Ufc
The absolute worst happened Friday evening: the main event of Ufc 177, the only fight worth watching on the entire main card save perhaps a female bantamweight fight between feuding fighters, has been lost.
Former champion Renan Barao, who was getting an immediate rematch against T.J. Dillashaw, fell ill during the weight cutting process leading into the bout, a bantamweight (135lbs) tilt, and had to be taken to hospital.
With no suitable fight on the card able to replace the main event (the co-main event, Tony Ferguson vs. Danny Castillo, has been derided as a fight that could be good, but that has little relevancy and no place at the top of a card), Ufc brass were forced to replace Barao with former Bellator featherweight champ Joe Soto, who was to make his Ufc debut during the preliminary portion of Saturday’s event.

Olympic Gold medalist and Ufc fighter Henry Cejudo dropped a bomb today saying that had he not signed with the Ufc, he’d likely have ended up in the WWE.
According to Cejudo in an interview with Mma Junkie, WWE showed major interest in him. “It was something that was actually in the works. One of their talent scouts saw me, met me and wanted to bring me in for an audition or whatnot. … They had reached out to me and wanted to get a feel of it,” Cejudo said.
Cejudo didn’t rule out a potential switch to pro wrestling however, saying “I’ve always watched WWE ever since I was a little kid. But mixed martial arts right now is my No. 1 priority. Maybe WWE in the future, but as of now I’m sticking straight to the Ufc and my fighting career.

Henderson, Hallmann, Jorgensen and Martinez scored big at Saturday’s Ufc Fight Night 42.
Ufc Executive Dave Sholler announced an attendance of 8,775 for Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov at the post-fight press conference this past Saturday at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This brought the gate to $697,901.
As for fighter bonuses, the company awarded a Performance of the Night bonus to former champ and card headliner Benson Henderson, who submitted Rustam Khabilov after dropping him with strikes early in the fourth round. The rear naked choke was Henderson’s first finish since 2010, and should alleviate some of the criticism over his tendency to fight to decisions.
Piotr Hallmann earned the other Performance of the Night bonus for submitting Yves Edwards, also via rear naked choke.

Three of four fights went the distance on Saturday night’s preliminary portion of Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a pair of Ufc stars picked up much needed wins.
Early in the evening, Wec/Ufc vet Scott Jorgensen picked up a crucial win in an exciting flyweight battle, and Sergio Pettis, younger brother of Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, scored his first victory in the Octagon.
The Ufc appears to be banking on the younger Pettis’ star power potential, hoping that his career and style mimic that of his older brother, as they tabbed him to headline the preliminary card against Yaotzin Meza in a bantamweight tilt. Pettis was coming off a loss in his Ufc debut, a Fight of the Night bout which saw him control most of the action prior to getting caught in a choke.

We’re back with the complete preview of Ufc on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz. This time on the Getting Lucky mixed martial arts podcast, I am joined by English Thom Burton of lovely Southampton as my guest co-host. I figured it was time I brought a Brit into the fold. Though all bets are off when we cover the Tuf: Smashes Finale next week.

On Thursday night (December 16), an era ended and a whole new one began. A few months ago, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that World Extreme Cagefighting (an organization owned by Zuffa, the same company that runs Ufc) would be folded into the Ufc. Last night was the organization's final show, and they went out in memorable style, including big victories by Anthony Pettis and Dominick Cruz.
Wec was always unique group because it focused on lighter fighters (by the end, the only weight divisions were bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight), which often lead to fights that were much faster and more intense. Such was the case on Thursday night when Wec bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defeated intense challenger Scott Jorgensen in a one-sided five round decision. Cruz's stand-up style is unorthodox, but his footwork and cardio are second-to-none. He danced around Jorgensen, peppering him with punches and taking him down at...

Aldo vs. Faber had everything an Mma fan could ask for, from quick finishes to shocking upsets to dominant title defenses to controversial decisions and one absolute War that many are already calling the "Fight of the Year."
In the main event Jose Aldo proved he's worth the $44.95 as he absolutely Rick Roll'd the "California Kid" Urijah Faber.
Aldo used his leg kicks as a battle axe cleaving at Urijah's thigh for five rounds. Faber proved powerless to stop the twenty-five minute amputation on his left leg as the only defense he could muster was to constantly switch stances. It was to no avail as Aldo's kicks completely neutralized Urijah's mobility, power and technique, turning the former champion into a zero-dimensional statue rather than the dynamic fighter Mma fans have come to expect.
In the third round, Urijah began to pirouette (that means twirl for those not familiar with ballet...
