The actual plot of Michael Bay's 2009 sci-fi actioner "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is rather oblique. In 17,000 Bce, Transformers used specialized, high-tech, sun-killing solar collectors to gather energy from the galaxy's stars. Their ethical code forbid them from snuffing out stars in solar systems that supported life, but one Transformer defied said ethic to deplete Earth's sun. That Transformer was excommunicated and became the first Decepticon. Fast forward to 2009, and the modern-day Decepticons are intent on activating the ancient solar collector once again. It's hidden inside one of the Pyramids of Giza.
"Revenge of the Fallen" was filmed in several locations in the United States, including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and remote places in New Mexico, and Arizona. The Pyramid sequences were indeed filmed in Cairo, and the footage of ancient Egyptian cities was filmed in Petra, Jordan. Many filmgoers might recognize Petra from the climax of the 1989 film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,...

Ilt Jones, location manager for all three of the Transformers movies, has just wrapped up a tour of Thailand on behalf of Marvel, where he explored Bangkok as a potential shooting location for Transformers 4, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. It was all part of a new promotional exercise, titled the “Inbound Roadshow Familiarization Tour” hosted by the Thailand Film Office, a government body tasked with boosting foreign shooting in the tourism and lens-friendly Southeast Asian nation. Movie bosses behind the latest Batman film The Dark Knight Rises have donated thousands of dollars to replant trees in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after the original greenery was chopped down to make way for the shoot.
The latest installment of the Caped Crusader franchise, starring Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway, has taken over huge areas of the city for high-octane action sequences and car chases.
The tree-lined streets didn't fit in with director Christopher Nolan's wintery vision for the film, and studio bosses chopped down the oaks, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - but they're planning to replant once the shoot is over.
Location manager Ilt Jones tells the newspaper, "We're committed to putting back everything as we found it in Pittsburgh, if not better. We hope to remove all traces of fake snow, and we're replacing far more trees than we removed, in conjunction with the appropriate city agencies."
Producers have also handed over $20,000 (£12,100) to non-profit group Tree Pittsburgh to ensure replacements are planted.

The location manager for Fox's Live Free or Die Hard and the locations team behind DreamWorks' Transformers took the top prizes at the 13th annual California On Location Awards.
CBS' CSI: NY swept the television side, with the show getting the prizes for location team of the year (episodic) and location professional of the year at the awards ceremony Sunday night in City of Industry, Calif.
Curtis Collins, the location manager on Die Hard, found himself in the line of fire of the cargo and airline industries when the big-budget production forced closures of Southern California's Imperial Highway and the 105 Freeway and affected LAX. Collins, who received the location professional of the year award (features) was praised for showing that the city "can make movies, run trucks and fly planes" at the same time.
The Transformers location unit was awarded the location team of the year. The team comprised 26 location professionals, underscoring the breadth of the undertaking.
"I wonder if this is the first time in an awards show that there are more people onstage than in the audience," snickered supervising locations manager Ilt Jones, looking at the crowd standing behind him onstage.
