Hope everyone in the U.S. had a nice holiday weekend! I’m thankful I actually got this week’s edition done, even though I guess most folks were busy as I only have a few links:
This week’s Must Read is an oldie, but a goodie. And by “oldie” I don’t mean two weeks ago in Internet time! This is an article from 1948 by filmmaker Lewis Jacobs that is considered the first substantial history of American avant-garde filmmaking called “Experimental Cinema in America.” It was published in the Hollywood Quarterly and is broken down into a couple chapters, exploring the typically little written about period of 1921-41, then gets into the post-war boom of Deren, Anger, etc., as well as a brief bit on Amos Vogel’s groundbreaking Cinema 16. Plus, lots of great pictures! Here’s some Dirty Pictures for you to look at. Plus, Cockfighter and...

On The Voice this week, Cee Lo Green pitted two fan favorites against one another in the battle rounds. Tje Austin went head-to-head with Nakia in a duet of Ne-Yo's "Closer." Many feel it was not the best strategy for the coach, thinking he should have matched both against weaker players to keep the stronger singers around for the live performances. But he did not take that route, so in the end Tje was sent home leaving Nakia to sing another day. In a recent conference call interview Tje talked about his battle round strategy, the most important lesson he learned and who he thinks will win.
On Holding Back During Rehearsals
"We come into the game, you want to give your best performance possible. I already knew that Nakia was a strong singer and I’m kind of a mellow singer, so it’s like pairing Sade up against Janis Joplin.

It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone. As usual, some of the ones that look the best to me are reserved for mid-season. And, NBC has apparently given up on Saturday altogether.
It's a whole lot of info, so let's just jump in.
NBC has introduced its 2011-12 primetime schedule, showcasing six new dramas and six new comedies from a roster of renowned hit-makers that includes Steven Spielberg, Lorne Michaels, Brian Grazer, Tom Werner, John Grisham and Peter Berg, among many others.
The season’s new dramas are “Smash,...
