Scott Aukerman and Reilly Brown took over this month's issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool while regular creative team Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness had a break, and they didn't hesitate to get a little meta! As you can see below (via Bleeding Cool), they didn't hold back when it came to taking a hard to miss shot at the divisive Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, poking fun at the title, the plot, and of course, that whole Martha thing. It is pretty funny to be fair, but also unecessary and a little petty on Marvel's part. Still, with huge hits like Captain America: Civil War, they can afford to be cocky! To be fair though, neither Spider-Man nor the X-Men emerge unscathed as the comic pokes fun both at the fact that the wall-crawler has been rebooted multiple times and the divide between the Marvel Cinematic and X-Men Universes. Still,...

With spoilers, we look at the questions raised and left behind by the new Deadpool movie...
In contrast to Marvel Studios’ tightly-wound movies, Fox’s X-Men franchise likes to play fast and loose with its material. What that means is that if you’ve just seen Deadpool, you might have a few questions about it. And we’ve tried to guess what they might be so that we can answer them in advance.
Fair warning, though: This is very spoilery. For both the comics and the movie. Only scroll past the image if you’re willing to have plot points explained to you rather than discover them yourself.
1. How does this movie connect to the continuity of his previous appearance?
The short version to this question is that it doesn’t. In fact, you could easily argue that Deadpool is taking place on its own island of continuity.

We've had our best look yet at Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the first trailer for the movie. Here's what we learned...
After what seems like years of teasing the project, we’ve finally seen the first long-awaited trailer for Fox’s latest Marvel-based movie, Deadpool. Based on the fan-favourite character and starring the fan-favourite actor, Ryan Reynolds, the Deadpool movie looks like it might even be Fox’s most accurate translation of a character from page to screen yet. But is that going to make it a good film? And what can we learn about it from this trailer?
Health Insurance
The trailer opens with Wade Wilson’s love interest, Vanessa (played by Moreno Baccarin) declaring that “We can fight this”. If you’re a fan of the character, you’ll know even before they explain that this is reference to part of Deadpool’s origin that X-Men Origins: Wolverine...

Big week for Bat-talk! Last week, I published a couple Geekly columns focusing on the Dark Knight Detective. First, I drew up my list of the hundred greatest Batman comics, movies, TV episodes, etc. Then I considered whether it was possible to have entirely too much Batman at one time. And would you believe it, everyone has an opinion about Batman–and a ton of great recommendations! Read on for the highlights. Darren Franich was dead-on right in his piece 'Dark Knight Fatigue Rises,' but from just one perspective. In July of 2013, Cartoon Network debuted DC Animation's new CG series "Beware the Batman.

Next year’s X-Men ultra-sequel has officially cashed in on the Killing Kennedy craze. Just one week after bookshelves and TV schedules were flooded with memorials for the 35th president of the United States, Days of Future Past has just released a new video offering a new theory: Maybe Magneto did. The video proffers the idea that Magneto was present on the grassy knoll on November 22, and that he used his powers to “bend” the bullet. This ridiculous idea still makes more sense than anything in Oliver Stone’s JFK, so watch the video below:
Now, here’s where things get fun.

When Mark Waid joined the creative team on Jla, he told a pretty terrific story about Batman’s secret protocols for neutralizing the Justice League of America falling into Ra’s al Ghul’s hands. In the “Tower of Babel” story, he used it to take out the League in order to execute a plan for world domination. It made for a fine story arc that allowed Batman to leave the team for time and resonated with fans given the weighty thematic material. It has endured in memory and prompted Warner Premiere to approve Jla: Doom, an adaptation as a part of their ongoing series of direct-to-dvd animated features
The resulting production, on sale tomorrow, is bittersweet because it marks the final script from the talented Dwayne MacDuffie. And it needed series editing which clearly was not done, making it a deeply flawed adaptation of the source material. The dramatic core is here,...

Warner Home Video continues to work on its next round of 'DC Universe' animated movies including "Justice League: Doom", adapting DC Comics' "Tower of Babel", "Superman vs. the Elite" and "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns".
"Tower of Babel", written by Mark Waid, deals with Batman's perceived betrayal of the superhuman community, by keeping records of the weaknesses of his allies in the 'Justice League', including detailed plans of how they could be eliminated in a fight.
These files are subsequently stolen by the villain 'Ra's al Ghul', who uses them to defeat the Justice League in a coordinated attack.
'Martian Manhunter' bursts into flame upon exposure to air, 'Aquaman' is rendered hydrophobic by an altered form of the 'fear' toxin used by 'Scarecrow' and 'Plastic Man' is frozen solid, then shattered by a hammer by one of Ra's al Ghul's henchmen.

Cbr (www.comicbookresources.com) provided this Update on the passing of multi-talented comic book and media writer Dwayne McDuffie yesterday afternoon:
1:25 Pm Pst: Cbr has learned that McDuffie died from complications due to a surgical procedure performed Monday evening.
I didn’t find out about this until close to midnight last night and yelled out in sheer horror. It really threw me for a loop. Like S&A commenter Skyvolt said in the previous McDuffie post, he didn’t cry about lack of Black characters, he did something about it. Weird, I was just watching All-Star Superman yesterday and was looking forward to the new Static monthly book (though not written by him) to come out in a few months. Man, I’m still shocked, no dumb pun intended. Only Jam Master J’s passing threw me for more of a wallop.

A moderate week in terms of number of books shipped, mostly from the big two publishers, but definitely not moderate in terms of quality. With all the hype leading up to Blackest Night, it is no surprise it would be the first book I read this week, even beating out the much anticipated conclusion of the Spider-Man “American Son” storyline. As always, we can’t review every book each week here at The Pull List, but if you have any thoughts about other comics or think we missed a good one, let us know.
Pull of the Week:
Blackest Night #1 – DC – $3.99
Score: 9.0
Big summer event. Months of hype. Tales that the writer has been planting seeds for the past five years for the main character. Sounds like a perfect set up for something to fall flat on its face. Thankfully this superstar creative team was able to avoid the trap...
