His only child, son, Justin Fritz Leiber, was born on July 8, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois and was a university professor and science fiction writer. He had numerous academic appointments, including an instructorship at Memphis State University (1962-1963) and assistant professorships at Utica College of Syracuse University (1963-1965), the State University of New York at Buffalo (1966-1968) and Lehman College (1968-1977). While at the latter institution, he held visiting appointments at King's College London (honorary visitor; 1970-1971), St. Catherine's College, Oxford (philosophy tutor; 1971-1972) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (visiting scientist; 1976-1978). A full professor at the University of Houston from 1978 onward, Leiber ended his career at Florida State University. He married and divorced Aleta Misel and was married to Barbara R. Foorman of Tallahassee; and father of KC Leiber and ArLynn Leiber Presser; and grandfather of Joseph and Eastman Presser and Jonquil Leiber-Wyatt. He died on March 22, 2016 in Tallahassee, Florida from prostate cancer.
