The most important rule of any film festival is to treat it as a marathon rather a sprint, to prevent hitting the wall. Don't get me wrong -- I'm still indulging free drinks at parties and late-night conversations about film and music -- but with the fear of altitude sickness and flu, I've been sleeping at least seven hours. My "sleep is the enemy" mantra is only effective for short-timers who are here for a long weekend.
My second day was fairly light as I continued to deal with the commute into Park City. I attended the press screening of Austin filmmaker Jeff Nichols' feature Mud, which seemed well received and which I thoroughly enjoyed. Afterwards I headed down to the Library for my first Sundance red carpet for The Spectacular Now, with a quick stop by the Stella Artois Studio for complimentary beer and a glimpse of spokesperson and British actor Noah Huntley.

Snow White and the Huntsman: Dark Forest monster vs. Kristen Stewart
Box office: Snow White and the Huntsman trailed both Ridley Scott / Michael Fassbender / Noomi Rapace’s horror sci-fier Prometheus and the Ben Stiller / David Schwimmer-voiced 3D animated feature Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted this past weekend at the North American box office. Directed by feature-film newcomer Rupert Sanders, Snow White and the Huntsman scored $23.05m according to box-office actuals found at Box Office Mojo. That’s down a hefty 59% from last weekend. [See also Box Office: Madagascar 3 Movie Beats Prometheus and Prometheus: An Unqualified Domestic Box-Office Hit?.]
Starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Sam Claflin, Snow White and the Huntsman was expected to reach $26-$28m over the weekend according to predictions and early Friday estimates. The fantasy adventure would thus pass the $100m milestone in North America after only 10 days. As a result of its steep attendance drop, that didn’t happen. Swath‘s cume after 10 days reached $98.53m.

Directed by feature-film first-timer Rupert Sanders, the period fantasy adventure stars The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2‘s Kristen Stewart, The Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth, Prometheus‘ Charlize Theron, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘ Sam Claflin. According to Box Office Mojo, as of Tuesday Snow White and the Huntsman‘s partially updated worldwide box-office cume stood at $106.45m. I say "partially" because although domestic box-office figures have been updated daily, international figures are estimates up to Sunday. For the record: Snow White and the Huntsman has taken in $67.15m in the Us/Canada and (as of Sunday) an estimated $39.3m in 45 markets. Swath easily topped the North American box office last weekend, though, screening at fewer theaters (and in...

Kristen Stewart, Snow White and the Huntsman Snow White and the Huntsman‘s box office grosses in North America have been far higher than anticipated. Directed by feature-film newcomer Rupert Sanders, and starring Breaking Dawn – Part 2‘s Kristen Stewart as Snow White, The Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, Prometheus‘ Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen Ravenna, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides‘ Sam Claflin as Prince Charming, Snow White and the Huntsman was expected to earn between $30m-$40m on its first weekend out. Instead, the $170m-budgeted Swath pulled in a remarkable $56.25m at 3,773 locations according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Another feat: Snow White and the Huntsman‘s grosses were bigger than the combined take of the next three films on the domestic box-office chart: Men in Black III ($29.3m), The Avengers ($20.27m), and Battleship ($4.81m). Additionally, Swath‘s opening-weekend gross is the...

New 'Snow White And The Huntsman' movie delivered great action, drama & more. Universal Pictures recently released their new fantasy/action flick "Snow White and the Huntsman" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was pretty entertaining as it served up a ton of action and drama. I have to admit, though, the trailers made it seem better than it actually was. It stars: Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Sam Spruell, Liberty Ross, and Noah Huntley. In the new flick, the king finds Ravenna (Charlize Theron) aka the evil queen , chained up after slaying an army, and decides to take her back to his palace to make her his queen, just like that. No hello, nothing. Surely enough, she killed him, and took...

Title: Snow White and the Huntsman Directed By: Rupert Sanders Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Toby Jones, Vincent Regan, Noah Huntley While I was determined to judge Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror impartially, from day one, I always had an inkling of which of the two I’d prefer. However, it turns out, even with the advantage of a little bit of bias, Rupert Sanders still couldn’t trump Tarsem Singh. In a darker twist on the beloved fairy tale, Snow White’s (Kristen Stewart) widowed father, King Magnus (Noah Huntley), marries the beautiful Ravenna (Charlize Theron) only [ Read More ]...

Let’s hope that Snow White & The Huntsman is the final revival of Snow White for awhile. Fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time have had their fill each week, Mirror, Mirror was an abomination, and readers of the Vertigo comic, Fables would agree that it remains as the best contemporary take on re-imagining fairy tales. But there was still plenty to like about this latest Hollywood endeavor, directed by Rupert Sanders, who makes his feature debut after building his reputation shooting commercials.
The story at its apple core is familiar. Evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron, Prometheus) tricks a widower King Magnus (Noah Huntley) into thinking she was a prisoner of a phantom army. She casts her spell but she doesn’t need to. Watch that Christian Dior “J’Adore” commercial and tell me none of you would have been crippled by Theron’s beauty.

Snow White and the Huntsman movie Snow White and the Huntsman box office: Starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Sam Claflin, Rupert Sanders‘ Snow White and the Huntsman opened strongly at Thursday midnight screenings in North America, grossing an estimated $1.38m at only 1,092 theaters. That’s nearly 40% more than the $1m earned by the Sam Worthington 3D fantasy Wrath of the Titans at nearly 1,500 sites, and more than twice the take of the Tim Burton / Johnny Depp comedy Dark Shadows ($550k at 1,600 locations). Another box-office comparison: Snow White and the Huntsman‘s $1,266 per-theater average far surpassed that of Will Smith / Tommy Lee Jones’ Men in Black III‘s $694 at 2,232 locations last week. Although it’s true that all things being equal, the fewer the number of theaters the higher the per-theater average should be, that doesn’t explain an 80% higher average for Swath. Not to mention the fact...

Other than the sadness of her mother's early death, Snow's childhood is idyllic and so is her surrounding world. The oh-so-peaceful and pure Snow loves nature just as much as nature loves her. Snow White and the Huntsman, Snow White’s Mother (Liberty Ross) Snow White and the Huntsman reviews have been mixed in the British and American media. (Please see link below.) Most critics have enthusiastically praised the film’s visuals and fairy-tale atmosphere, while complaining about its length and lack of dramatic cohesiveness. Directed by feature-film newcomer Rupert Sanders, previously a director of commercials, and starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Sam Claflin, Snow White and the Huntsman opened today in the UK and Ireland. Reviews for the film’s stellar cast have also been wildly mixed. If noticed at all, Thor / The Avengers‘ Chris Hemsworth has mostly gotten his Scottish accent dismissed as artificial. Some critics found Oscar winner Charlize Theron’s presence a welcome relief to Snow White and the Huntsman‘s gloomy tones; others, however, found Theron either too campy or not campy enough. (Theron, by the way,...
