Comedy Central program has been cycling through various guest hosts, a bold move that has been paying off in the show’s ratings.
The first wave of guest hosts included a variety of celebrities, including Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D. L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Hasan Minhaj, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken and John Leguizamo.
For the first quarter of 2023, “The Daily Show” saw its ratings climb 13% over the same weeks last year despite not putting a large amount of marketing into each guest host. On the social side, quarterly views jumped 16% compared to the same weeks last year.

Okay, I admittedly came in hot by calling the folks at Comedy Central "cowards" in that headline, because that's probably not the correct word to use to describe a channel that has been letting Trey Parker and Matt Stone run wild for over 25 years. When it was announced last fall that Trevor Noah would be leaving "The Daily Show" after seven fantastic years, fans immediately started fantasy booking his successor. There was a big push for Samantha Bee, of the recently canceled "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" to become the show's first full-time female host, with others hoping the job went to one of Noah's roll of correspondents. Comedy Central instead announced that they would showcase a weekly rotation of guest hosts, with some of comedy's smartest minds sitting behind "The Daily Show" desk.

The Daily Show used to have a white host?
Guest host and correspondent Roy Wood Jr. was joined by former host Jon Stewart in a bid to help him go viral, aiding his cause to get the desk job on a permanent basis.
Stewart, dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi, appeared on Wood Jr.’s second day in the hot seat, otherwise known as Donald Trump Arraignment Day.
“I used to work here when the budget wasn’t as big,” joked Stewart. “You’re doing a fabulous job by the way.”
Stewart’s entrance came after Wood Jr. discussed the first indictment of a U.S. President.
“I’m trying to go viral this week. There’s a lot of pressure as guest host. You’ve got to be funny. You’ve got to be satirical. You’ve got to be powerful. You’ve got to go viral, and I don’t know what to do,...

The Wayans family is in mourning. The patriarch, Howell Wayans, has died. He was 86.
Marlons Wayans, one of Howell’s 10 famous children, took to Instagram on Saturday and announced the tragic news while also paying tribute to his late father. Marlon recalled a story from his childhood, when he asked his father what he wanted to be when he grew up.
“He simply said ‘I wanted to be a man,'” Wayans wrote in his caption. “I said ‘not a lawyer? A doctor? An actor?’ He said ‘just a man.’ I said ‘but every boy becomes a man.’ Dad said, ‘Not true.’ I asked ‘then what’s a man?’ My Dad said ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities. His family is always First.’ From that day on I wanted to be a Man.'”

Exclusive: The Daily Show has been ticking along nicely with its phalanx of guest hosts including Chelsea Handler, Leslie Jones and Kal Penn.
The producers of the Comedy Central series are currently weighing up how they replace Trevor Noah in the hot seat come the fall, and one suggestion has been to continue the revolving roster of guest hosts on a permanent basis.
The ratings certainly suggest it’s working.
Comparing the first quarter of 2023 – Leslie Jones kicked off the new format January 17 – with the first quarter of 2022 when Noah was host, Deadline understands that linear ratings are up 13%. On the social side, views are up 16% in this period compared with last year.
Much of this has been done without much marketing; Deadline understands a push is being saved for when the new plan is in place later in the year.

Former “Daily Show” senior correspondent Hasan Minhaj is “pumped” to return to the late night satirical news program starting on Monday.
“It feels like a homecoming for me. It really was my comedy undergrad,” the two-time Peabody Award-winning comedian told TheWrap during an interview about his upcoming hosting stint for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
“I owe everything in my career to that show. It was the show that gave me health insurance, it was the show that gave me an opportunity to work with Jewish Yoda Jon Stewart. I got to work with Trevor Noah who was absolutely incredible and what he brought to the show was so different, and the thing that I certainly hope for it is I hope I bring something new to the show.”
Minhaj is one of multiple rotating guest hosts as the “Daily Show” team searches for a successor to Noah, who left after seven years.

“The Daily Show” guest host Dl Hughley had a good laugh at Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night, after Hannity admitted that “there is a small majority of bad cops,” and argued that they need to stop killing white people too. Hughley dubbed Hannity a “white Al Sharpton” for his comments.
The moment came as Hughley pulled up a segment of Hannity’s show, in which he called out “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg, for wondering if nationwide police reform would only happen if the victim was white.

A limited series about the Sandy Hook shooting and the ensuing eight-year legal battle between victims’ families and gun manufacturer Remington Arms has landed at Echo Lake Entertainment. Oscar nominee Robin Swicord (“When They See Us”) and Sarah Koskoff will create the show in consultation with several families directly affected by the tragedy and their attorneys.
Swicord, Koskoff and producer Mary Jane Skalski of Echo Lake Entertainment are teaming as executive producers to tell the story of the Sandy Hook case, which uncovered how a New York private equity firm purchased legacy American gun companies in the mid-2000s, effectively creating the equivalent of Big Pharma in the consumer arms industry. Swicord and Koskoff have followed the case closely and are consulting with several families who brought the lawsuit, as well as their attorney, Josh Koskoff (Sarah Koskoff’s brother).

Actor and comedian D.L. Hughley is the latest guest host of The Daily Show, following well-received turns from Leslie Jones and Wanda Sykes over the past three weeks. Unlike his predecessors, however, Hughley had some serious news to cover on his first night on the job. “I’m sure many of you have heard by now that a young Black man in Memphis was pulled over by the police, and we all saw how it went down,” Hughley said at the top of Monday’s (January 30) show before showing video footage of the police beating of Tyre Nichols, who died in hospital three days after the police encounter. In many of the clips, cable news hosts referred to the incident as “shocking,” to which Hughley responded, “You know who wasn’t shocked by that? Black people. The only people who were shocked by that are people that haven’t been paying attention.

I remember Leslie and I working together way back in the day before either of us was on American TV, and this was us doing comedy clubs in and around the U.S. I was chatting to her and telling her how proud I am and enjoying it for her,” Noah told THR.
“Wanda is a legend,” he adds, “so seeing her enjoying herself, expressing herself — I’ve been loving all of it.

Wanda Sykes has some questions for police about their time management after learning just how many tickets they give out on a daily basis.
In her penultimate show as “The Daily Show” guest host for the week, Sykes devoted an entire segment on Thursday night to discussing how police across the country dole out speeding tickets. According to the host, 112,000 speeding tickets are issued every day, and she was blown away by that number — and also, a bit confused.
“Yeah, that’s a lot of tickets,” Sykes marveled. “I’m like, where do they find the time to shoot people?”

Davidson had several tattoos referencing the reality star, as well as her kids, including one on his left collarbone that read, “My girl is a lawyer.”
But in October, the comedian was photographed with what appeared to be a bandage over the spot where that tattoo was, leading fans to speculate that he was having the ink removed.

You don’t necessarily have to be a dyed-in-the-wool journalist to get your own roost on CNN.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed network is considering working with talent from across the parent company, according to a person familiar with the matter. These people might contribute segments, digital projects, series or documentaries, this person says. CNN CEO Chris Licht is said to be engaged with conversations with as many as a dozen people about ideas related to health and lifestyle, comedy and sports. The concept, this source says, has the support of David Zaslav, CEO of the parent company.
CNN declined to make executives available for comment.
One of the ideas under consideration is having CNN use after-show segments from Bill Maher’s HBO series, “Real Time.” These segments, titled “Overtime,” have streamed for several years on YouTube and feature Maher talking with the bulk of that evening’s guests. The...

Ruth Negga (Preacher) will be entering the courtroom with Jake Gyllenhaal, who is in final negotiations to star in Apple TV+’s limited series Presumed Innocent.
Adapted by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) from Scott Turow’s book of the same name, the courtroom thriller is described as “the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.” The modern-day reimagining explores “obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

Roy Wood Jr. is considered as one of the potential hosts to replace Trevor Noah behind the desk at The Daily Show.
Deadline has reported that he and other correspondents including Desi Lydic are in the running to host the Comedy Central show permanently following Noah’s exit last year.
Wood is now taking steps to figure out his late-night future, which may or may not include that plum job, including parking his own podcast Roy’s Job Fair, which comes from Comedy Central and iHeart.
“This will be the last episode release of Roy’s Job Fair for a little while, while I figure out what the fuck to do in the world of late night,” he said on the podcast. “This is not an easy decision to come to. I went back and forth [asking] ‘I don’t know do you pull a Trevor Noah and say what you’re gonna do beforehand,...

Trevor Noah spent his last few moments behind the “Daily Show” desk reflecting. The comedian’s final episode as the host of Comedy Central’s flagship talk show was December 8. And rather than bring surprise cameo guests, the show opted for a low-key night looking back on Noah’s seven years leading the series.
The bulk of the episode was dedicated to a long segment featuring the current correspondents — Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Roy Wood Jr, and Dulcé Sloan — saying goodbye to Noah. Kosta presented a stock market chart of his friendship with Noah, Lydic performed a fake exit interview asking what her best trait is, Sloan questioned Noah about his plans once he leaves the show, Chieng tried to secure the position as host, and Wood tried to make Noah “come clean” about not being from South Africa.
The episode also featured a segment from contributor Jordan Klepper,...
