Exclusive: Conservative media outlet The Daily Wire has commissioned its first animated scripted series, Mr Birchum, created by comedian and radio host Adam Carolla.
The series follows Carolla’s junior high woodshop teacher popularized on Kroq radio and brought to life in puppet form on Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers.
In this animated update, according to producers, “Mr. Birchum attempts to navigate a world he doesn’t understand or approve of. He’s befuddled by his gaming streamer son, Eddie (Dunnigan), annoyed at his selfie-taking, snowflake students and is constantly at war with the school district’s appointed “J.E.D.I.” Mr. Karponzi (Fischer).”
The synopsis continues: “But his best buddy, auto-shop teacher Don Gage (Bodden), his wife Wendi (Kelly), and step-daughter Jeanie (Cooper) have his back, along with some fantasy mentors – the ghost of his gym teacher, Coach Murphy (Mohr) and childhood...

“Tech giants like @YouTube, @Facebook, @TikTok_US, and—until @ElonMusk wrote a check—@Twitter, flagging, banning, throttling, shadow banning, and demonetizing us is a constant occurrence,” tweeted Daily Wire co-ceo Jeremy Boreing in a thread last month. The thread revealed what Boreing called a Big Tech “cancel blitz” against the company, including YouTube’s demonetization of Matt Walsh’s channel after the firebrand repeatedly stated that men are men and women are women when referring to people claiming otherwise. The company responded by putting “The Matt Walsh Show” on Twitter. In its first 28 days on Elon Musk’s platform, the show had 7.4M video views, 24M impressions, and its new account grew by 140,000 followers.

Netflix’s smash hit The Witcher series may not have received unanimous praise (what does?) from audiences and critics, but there’s no denying the show’s popularity.
Since its release on the streaming service last month, in fact, fans of fantasy fiction have caught the Witcher fever, a serious ailment that causes viewers to seek out as much content as possible starring none other than Geralt of Rivia himself. From CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed The Witcher 3 to Andrzej Sapkowski’s original books, fans simply can’t get enough of the titular monster hunter and his equally magnetic friends.
One reviewer, however, has taken umbrage with the show’s portrayal of women or, more specifically, how it ‘inaccurately’ depicts them brandishing swords and heading into medieval battle. In a recent episode of his podcast, Daily Wire’s Andrew Klavan stated that “zero women can fight with a sword,” in reference to The Witcher.

Actor James Woods was locked out of his Twitter account on Sunday for a tweet from July that the site said was in violation of its rules.
According to the Associated Press, Woods was suspended for a July tweet of a satirical meme that encouraged men not to vote in this November’s midterm elections.
The meme came from a hoax campaign with hashtags like #LetWomenDecide and #NoMenMidterms, with Woods admitting in his tweet that the campaign was “not likely” to be authentic. “Pretty scary that there is a distinct possibility this could be real,” he added.
Woods, who has 1.7 million followers for his brand of Hollywood conservatism, told the AP that he received an email from Twitter warning him that the meme “has the potential to be misleading in a way that could impact an election.”

President Donald Trump patted himself on the back as he participated in the annual White House turkey pardon on Tuesday. “I feel so good doing this,” he said as he petted and pardoned the lucky bird, Drumstick.
But over on Twitter, some joked that Trump’s mercy on the turkey might be short-lived if Drumstick isn’t adequately thankful.
In a nod to Trump’s recent complaint that he didn’t get enough appreciation for helping three UCLA basketball players return to the U.S. following shoplifting charges in China, one Twitter user quipped: “After @realDonaldTrump pardons National Thanksgiving Turkey at White House,...

For the first time ever, Donald Cammell’s obscure 1987 serial killer thriller White of the Eye is available on DVD and Blu-ray in the United States (the UK arm of Arrow Video brandished its own striking package of the title in early 2014). Director of only four features, including his iconic 1970 debut Performance (co-directed by Nicolas Roeg), Cammell’s quartet of features were all labors of love, the filmmaker undergoing significant set backs on each project up until his death following 1995’s Wild Side.
With seven to ten years in-between each outing, this feature marked the end of a decade long hiatus following 1977’s adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel Demon Seed starring Julie Christie. Adapting from an obscure novel by brothers Laurence and Andrew Klavan (a notable writer of mystery thrillers) writing under the pseudonym Margaret Tracy, Cammell’s wife and actress China Kong co-wrote the screenplay. Andrew Klavan, who wrote the novel on which Clint Eastwood’s True Crime was based, will write the screenplay for Gosnell, a TV movie about Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia “house of horrors” abortion doctor who was found guilty of murder in 2013. The movie was funded through an extremely successful Indiegogo campaign which raised more than its initial $2.1 million goal.
In the campaign, filmmakers Phelim McAleer, Ann McElhinney, and Magdalena Segieda argued that “Indiegogo allows us to bypass the Hollywood studios and the usual funding sources for movies. Hollywood never would fund a movie such as this.” The campaign received support...

True Crime novelist, screenwriter, and conservative commentator Andrew Klavan (One Missed Call, A Shock To The System, Haunting Melissa) has been hired to script the crowdfunded TV film project Gosnell, about Philadelphia abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell. The infamous doctor was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for mercilessly killing babies of botched abortions who were born alive by driving a scissors into their necks and snipping their spinal cords. His practices are believed to have gone on for as many as forty years and Gosnell is currently serving a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
Klavan boards the project after the completion of an enormously successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, which raised $2,241,043 from 26,500 donors with the help of celeb backers like Kevin Sorbo. It became the most-funded campaign on the platform within its first three weeks. Husband and wife team Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney are producing Gosnell along with Magdalena Segieda.

Mulholland Dr. and The Ring producer Neal Edelstein has created an Apple-only app that's really a horror movie. "I wanted to tell a ghost story in a different way because of the way technology was moving," he told The Wrap. "It wasn’t really until I saw [the iPad] that I went, 'Ok, this is it… now I can do it.' I did not want to have a script laying around that I couldn’t get made. I wanted this really kind of unpredictable, disjointed schedule, and I also wanted the pieces to be completely unpredictable." Haunting Melissa, written by True Crime novelist Andrew Klavan, is available as a free downloadable app. Viewers can watch the first chapter of the found-footage horror film for free, but to continue the story, they can pay per...

Though the project flirted with an A-list director like Christopher Nolan and Michael Bay for a while, the new Twilight Zone movie is set to move forward with Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves at the helm. But there's one tiny problem: apparently Warner Bros. is not 100 percent on Jason Rothenberg's script. So what's the best way to fix that problem? Hire a new writer, of course! Variety has learned that WB has now in final negotiations with Tony Peckham to do a rewrite of the script for The Twilight Zone. The studio is quite familiar with Peckham, as he was the writer of Sherlock Holmes and Invictus, both of which were Warner Bros. properties. The writer's other work includes the Andrew Klavan-directed thriller Don't Say A Word. Unlike the original Twilight Zone movie from 1983, which was made by powerhouse directors John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante...

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries may have dropped mega bucks — and gotten paid big dollars — for their Aug. 20 wedding, but it wasn’t all in vain. Their five-star wedding actually might have helped the suffering U.S. economy!
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries‘s wedding may seem over-the-top and too extravagant to most people, but best-selling author, Hollywood screenwriter, and conservative social commentarian Andrew Klavan tells HollywoodLife.com the nuptials actually helped stimulate California’s suffering economy.
“It cost ten million dollars for that wedding, and every penny of that was spent on somebody doing a job. An honest job, that’s her money [and those that sponsored her] to spend as [they] want, and when she buys musicians flowers and a cake she’s stimulating the economy,” Klavan says, adding, “The rich create jobs, it’s the rich who make the economy work by spending their money on the rest of us. No one is hired by a poor person.

Go figure. It took Hollywood a couple of decades to figure out that, gee, if a lot of moviegoers are young kids, why don’t we find something they already like, and turn it into a movie! In this case, all those young adult novels that are currently being developed for the movies, invariable as a franchise. And it kinda makes sense to go ahead with the franchise approach, since these books are all series in book form already, so it’s not like you’re ever going to run out of material. ShoulderHill Entertainment co-founder Steven Addair announced a quintet of fright features the company will be shooting soon under the banner of Five Flix to Fear. All five of the Flix, which run the gamut of horror sub-genres, will be lensed in 3D.
“Fans of horror are so underestimated, and that’s exactly what Five Flix to Fear is about—not underestimating the fans,” Addair says “There’s nothing like having the lights go down and watching a good horror movie. It’s our job to give them something they’ll enjoy.”
The lineup is as follows:
• Otis, written and to be directed by Halloween: H20 and 5ive Days To Midnight co-scripter Robert Zappia, is a variation on the Beauty and the Beast story in which the former is a sorority girl and the latter is a disfigured teen who supposedly died 30 years earlier.

A month ago, novelist Andrew Klavan wrote a wild-eyed editorial at the La Times claiming that "Toy Story 3" was a "rebuke, not perhaps to the Obama White House specifically but to its underlying ideas." A major foundation of his argument was the point that Sunnyside Daycare Center stood in for a socialist society.
At the time, I wrote that "you'd be hard pressed to find another human being, American or otherwise, with any kind of interpretation of the film in the same ballpark as the one offered by Klavan." Well, allow me to eat those words, as The Stranger's Charles Mudede (who, incidentally, co-wrote the films "Zoo" and "Police Beat") offers a similar read on the film, this time as a complaint:
Things go dark almost immediately. The socialist utopia is not even given one chance to shine. A door opens and a bunch of noisy, dirty, ugly kids...

I’m sitting on the second row of my Senior year English class. My teacher, Mrs. Kallas (which was appropriately homophonic), uses her stringent voice to tell us the story of populism within the universe of The Wizard of Oz. The symbols of the political fight, the shoes, the farming scarecrow, the working tin man, something about William Jennings Bryan. It’s a great story, and all the symbols fit, but it’s not a good interpreation. For some reason, the myth of Wizard being an allegory for populism in the early 20th century has been perpetuated despite the true personal politics of L. Frank Baum. It’s a sign that anything can be read into anything. Enter Andrew Klavan and his editorial about Toy Story 3 as a political message against the politics of the current Democratic Party. Director Lee Unkrich responded to the infantile shoehorning of something relevant into something entertaining by saying, “Really...

Happy Election Day! While you're waiting in line at your local polling place, take some time to enjoy this insane editorial by mystery novelist Andrew Klavan at the La Times, who stretches in a perilous and alarming fashion to read into this year's Pixar film a heated commentary on our current political climate:
Last summer's Pixar blockbuster -- one of the best American films in a decade -- was a similar rebuke, not perhaps to the Obama White House specifically but to its underlying ideas. The fact that the film was such an immense hit, earning back over half its estimated $200-million budget in a single weekend, should have served as a warning that Americans, though they might like the president personally, do not share his agenda.
Totally. Except that you'd be hard pressed to find another human being, American or otherwise, with any kind of interpretation of the...

Andrew Klavan is a novelist and screenwriter whose works includes A Shock To The System (1990), True Crime (1999), and Don't Say A Word (2001) on which he was a co-producer. This interview he gave to the the Christian News Service (Cns) went up online today. Sure, this has long been the complaint from Hollywood Republicans. But I've witnessed the atmosphere out here becoming far less toxic for politically conservative or religious right or other non-liberal Industry types. On the other hand, it's just as toxic that this guy characterizes his liberal biz counterparts as "Anti-American". Your thoughts?...

Best Selling author Andrew Klavan is no stranger to the film industry. Two of his novels, True Crime and Don't Say A Word, have already gotten the Hollywood treatment with at least four more on the way in the form of his latest series, The Homelander. Summit Entertainment recently acquired the series adding yet another set of films to it's laundry list of young adult focused films. Except these are a little different. The first book in the series, The Last Thing I Remember, is high action, fast paced, and is right inside main character Charlie West's head, giving you a real sense of who he is. The book is free and clear of any sappy drama used to reel in the teenage girl crowd and at it's core is a great piece of action and a large bit of fun, despite the lead's struggles. In the four part series,...

ShoulderHill Films has optioned best-selling author and screenwriter Andrew Klavan’s screenplay Bury the Dead.
The film is a supernatural thriller that centers around a young couple who stumble upon an odd and slightly creepy village. Once there, they witness a “bizarre ritual killing,” before realizing that the next victim could be them.
Producers on the film are aiming to begin production in late 2010.
Klavan is probably best known for his work as an author of bestselling novels. His best-known book is True Crime, which was later developed into a film directed by Clint Eastwood. And that’s not the only instance of Klavan’s work being transposed onto the big screen — his novel Don’t Say A Word was also turned into a 20th Century Fox release starring Michael Douglas and Brittany Murphy.
Despite working primarily in the world of literature, Klavan also has some limited experience penning screenplays.

I used to read a lot of books back in the day but not as much anymore because of time and other commitments. I mention this because there has been a lot of great books over the past few years that make great ideas for movies. One such book series is by Andrew Klavan and its called Homelanders.
Before I get into the details of this project its important to know that back in the 80s Hollywood was really keen on youth thrillers not just in horror but also with government cover-ups, etc. Great films like War Games and the Manhattan Project were just a few. Hollywood was really keen on sending young teens into space in movies like The Last Starfighter and Space Camp. They even liked teens taking on communism and the end of the world in films like Red Dawn.

And another new film project out of the UK came to our attention today: best-selling author and screenwriter Andrew Klavan's Bury the Dead, which has been optioned by ShoulderHill Films, a subsidiary of ShoulderHill Entertainment.
Per ShoulderHill's website the supernatural thriller/horror film tells the story of a young couple who wander into a strange village where they witness a bizarre ritual killing and realize they may be next in line.
The film is scheduled to begin production in late 2010 with ShoulderHill's co-founder, Steven Addair, attached to direct. "Andrew is a fantastic writer who creates such an evocative mood.
