This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 3 — "Time to Fly"Things are kicking into high gear in part 3 of "Ahsoka." Directed again by Steph Green and written by Dave Filoni, the episode shows the inertia faced by the New Republic when it comes to taking any military action beyond the end of the war. Few seem to believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) could be a threat to the New Republic, and others still think that the specter of Thrawn is just Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth-Winstead) trying to nab all the resources she can get to go on a selfish mission to look for her lost friend, Ezra Bridger (Emen Esfandi). While Hera spends her time arguing with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), the Chancellor of the Republic, another journey is underway. Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), and Huyang (David Tennant) travel to Seatos in...

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
The first two episodes of Ahsoka had no shortage of easter eggs and references to other corners of the Star Wars galaxy. From nods to The Clone Wars and Knights of the Old Republic to bringing back several characters from Rebels as well as introducing concepts that go all the way back to the Legends continuity, the latest Disney+ series is an absolute feast for fans who love deep cut lore.
While showrunner Dave Filoni absolutely wears his Star Wars nerdery on his sleeve throughout these first two episodes — and Thrawn’s not even shown up yet!!! — one of the show’s very best easter eggs is not as immediately apparent unless you know where to look. And can read the runes that we initially mistook as Aurebesh, the standard in-universe alphabet of Star Wars, but that actually make up a new writing system unique to Ahsoka.

As the upcoming "Ahsoka" live-action series hovers on the horizon, the recent Star Wars Celebration announcement of Lars Mikkelsen taking up the blue make-up to reprise his legendary animated voice role in the full-bodied flesh sent waves of excitement through Star Wars fans. A main baddie for the final half of the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series created by Dave Filoni (showrunning again for "Ahsoka"), the ice-blue Chiss Admiral proved to be a formidable and terrifying threat to the Ghost crew. Mitth'raw'nuruodo's (Thrawn's Chiss name) epic (re)entrance into the public consciousness provided fond memories for Celebration attendees back in 2016, especially for the generation who grew up with the Legends novels that started with Timothy Zahn's 1991 "Heir to the Empire." That book kicked off an enduring Legends reign for Thrawn as an intelligent Imperial tactician who had no nonsense for Imperial stupidity.

“Ahsoka” — the live-action “Star Wars” series starring Rosario Dawson in the title role of Ahsoka Tano — is the next live-action series coming to Disney+.
It’s based on a character writer and executive producer Dave Filoni created 15 years ago. Judging by the thunderous applause at the recent Star Wars Celebration, Ahsoka is a fan-favorite who will only grow in popularity with this upcoming show. Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy also serve as executive producers.
Who is Ahsoka?
Ahsoka is a character created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni for the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the subsequent animated series of the same name that ran from 2008-14 and for one final season in 2020. Lucas had wanted Anakin Skywalker to have a padawan of his own, thus Ahsoka was created. She was trained as a Jedi, but she broke away from the Order. And we all know what happened to Skywalker.

At the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London, Lucasfilm made a major series of announcements on the future of “Star Wars.” Three new features are on the way, recruiting directors Dave Filoni and James Mangold, and four series, including “Ahsoka.” Produced by Jon Favreau and writer Filoni, the series will follow Anakin Skywalker’s beloved Togruta padawan, Ahsoka Tano. The highly anticipated event is set to premiere in August on Disney+.
“Star Wars” viewers ‘were first introduced to Ahsoka in 2008, in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated film. The film was first commissioned as an introductory arc to the TV series of the same name, which follow Ahsoka as she learned from her mentor, Anakin Skywalker, who will become Darth Vader.
Quickly Ahsoka became a “Star Wars” favorite. The character returned six years later in the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series, now a powerful Jedi warrior.

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau held court over the panel for "Ahsoka" at this year's Star Wars Celebration bash. They showed more footage revealing Larrs Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, introduced the world to the directors of the episodes, and brought out the cast, including Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera). They even showed an extended cut of the trailer that took us back to the locations of "Star Wars Rebels" and to points beyond we could have never guessed. But one of the most exciting announcements, which could have been overshadowed by everything else in the overstuffed panel, was Filoni's announcement of who will be composing the score for the "Ahsoka" show.

Captain Rex, Echo, and their crew of renegade clones have a different idea and liberate them by force. He and his accomplice Migs Mayfield (Bill Burr), a former stormtrooper, hijack a transport, and Din ends up getting into some fisticuffs with some humanoid Shydopps pirates atop the transports. The Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) and Omega (Michelle Ang) are stranded on a distant mining planet, and their ship has been stolen by a mysterious thief. Spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2 Episode 9 - "The Crossing" follow.
"The Crossing" is the latest episode of "The Bad Batch" and it sees Omega and the team of Clone super commandos — minus Echo — heading to a distant mining planet where Cid has taken control of a mine. There, it's their task to mine a precious substance called Ipsium and get back. Unfortunately, in the process, their ship is stolen by a masked thief and they're stranded on the planet. Things get worse when they are pursued by a desert lightning storm and take shelter in a mine where they are promptly trapped.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger with the Bad Batch and Omega still left on the deserted desert planet, hoping Cid will come rescue them before their rations run out.

This review contains spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2, Episode 5 -- "Entombed."
A brand new episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" means a brand new adventure for Clone Force 99 (Dee Bradley Baker). This time, they are between missions and looking to repair their ship. While hunting for parts in the junkyard with Wrecker, Omega (Michelle Ang) finds a star compass. When she takes it back to Cid's, the archeologist, treasure hunter, and pirate Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes) is there and takes an interest.
Convinced the compass is a rare find and will lead to valuable treasure, she's able to persuade the Bad Batch to accompany her to a distant, uncharted planet in the Kaldar Trinary System to seek the treasure. From there, they follow clues that take them to an ancient relic of a civilization that predates the Republic and the Jedi, but it holds a terrible secret they don't fully understand.

This post contains spoilers for the "Andor" season 1 finale.
George Lucas has famously said in the past that sound is 50 percent of the moviegoing experience. When you have John Williams as a composer, that number might even need to go up. Arguably, the main title theme in "Star Wars" is the most impactful piece of music in cinema history, and expressing that opinion really doesn't feel too hyperbolic. Throughout the entire canon of "Star Wars," the symphonic themes and orchestral bursts are sonic cues that let the audience know when to feel something, when to react, and when to cheer.
The achievements of composer and conductor John Williams cannot be overstated, but there are also other composers that have added to the songbook of "Star Wars," including Michael Giacchino (who only had four weeks to score "Rogue One") and the underrated contributions of Kevin Kiner on "Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels.

Full of pathos and lore, "Tales of the Jedi" returns us to the CGI style of "The Clone Wars" animated series and resituates us in the decline of the Republic era. Guiding fans through a cycle of births, deaths, and rebirths, Dave Filoni's six-episode anthology miniseries differ in spirit from the often-breakneck movement of "The Clone Wars," with each episode running shorter in average length but brimming with a distinctive emotional breadth and quieter introspection.
For many fans, these episodes fill the corners of curiosity for the history of established characters: the infanthood of Ahsoka Tano, Count Dooku's fall from the light, Qui-Gon Jinn's apprenticeship, and the devotion of the ever-elusive Yaddle to her friend Dooku. Though revealing their youthful days and their fates brings much heartache and sorrow — and Kevin Kiner's pensive scoring — these chapters are necessary to understand how these characters grew up (or regressed). Plot: Each episode of Tales of the Jedi tells a short story featuring Jedi from the Star Wars prequel trilogy era. The six episodes are split into two “paths”: the first following Ahsoka Tano across various points in her life, and the other depicting a young Count Dooku before his fall to the dark side of the Force.

There will be spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi"
"Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" is a six episode mini-series featuring stories that take place before, during, and after the prequel era, offering a window into the Jedi Order through the lens of two pivotal characters who both lost their faith in the Jedi: Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano. With the exception of the first episode, this six episode arc follows a chronological order, starting long before the prequel movies, winding through the events of each of them from different points of view, and culminating in Ahsoka Tano remembering why it's important for her to fight the oppression and tyranny of the Empire.
The Animation Is Stellar
The team George Lucas and Dave Filoni put together to form the nucleus of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" has grown and evolved over the years, though many of the players remain the same.

For a long time, it was impossible to separate John Williams' virtuoso scores from the "Star Wars" franchise. Over the last 15 years, however, things have slowly begun to change on that front.
It began with Kevin Kiner's first-rate work on the animated TV series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels," both of which honor Williams' classical orchestral style while bringing their own flavor to the table. Then came Ludwig Göransson, whose brilliant music for "The Mandalorian" is heavier on the synths and embraces a wider, more eclectic range of instruments than Williams' "Star Wars" music typically has (with exceptions,...

"Star Wars" fans are very familiar with Emmy nominated composer Kevin Kiner's work. He scored all seven season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," as well as recently adding "The Bad Batch" to his repertoire. Our own Jack Giroux chatted with Kiner about his score for the new HBO series "Peacemaker," and spoke to him about working with George Lucas, who apparently wanted to get some hip-hop into "The Clone Wars."
Kiner told Giroux that Lucas "hates doing something that's been done before." That led Lucas to try to shake things up in the music department. Kiner said:

Kevin Kiner brings rock to "Peacemaker." Filmmaker James Gunn and his music supervisors, Ian Broucek and Evyen Klean, do that job as well with their entertaining needledrops, but it's composers Kevin Kiner and Clint Mansell who bring a little rock 'n' roll to the score. For "The Suicide Squad" spin-off series, the duo wanted to combine rock with a staple of comic book adaptations -- an orchestra. In recent years, for Kiner, that's become a more traditional approach to scoring.
"Film scores in general are kind of going in that direction, where the orchestra is an element, but there's also a modern element, like either...

. It has a sprawling cast spread across two timelines that intersect in a way that sets the show apart, but which ABC nonetheless has barred coverage from mentioning before the show’s Monday premiere. Over the course of the first two episodes screened for critics, “Promised Land” explores the promise and poison of the American dream — a typical lens through which to view wealthy dynasties, but one that has more pointed resonance on this show, which specifically centers Mexican and Mexican-American characters. With beautiful shots of southern California deserts and vineyards, heightened acting, and a sweeping score by Gustavo Santaolalla and Kevin Kiner, “Promised Land” immediately distinguishes itself.
The pilot introduces two storylines: one about Mexican teens (played by Katya Martín and Andres Velez) risking everything to cross the border into the United States to work at a near-mythical vineyard, and another about the rich and powerful people who own it.

Just to be certain, there are a few other composers that will be helping out over the course that Star Wars will be continuing along in the coming years, but as of now, it does sound as though Kevin Kiner, who has been providing his expertise over the years, will be the heir apparent to John Williams, who has been in charge of scoring the music for the 9 core Star Wars movies. That is if Lucasfilm is in keeping with tradition and recognizing the fact that Kiner has been around and done far more than many other composers, which

If you got chills while watching “Shattered,” the third part of The Clone Wars finale, there’s a good chance that the episode’s music had something to do with that. Series composer Kevin Kiner’s bold score for this installment is unorthodox as hell but classic at the same time. But, beyond its dichotomy, it proves something about Star Wars in general. Subverting our expectations for what the music of Star Wars should be is, perhaps, the fastest way to make new Star Wars stories feel fresh. We all love John Williams’ scores, but at a certain point, it’s nice to hear something new.
Some might say Star Wars would be nothing without its famous music, but it’s worth thinking about which aspects of the saga would be more well-liked had the music been more memorable and daring. For my money, Solo isn’t half as bad...

Star Wars fans are tough to please, and no matter what Disney does, it doesn’t seem like it’s possible to satisfy them all. But according to Clone Wars composer Kevin Kiner, the House of Mouse has yet to make a bad call when it comes to the films and television programs set in a galaxy far, far away.
Ever since the first trilogy changed the way audiences looked at movies, the franchise has had a difficult time having the same game-changing results. The prequels didn’t go over very well and the new films under Disney haven’t had much better luck. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is considered by many to be a huge swing and a miss and The Rise of Skywalker had some people questioning if they ever really were fans at all. The 2018 Emmy nominees for music composition for a series, original dramatic score, could hardly be more diverse: the grim cliffhanger episode of a popular cable serial; a small-combo score for a Marvel Comics heroine; the series finale of a fantasy based on Disney characters; an internationally flavored episode of a freshman broadcast series; an animated “Star Wars” spinoff; and Eastern colors for a cable series that imagines a world of sword-wielding warriors. What they all have in common, though, is how they enhanced complicated tales with emotional melodies.

The 2018 Emmy for Best Music Composition for a Series could realistically go to any of the six shows nominated. This year’s category, equivalent to Best Original Score at the Oscars, includes the following nominees: “Game of Thrones” (HBO), “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” (Netflix), “Once Upon a Time” (ABC), “Seal Team” (CBS), “Star Wars Rebels” (Disney Xd) and “Westworld” (HBO).
Ramin Djawadi has the honor of being one of few composers in Emmy history to earn two nominations in this category in the same year, for “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.” Other nominees this year include past Emmy champs like Sean Callery, Mark Isham and W.G. Snuffy Walden.

If you've been eager to rewatch the final season of Star Wars Rebels in high quality, you'll get your chance at the end of the month when it arrives on blu-ray with a slew of bonus features. Come inside to learn more!
The shorter, 15-episode, final season of Star Wars Rebels was arguably the series' best. With a focus on more specific story arcs, the show brought some emotional material, while setting up some very interesting story possibilities. While I've enjoyed just about all of Rebels, this season felt like the most "must see" of them all.

It must seem particularly cruel to fans of Star Wars Rebels that the show ended just as the movies finally started paying attention to it. I’m talking, of course, about the surprise reappearance of Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
If you would have just watched the films you’d have last seen him bisected and falling down an enormous hole on Naboo, apparently deader than dead can be. If you’d have been watching Rebels (and The Clone Wars) though, you’d have already known that he survived the encounter and is now sporting a shiny robot lower half.
The point is, Star Wars Rebels was a surprisingly decent slice of the universe that’s gone on to impact it in more ways than its critics assumed it would. And now, fans can complete their set at home, as the fourth and final season is coming to Blu-ray on July 31st.

Since the announcement four years ago that Disney would buy Lucasfilm and begin making new Star Wars movies, this moment has been inevitable: excepting Kevin Kiner's fine, fun work on the briefly-theatrically-released Clone Wars pilot, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first Star Wars feature film with music composed by someone other than John Williams. To film music fans in general, and John Williams fans in particular, the effect would have been unsettling regardless of the quality of the work. We got something of a preview of this sensation last fall with the release of Bridge of Spies, the first Steven Spielberg film since The Colour Purple not to feature a Williams score (Williams was ill at the time). If you didn’t watch the first two episodes of Star Wars Rebels, there’s still time to correct your error. As the Berenstein Bears taught me when Brother didn’t do his homework and then tried to cut school, “It’s never too late to correct a mistake!” (That almost rhymes.) You should really be watching for a few reasons. First, it’s a good show on its own merits. It’s a fun action adventure series with interesting characters, set in a galactic time period we haven’t seen on screen before. Secondly, the show is going to set up a few things for Star Wars: Episode VII and also shares aesthetics with the new sequels. Third, the show is bringing back some of our favorite Star Wars things. Star Wars Rebels composer Kevin Kiner gives an interview on the influence that composer John Williams has had on him and the score of the animated TV Series. Kiner talks about his huge guitar collection and how having been in a rock band allows him to add something different to the score of Rebels. Rebels acts as a bridge between the time periods of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and it's really interesting to hear some of those familiar melodies come back, in some part, into the show.
