On the ‘90s sitcom “The Nanny,” Fran Drescher’s flighty character ends up becoming a childcare provider for a single father (Charles Shaughnessy) after she shows up on his doorstep bereft, having been recently dumped. Though she was an unorthodox choice for a sitter, the show’s theme song reminds us, she had a few things going for her: “She had style, she had flair, she was there.”
Subtract the style and flair and you have “Country Comfort,” a show about a person hired to care for children simply because she was there — and a show that seems to exist on Netflix only because it was there as well. Created by Caryn Lucas, an executive producer on “The Nanny” as well as the writer of “Miss Congeniality,” the show lacks any real signature other than a put-on, gaudy raunchiness that seems likely to alienate families with young children — who might...

Katharine McPhee is returning to the small screen.
The beloved actress and musician will lead the cast of Netflix comedy Country Comfort, according to TV Line.
Netflix handed out a straight-to-series order for the multi-camera sitcom which finds the actress "as a modern-day, country-tinged version of Fran Drescher’s iconic au pair" from the hit TV series The Nanny.
Even though there are similarities to The Nanny, it does actually come from that show's executive producer, Caryn Lucas, but TV Line notes that it is not a reboot of the series.
McPhee is set to play a country singer named Bailey, who takes a job as a nanny for a cowboy and his five children.
“With a never-give up attitude and loads of Southern charm, this newbie-nanny is able to navigate the family dynamics and be the mother figure they’ve been missing,” per the official logline.

Take The Nanny and The Partridge Family and, ahem, smash them together and that’s Katharine McPhee‘s TV comeback vehicle in a nutshell.
TVLine has learned that Netflix has placed a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for Country Comfort, a new multi-cam sitcom starring McPhee as a modern-day, country-tinged version of Fran Drescher’s iconic au pair. Freeform announced in March that the recently-concluded fifth season of Young & Hungry would be the popular multi-camera comedy series’ last, and that a finale movie was in the works to wrap up loose ends, but those plans have been scrapped. Star Emily Osment tweeted the news late last night. Freeform confirmed to Deadline Friday that the network is not moving forward with the movie, but revealed no further details.
“It breaks my heart to tell you that in addition to @FreeformTV not giving our Young & Hungry audience the ending our show deserved, they have Also decided to not go forward with a full length film,” Osment tweeted. “From me and my obvious future tv hubby @sadowski23 we love you and we’re sorry.”
The Season 5 finale ended with Gabi (Osment) proposing to Josh and asking him to move with her to Seattle, where she’ll be working under Iron Chef’s Alex Guarnaschelli.

Freeform has had its fill of Young & Hungry — the sitcom’s current fifth season will indeed be its last. But (and this is a pretty big “but”) the cabler announced on Thursday that it is developing a two-hour movie that will “further the adventures of Gabi, Josh and their circle of friends.”
The series’ final 10 episodes (aka Season 5B) will premiere on Wednesday, June 20 at 8/7c. Rumors about the series’ end game kicked up last month when leading lady Emily Osment told fans on social media that the show’s “final 10 episodes” would air sometime in 2018. And then earlier this week,...
