“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” has been renewed for a second season at HBO Max.
The show’s 10-episode first season, which premiered in July, is described as a “coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama” that is set miles away from the original I. Marlene King-created Freeform series’ hometown of Rosewood, but within the existing “Pretty Little Liars” universe.
Co-created by “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, the new “Pretty Little Liars” series tells the story of a series of tragic events that “almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart 20 years ago,” and how now, in present day, a “disparate group of teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin committed by their parents two decades ago…as well as their own,” per HBO Max.

HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin episode eight opens with the girls freaking out as they head into their usual decision spot: the ladies room. Episode seven ended with A sending a text with a photo of Tyler, dead. Tabby (Chandler Kinney) admits she thought A would kill Tyler and Mouse (Malia Pyles) begs them to call the police.
Faran (Zaria) wants to forward the photo to the cops but Tabby thinks since A sent it to them, he’d know how the cops got it. Mouse points out that A’s killed at least two people and Faran adds they were all horrible people. Imogen (Bailee Madison) thinks they need to get back to the basics and investigate the sixth signature from the Radley log.

The long-awaited return to the Pretty Little Liars universe is nearly upon us.
Although Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin admits a connection to Rosewood, Millwood's story stands on its own.
Executive produced and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and co-executive produced and written by Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), the pedigree is a dark take on A's torment across two generations.
Twenty years ago, the blue-collar town of Millwood was torn apart by a series of tragic events, and the women at the core of that nightmare have daughters the same age now.
If they thought they had shed their mistakes and taken a brighter path into the future, Original Sin reveals that there is still a bill to pay, and it's coming due with new blood.
The former TV liars were not angels, but they weren't eager to get their hands dirty either. Our new liars lead...

At this point, it’s kind of difficult to say anything new or different about the concept of reboots, reimaginings, and revivals — especially when the particular intellectual property being rebooted, reimagined, or revived hasn’t been off the air that long. HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” is a revival, continuing the legacy established by the original series that said farewell less than a decade ago, and now, in the case of “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”, we’re talking about a series based on something that premiered 12 years ago… and only just ended five years ago.
It’s difficult to imagine that audiences have even really even been given a chance to miss the original show for long enough before “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring decided to bring it back in this “new” form.
Still, there’s no denying the nostalgia that comes with hearing the opening credits to “Original Sin,...

It seems like “A” still has a penchant for murder and torment.
On Wednesday, HBO Max released the trailer for its upcoming series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” revealing a masked assailant who is hellbent on making a new crop of teenagers pay for sins committed by their parents two decades ago — as well as their own.
The trailer sets the scene at Millwood High School. After experiencing a tragedy, Bailee Madison’s character stands up to her bullies and insists that she’s going to become one of the popular kids.
That is, until “A” arrives. Things start to turn dark as a student is seemingly murdered at the school dance. From there, the girls begin receiving haunting text messages and find themselves being watched at every turn.

After two impressive features—visually stunning Malickian riffs The Better Angels and Age Out, which married that director’s accomplished visual style with a narrative finesse and willingness to play with chronology—writer-director A.J. Edwards uncharacteristically stumbles with this third, First Love. Seemingly unable to adapt his impressionistic style to the grammar of a teen drama, First Love spreads in too many directions at once, packing enough story beats to round out a miniseries. While not as much of a catastrophe as, say, the After series—a connection that the production company Voltage is playing up, especially with the casting of Hero Fiennes Tiffin—Edwards’ project is stunning in singular moments and ultimately unable to reign its sprawling ideas and characters into a cohesive vision.

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Villain Has a New Set of Teenage Targets in ‘Original Sin’ Teaser Clip (Video)
Just when you thought “A” was finally gone…the anonymous assailant is terrorizing a new group of girls.
HBO Max dropped a teaser for “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” on Wednesday, and it looks like moving the franchise to a streamer has made it even more creepy. The teaser begins with someone opening a jewelry box, as a music box version of the “Pretty Little Liars” theme begins to play.
Gloved hands (presumably belonging to “A”) pin a police report and a few photos to a cork board. The the music quickly becomes distorted, and a demonic voice whispers the familiar words: “Got a secret, can you keep it?”
As the music descends into madness, the gloved hands slice a portrait of Bailee Madison in half and shred a missing persons report for another girl named Minnie “Mouse” Honrada. The trailer ends on another ominous lyric from the theme song:...

A new generation of Pretty Little Liars gets underway next month.
HBO Max announced Wednesday that Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will touch down Thursday, July 28.
Three new episodes will be available on premiere day, with two new episodes each on August 4 and 11 and the final three episodes debuting August 18.
It's not a bad rollout strategy.
The original series suffered from spoon-feeding the answers over the course of massive seasons.
Dropping more than one episode a week should be enough to keep fans satisfied.
"Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart," reads the official description.
"Now, in present day, a disparate group of teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin committed by their parents two decades ago...as well as their own."

The next evolution of the Pretty Little Liars franchise is about to drop on HBO Max.
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will debut its ten-episode season on July 28 with three episodes. Two new episodes will follow on August 4 and 11, with the final three episodes debuting August 18.
Executive produced and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale) and co-executive produced and written by Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), the dark, teen melodrama introduces a new generation of Liars who are tormented by A — a masked killer hellbent on punishing them for the sins of their mothers, as well as their own.

Innovative Artists, which represents Rust director of photography Halyna Hutchins, issued a statement Friday in the wake of Hutchins’ death on the set of the Alec Baldwin Western at Bonanza Creek Ranch outside of Santa Fe, Nm.
“Halyna Hutchins was a ray of light. Always smiling, always hopeful. She decided early on she would take the craft of cinematography by storm and the last couple of years proved she was well on her way,” the agency said.
“Her talent was immense, only surpassed by the love she had for her family. All those in her orbit knew what was coming; a star director of photography, who would be a force to be reckoned with.
“All of us at Innovative Artists are heartbroken. We mourn for her family and we hope this tragedy will reveal new lessons for how to better ensure safety for every crew member on set.”
