British comic actor with East End Jewish roots. At a height of just 4 foot 11 inches, he was considered too small for military service in World War II. Allegedly, the examining medical officer informed him that "When we declare war on pygmies - we'll send for you." Kaye became a popular performer in variety and revue shows, eventually joining the BBC. From 1954 to 1968, he was the resident late night comedian at the Embassy Club in London, also making occasional appearances on screen.
