- Charley Lau was born on April 12, 1933 in Romulus, Michigan, USA. He was an actor, known for Max Dugan Returns (1983). He died on March 18, 1984 in Key Colony Beach, Florida, USA.
- One of the most renowned batting instructors in major league history, he was instrumental in the development of such baseball greats as George Brett.
- Lau played 11 seasons as a catcher in Major League Baseball for the Tigers, Braves, Orioles, and Athletics. Although he had a couple of good seasons, his career batting average was only .255 which is still ok if you're a good catcher. But he is best known as a successful batting instructor for several major league teams after his playing days were over.
