Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.
Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. "Office Space," Mike Judge's satirical take on white collar office culture, disappointed at the box office but soon became a cult favorite after it arrived in 1999. That was mostly thanks to home video sales and Comedy Central airing the film multiple times after its theatrical run. But "Office Space" thoroughly deserved whatever cult status it attained, because it always felt very much ahead of its time.
The film stars Ron Livingston as Peter Gibbons, a put-upon programmer who spends his days amid the bleakly oppressive environs of software company Initech. After being hypnotized to stop caring about his job, Peter takes a lackadaisical approach to work and surprisingly begins to climb his way up the corporate ladder. But when his colleagues Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) and Michael Bolton (David Herman) are fired, Peter and his friends mastermind a plan to steal money from Initech via a software virus. The...

The character "Michael Bolton" in Office Space is a running gag that the real singer found frustrating at first. The movie's relatable workplace satire has gained a cult following with references and parodies in pop culture. Despite initial dislike, the real Michael Bolton has accepted the joke as part of his legacy in later years.
Michael Bolton appears in Office Space, or rather, a character named "Michael Bolton" appears in Office Space as a running gag that the real-life singer was none too pleased with. Office Space, from movie director and TV showrunner Mike Judge, is a satirical comedy about the daily drudgery of the modern workplace. A biting satire with an all-star cast that includes Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, John C. McGinley, and more, it's astounding that the comedy flopped at the box office.
However, Office Space has since developed such a large cult following.

Band of Brothers was a groundbreaking HBO achievement, showcasing deep, character-driven storytelling in a war setting. The series, based on a true story, follows "Easy" Company's intense journey during WWII, highlighting bravery and sacrifice. Many well-known actors, like Damian Lewis and Michael Fassbender, got their start in Band of Brothers, showcasing exceptional talent.
Band of Brothers was an incredible achievement by HBO; one that might’ve started the prestige TV era, proving that with good actors and scripts, episodic television can give more time and depth to all of its characters than a two-hour movie ever could. It’s one of the best HBO shows of all time, and one as ambitious as tricky, to the point that writer John Orloff admits they were worried if the disparity of points of view could work.

Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.
Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.
Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

Farrelly had big plans for Loudermilk season 4 before its cancellation, envisioning a storyline where Sam Loudermilk deals with newfound fame. Despite the show's rise in popularity on Netflix, there is no guarantee of a season 4, as it still lacks a production sponsor. Loudermilk's resurgence on Netflix has brought attention to the show's quality, with hope that the streaming platform may greenlight a new season.
Loudermilk creator Peter Farrelly reveals the plans he had for season 4 before the show's cancelation. The dramedy ran from 2017-20, but recently it has experienced a significant comeback after its three seasons became available to stream on Netflix. It was an original series from the AT&T-owned Audience network that first landed on Prime Video for streaming. On the Amazon streamer and Audience, the show boasted a small fanbase. “Loudermilk” just got a whole lot louder.
In December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, the Peter Farrelly comedy starring Ron Livingston (who plays the titular Loudermilk), Will Sasso, and Anja Savcic ranked 828th among all streaming shows, according to Reelgood. Now on Netflix, it’s ninth.
Even “Suits” could get jealous of that bump.
Each month, Reelgood measures what it calls 20 million “viewing decisions” on 25,000 shows across more than 200 streaming platforms. Check out the measurement app’s aptly titled “Rise from Obscurity” line graph for “Loudermilk,” as shared with IndieWire:
Chart courtesy of Reelgood
Before you wave off Reelgood’s methodology, let’s check in with Nielsen, the TV ratings giant.
In its first three weeks on Netflix, “Loudermilk” has made Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for acquired streaming programs each week: eighth twice and 10th once. As an Amazon Prime Video series, “Loudermilk” never charted — and it is safe that say it never came close.

"I believe you have my stapler." Odds are, the majority of people who enjoy comedy films would be able to tell you that quote is from "Office Space." Directed by "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge, it was his first live-action feature and would probably rank near the top of any list of things he's made if one were to conduct an informal survey of his fans. That's the way it is now. In 1999 when the film first hit theaters? Not so much. "Office Space" majorly disappointed against high expectations and, at least at first, seemed like it was going to be forgotten to time. Then a straight-up cult developed around the workplace comedy and it's now a part of the fabric of popular culture.

What was old was extremely new on Netflix in January and even into this month.
Specifically, the Peter Farrelly-created dramedy series about addiction, Loudermilk, which was barely found in its original run on the now-unplugged AT&T Audience Network, became a must-see show on the streamer six-plus years after its original airing.
In Nielsen’s Top 10 for Streaming Originals (January 8-14), Loudermilk ranked No. 8 with 846 million viewing minutes.
But even before that list was published, Loudermilk was showing signs of life across the streamer’s own Top 10 charts. Loudermilk Season 1 was in the Netflix Top 10 most-viewed shows in the U.S. for four weeks with a peak rank of No. 4 during the week of January 15-21. Season 2 of Loudermilk ranked in the Netflix top 10 stateside during the week of July 28.

Loudermilk, an irreverent music-based dramedy series, has gained popularity since streaming on Netflix in 2024. Cutter, a beloved character from Season 1, abruptly departed the show due to the actor's real-life battle with substance abuse. There are hopes and plans for Cutter to return in Loudermilk Season 4, potentially focusing on his return and subsequent sobriety.

Ron Livingston has found his niche as a glorious curmudgeon in the show Loudermilk, upgrading his character work from Office Space. Livingston's portrayal of Sam Loudermilk in Loudermilk feels like a seasoned version of his Office Space character, delivering lines with sarcasm and a half-smile. Loudermilk is a reluctant hero who offers growling friendship to those who deserve it, making it a hero's journey where the hero is angry at the path he has to tread.
There are few cult classics like Office Space, the workplace comedy that looked at how much people hate their jobs. However, actor Ron Livingston seems to have found his niche once again with the show Loudermilk. Unhappy, a bit grumpy, and annoyed by those around him. These are the qualities of his two most beloved characters.
Loudermilk is now in its third season, and Livingston seems to have found his clearly defined role as a glorious curmudgeon.

Shows like Loudermilk challenge viewers to root for difficult characters by showing that people are more than their mistakes and can change with support. Loudermilk's acerbic protagonist, Sam Loudermilk, hides a caring heart behind layers of sarcasm and expletives, making him a complex and compelling character. The show tackles serious topics like addiction and uses sharp wit to navigate through the challenges of life, emphasizing the importance of relationships and empathy.
In recent years, shows like Loudermilk, which feature an acerbic protagonist with a troubled past, have become increasingly popular, leading many shows to follow the example of its unlikely hero's journey. At first, watching Loudermilk leads a viewer to wonder why anyone would root for such difficult people with so few qualities to recommend them. However, as the show progresses, the answer becomes clear; a person is much more than their mistakes and anyone can change with the right support.

Loudermilk is a hilarious TV series with gut-bustingly funny scenes, thanks to Ron Livingston's cynical performance and a colorful cast of characters. Memorable moments include outrageous courtroom drama, dark comedy encounters, and hilarious coffee shop squabbles that reveal the character's persona. The show balances comedic chops with genuine sincerity and drama, making it one of the funniest TV shows of the streaming era.
Loudermilk is quickly becoming one of the most irreverent comedy TV series of the streaming era, with plenty of gut-bustingly funny scenes that stand out. The series follows the struggles of Sam Loudermilk, a washed up former music critic and recovering alcoholic Seattleite who finds himself acting as a career counselor, despite his sardonic outlook on life. While it has moments of genuine sincerity and drama, Loudermilk's comedic chops are what help it stand out as one of the funniest TV shows to come out of the 2010s.

As “Masters of the Air” nears its end, one surviving member of the Air Force’s “Bloody Hundredth” bombing group finds himself standing next to a fireplace, sipping on whiskey, and quoting the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. “Whoever fights monsters should take care not to become a monster himself,” he paraphrases for his fellow flyer, as they prepare to leave the war behind and return to their families. “Because if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes right back at you.”
In the moment, the sentiment is sound enough. Both men have experienced war, up close and personal, and both have been shaped by the harrowing combat all around them. It’s only natural to wonder what they’ll be like when they’re home, when they’re grounded, when the bombs are no longer dropping from the sky. Can they go back to their families, their wives, their kids,...

The three seasons of sobriety-centered comedy Loudermilk, about a washed-up music journalist starring Ron Livingston as the eponymous character, was a hit with fans. Still, there are doubts about whether a fourth season will exist. The first three seasons of Loudermilk premiered on the now-defunct Audience Network, a subsidiary of AT&T that ran exclusively on the company's DirecTV premium television service. The parent company shut down the network before the third season's release, and while the show wasn't canceled, its broadcasting network was, and Loudermilk was left without a home. Fans scratched their collective heads, wondering if their favourite churlish Gen X'er and company would ride again.

In the early 2000s, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks returned to World War II with the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. Among many notable things about the series, the cast was stacked with names that were relatively big then and would become even more prominent in the future, including Ron Livingston, Damien Lewis, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Andrew Scott, Tom Hardy, and David Schwimmer. However, despite such a wide-spanning cast, one of the most interesting stories comes from an actor that was not cast in the show. The aforementioned actor was cast in a minor part, but was fired for a loosely defined reason by the episode's director: Tom Hanks. The actor was told Hanks thought he had "dead eyes," and recast him days before filming, but little did Hanks know how this decision would unfold.

Cutter's absence in Loudermilk Season 2 was due to actor Danny Wattley's real-life struggles with substance abuse. The show's executive producer, Peter Farrelly, stated that Wattley has since gone through rehab and is now sober. Plans for Loudermilk Season 4 include the return of Cutter and the resolution of his character's storyline.
The dramedy Loudermilk appeared to drop Danny Wattler’s character Cutter after season 1, but there was a behind-the-scenes reason for the show's choice. Loudermilk is a comedy-drama that focuses on the taciturn music critic Sam Loudermilk, a recovering alcoholic who can’t stop insulting everyone he meets. Although Loudermilk’s personal life is something of a mess, the show’s antihero does his best to act as a counselor for an addiction support group. Loudermilk’s mean streak is tempered by how much he cares about his group’s regulars, even if he is scarcely more prepared to...

If you followed indie film in the 90s, Vince Vaughn was at the center of a legendary tale. As the story goes, in order to get permission to use the theme from Jaws in the film Swingers, Doug Liman screened the film for Steven Spielberg’s approval. Not only did Stevie Boy allow them to use the scary shark tune but the legendary director knew he had to work with whoever was playing Trent Walker. And, he did just that when he cast Vince Vaughn in his Jurassic Park sequel, The Lost World. Spielberg instantly knew that Vince Vaughn was superstar material and he was correctomundo. Over the last nearly 30 years, he has given us some of the best comedic performances mixed in with some bone chilling anti-heroes. But it seems in the past few years Vaughn has slowed down his output to focus on smaller roles in more meaningful projects.

At first glance, it may seem like ABC's A Million Little Things was a show about death — it certainly gives off this impression from the first episode. However, the popular show went on to expand from that, and many of its deeper themes soon became apparent. While never really hitting the mark with critics, with sluggish ratings barely above the 50% mark, A Million Little Things was terminally underrated.
Despite this, the show had a loyal following, and a fan base that appreciated its straightforward good qualities, even if they were plain and not put across with any special resonance that garnered acclaim. After a successful four-season run between 2018 and 2022, showrunner DJ Nash somewhat abruptly announced that the fifth season would be its last. Its loyal fans were left devastated, quickly petitioning for more.
Here's a look at why A Million Little Things ended, and why we think it should come back.

Among the most underrated romantic comedies ever made is Comet (2014), starring Emmy Rossum and Justin Long. Those performers got their start around the same time as one another, with Long debuting in Galaxy Quest (1999) and Rossum in Songcatcher (2000) at the turn of the century. The former film is far more famous. But Songcatcher saw great success upon release, as well. In the following year, Long starred in a horror stint called Jeepers Creepers (2001), and it was off to superstardom from there.
Meanwhile, Rossum appeared in Mystic River (2003) by Clint Eastwood, then traversed a similar trajectory. She followed up with another supporting role in The Day After Tomorrow (2004), along with the first co-starring role of her career in The Phantom of the Opera (2004). "Masters of the Air" has a more exciting cast list than "The Pacific," with recognizable faces like Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan. The show will accurately portray the real-life experiences of Major Gale Cleven and Lt. Curtis Biddick, two B-17 Flying Fortress bomber pilots from the 100th Bombardment Group. An Emmy-nominated documentary cinematographer with credits including “Procession” and “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” Robert Kolodny puts his expert eye for shooting nonfiction to playful narrative use in his feature directing debut “The Featherweight.” A meticulously designed, gutsily played biopic of world champion featherweight boxer Guglielmo Papaleo, better known as Willie Pep — covering not his 1940s glory days but his faltering attempt at a comeback two decades later — the film is convincingly fashioned as a candid all-access documentary, a promotional puff piece curdling before our eyes into an unintended study of mental breakdown.
