"We're here to rob the bank... Don't be a hero!" Lionsgate has debuted an official Us trailer for American Heist, an action-thriller-drama from Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan starring Adrien Brody and Hayden Christensen as brothers with troubled pasts who get dragged into another bank robbery. It's yet another bank robbers need to leave their past but get caught up in one more job kind of movie, complete with the face mask heist and everything. Jordana Brewster, Tory Kittles and Akon also star in the film. It honestly doesn't look that great, yet another bland version of this same old story, but you never know. Here's the new Us trailer for Sarik Andreasyan's American Heist, in high def originally from Apple: If you're feeling like you've seen some of this before, we also ran an international trailer late last year. American Heist is directed by Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan (Pregnant...

"Banks are an essential threat to our democracy, so consider this justice." After winning an Academy Award for The Pianist, it's unfortunate that the career of Adrien Brody has mostly derailed. I couldn't even tell you the last time I saw a great movie with Brody in it, and that doesn't look to change with this international trailer for the Tiff selected American Heist. All the cliches of a crime thriller are on display, and while Hayden Christensen doesn't seem all that bad for once, this just looks like it's trying to be Heat meets Fast Five (they even got Jordana Brewster on board), but not nearly as good as either. Here's the international trailer for Sarik Andreasyan's American Heist from Voltage Pictures: American Heist is directed by Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan and written by Raul Inglis (Transparency, Suddenly). Ewan McGregor tells Details the Trainspotting sequel "might happen" and doesn't speak to highly of Star Wars crazies saying: I don't have any experience with them. I've never been to one of the conventions. The people I meet are the f**kers who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their f**king picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi. They're not fans -- they're parasitical lowlifes and f**king wankers. I expected that after his release from prison, Wesley Snipes' slate of upcoming projects would be overflowing. But it's really not - at least, not yet. Other than "Expendables 3," which was released this summer, he really has nothing else coming. Maybe this will be his next? I just learned that Snipes is attached to star in a heist drama titled "Five Minutes to Live," which will be directed by Chuck Russell ("The Scorpion King," "Eraser," "The Mask") from a script penned by Raul Sanchez-Inglis ("Continuum") and Russell as well. In 1831, on the eve of Halloween, the villagers of Hollow Glen engage in an annual festival where they toss their diseased crops into a blazing fire, in hopes of blessing them with an abundant field for the next year. Though Johnny Cash is usually more likely to be found on a film's soundtrack than up onscreen, he did notch up a few credits before deciding that music was the world that better suited him. One of his better-known roles was as crazed criminal Johnny Cabot in 1961's Five Minutes To Live, and now someone else will be taking it on as Jan de Bont has been hired to remake the movie.De Bont hasn’t stepped behind the camera since 2003’s less-than-successful action sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, and while he’s had a few possible projects pop up here and there, we were starting to wonder whether he might be spending the rest of his career in director jail. But producers Joseph and Jack Nasser have now decided he’s the man to make the new version of Five Minutes, for which Transparency’s...

If you didn’t know that the legendary Johnny Cash dabbled in acting while he was still alive, it’s okay — I wasn’t aware, either. All blatant ignorance aside, Deadline reports that Dutch filmmaker Jan de Bont will direct a remake of Cash‘s 1961 film Five Minutes to Live.
Both the original and this remake are based on a story by Palmer Thompson; the new film, written by Raul Inglis (Transparency), centers on “two men as they execute a terrifying bank robbery. One guys holds the bank manager’s wife hostage and the other tells the manager she’ll be killed in five minutes unless he transfers money to an account of their choosing.” The Cash-starrer was also director Bill Karn‘s final film. No one has yet been found to replace the beloved musician, but casting will soon begin, under financiers Nasser Entertainment and Nasser Group North.

Jan De Bont had a moment in the sun in the mid '90s when he directed Speed and Twister, and it should never be forgotten that he was a kick-ass cinematographer. You might have seen his work in a minor film called Die Hard. But De Bont last directed Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, released in 2001. Though a few different projects have seemed like possible new films for the director in the years since, nothing has taken that final step of delivering a cake with a concealed metal file so that De Bont could break himself out of director jail. Now producers Joseph and Jack Nasser, who have a film named For a Good Time, Call... premiering at Sundance, are evidently ready to toss that big ring of cell keys to De Bont. They've signed him to direct Five Minutes to Live, which will be a remake...

One of the stranger turns in his entertainment career, Johnny Cash starred in the 1961 crime thriller Five Minutes to Live , playing a criminal named Johnny Cabot involved in a kidnapping and bank robbery. Deadline now reports that the project is planned for a remake with Jan de Bont directing. Re-released in 1966 under the title Door-to-Door Maniac , the film still featured Cash's opening credits song, also called "Five Minutes to Live." The plot saw his character teaming with another criminal, Fred (played by Vic Tayback) to pull a two-sided heist. Fred will hold up a bank while Johnny takes the wife of the bank's vice president hostage in her own home, ensuring that the robbery goes smootly. *full disclosure: American World Pictures provided a screener of this film for review.
Director: Steven R. Monroe.
Writers: Raul Inglis and Rafael Jordan.
Cast: Tahmoh Penikett, Michael Worth and Kacey Barnfield.
SyFy Channel should consider rebranding. They do a better job with the fantasy films they choose than the science fiction and terror products combined. Jabberwock is a simple tongue-in-cheek tale that plays with Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem, but spells the monster’s name without the y.
Either there were copyright issues that the film's producers could not wrangle, or they were simply trying to be original. To loosely base the monster on the design by artist John Tenniel gives this film a continuity that is much appreciated. Not every detail, like the creature’s long antennae, canonical beard and broad buckteeth are recreated, but any avid arts aficionado will recognize the silhouette.

Oh, to be a young girl in a made-for-television horror film!
Everyone is against you and no one could possibly ever understand your emotional turmoil, but you reserve the right to be upset when they die. Syfy’s Goblin is like an episode of "Party of Five," except more characters lose their intestines.
Goblin is a tricky beast. It’s both so-bad-it’s-good at moments and so overwhelmingly boring at other moments. Back in the year of 1831 in the small town of Hollowglen the townspeople burn a witch’s deformed baby. Why, you ask? Because it’s a cleansing fire that is supposed to rid the town of bad things. Seemingly, they’ve never meddled with this witch (who uses none of her powers to stop the loonies from burning her baby alive). Once the baby is crispy, she summons up a goblin to eat babies in the vicinity of Hollowglen on every Halloween.

This weekend’s Jabberwock gives the Syfy creature feature treatment to the insect-headed dragon of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Syfy has posted two clips from the medieval monster movie from I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.
Jabberwock stars Michael Worth (“Acapulco H.E.A.T.”, Sasquatch Mountain), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”, Trick ‘r Treat), and Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3). Rafael Jordan (Frost Giant, Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon) and Raul Inglis (Sand Serpents, Goblin) handled the scripting duties.
Here’s a rather spoiler-y synopsis for Jabberwock courtesy of the film’s distributors at American World Pictures that was clearly written by someone who confused the concept of synopsis with treatment. Whoever wrote it also doesn’t have much need for silly things like paragraphs. Believe me, when I start giving grammar lessons, you've got problems.

If you’ve seen one small town under supernatural siege, you’ve seen them all – or maybe not. As you watch, Raul Inglis’ Goblin screenplay tips the hat to every conceivable cliché. Inglis, who once wrote for 1994 TV-series ReBoot (props in this writer’s book), has made a career out of writing low budget scare flicks and thrillers, as well as directing several films and television episodes, including the upcoming Salesmen, which lists a “rumored” cast of Jeff Goldblum, Ben Kinglsey, Zack Braff, and William H. Macy, among others. There’s no such notable cast teaming with director Jeffery Scott Lando to deliver this film, a by-the-numbers schlocky horror affair that sees everyone phoning it in.
The most familiar face of cast is one Gil Bellows, who’s immortalized himself by playing Tommy in a little movie called Shawshank Redemption. It’s a small role, as you may recall, but...

Maple Pictures will release the Goblin on DVD July 26th. This feature originally showed on the SyFy network in 2010. Since then, Goblin has been called: "nothing fantastical" and "nothing frightening" (DVD Verdict). However, some fans might enjoy a story of a deformed child, curses and a whining step-child (DVD Verdict). You get your chance to throw a "deformed child into the inferno" (Maple) in just a couple weeks and the DVD artwork for Goblin is posted left.
The synopsis for Goblin is here:

But when one couple takes the ritual too far and throws their sickly, deformed child into the inferno, their murderous action results in something far more horrific than they could have imagined.

Director Steven R. Monroe stated, "Any time you get to shoot a period piece project like Jabberwocky with sets, wardrobe, swords and creatures, you are like a kid in the candy store. Also, when you get to assemble a great diverse cast to be in that atmosphere, it adds yet another level of excitement. Everyone just kind of falls into place and into character when they land in all these elements, and it's just really fun...

If Syfy keeps a list of monsters of myth, legend, and cryptozoology, after this weekend they can scratch "goblin" off the list. The new Syfy creature feature Goblin is set at Halloween time, so what better time for Syfy to premiere it than in the middle of July; this Saturday night at 9/8 Central.
A murderous, baby-stealing goblin comes to life on Halloween, setting his sights on an unsuspecting family. The teenage daughter must stop the goblin from stealing her baby brother before he becomes part of a goblinesque smorgasboard!
Goblin stars Gil Bellows of "Ally McBeal" and Donnelly Rhodes and Camille Sullivan, both of "Battlestar Galactica". Jeffery Scott Lando (Decoys 2: The Second Seduction, House of Bones, Thirst) directs from a script by Raul Inglis (Syfy's Sand Serpents and Cerberus).

- It has only occurred to me, fairly late in the game, that the first-time director of The Company Men and featured in the recent reports (Maria Bello and Craig T. Nelson taking supporting roles and recent set pics spotted from the slashfilm.com crew) is the same John Wells who was an executive producer on so many Killer Film projects. Currently filming in Boston, Wells has managed to assemble a strong cast of feature film vets: Ben Affleck toplines and is backed by Kevin Costner, Chris Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones. Not to be confused with the other project going by the same name (directed by Raul Inglis and starring Steve Buscemi), this is a tale of the current economic times with Affleck playing a corporate hotshot whose Porsche and six-figure salary vanish after he gets laid off. Costner plays his brother-in-law, a salt-of-the-earth drywall installer who gives him a construction job.
