There’s no getting around it — Mario Bava’s one space opera is now confirmed as a classic. Barry Sullivan and Norma Bengell must oppose invisible aliens that possess the corpses of their fellow space men. Bava’s ‘gothic’ Haunted Planet recipe just adds more weird colored lights and swirling fog to his supernatural Gothic formula. The designs are excellent and the results unique, from the odd spacecraft to the kinky costumes. The show is also genuinely influential, as should be well known to every fan of more modern sci-fi / horror films. The new HD remaster is an improvement, too!

Italy’s Lucisano Media Group and Pascal Breton’s Paris-based Federation Entertainment have signed a deal to co-develop and co-produce a high-end TV series based on U.S. author Glenn Cooper’s “Library of the Dead” trilogy of thrillers.
The partnership to adapt these global bestsellers is being touted by Lucisano Group, which is among Italy’s oldest producers of film and TV genre content, as “an important step” towards becoming more international, the company said in a statement. Lucisano’s English-language releases include “Drive” by Nicolas Winding Refn, with whom it is developing a previously announced TV series “Les Italiens.”
The “Library of the Dead” trilogy features a New York-based FBI agent named Will Piper and involves a library situated under an ancient monastery where deadly secrets are concealed. Cooper’s books have been translated into 31 languages and sold over 6 million copies worldwide, and are particularly popular in Italy.

"Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn has added a third remake of a classic horror film to his upcoming filmmaking plans and, like those films, he's set to only produce rather than direct for his Space Rocket banner.
This third one, which follows on from the long announced "Maniac Cop" remake and the recently announced "Witchfinder General" remake, will be a new version of Massimo Dallamano's 1972 giallo film "What Have You Done To Solange?".
Loosely based on the Edgar Wallace mystery novel, the story is set at an all-girls school where a killer is on the loose. A gym teacher, who has been sleeping with one of his students, becomes a suspect and sets out to find the real killer.
Fulvio Lucisano, who produced the original and has released all of Refn's films in Italy, will produce. Refn presented a restoration of Lucisano's "Planet Of The Vampires" at Cannes last week.

With the confirmation of Maniac Cop moving forward and the addition of Witchfinder General Danish filmmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn has added the final piece to a trio of horror film remakes. Deadline reports that Refn has added the 1972 Giallo flick What Have You Done To Solange? to his production slate and will set the tale in Los Angeles. He will work with Solange's original producer Fulvio Lucisano who also released all of Refn's films in Italy. Lucisano also produced the 1965 film Planet of the Vampires which Refn screened a restoration of at Cannes this year. Much like Refn working with his UK distributor Rupert Preston on Witchfinder Refn is recognizing Lucisano's loyalty throughout his career. Loosely based on the Edgar Wallace...

Massimo Dallamano may be best known to some as the cinematographer of Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), credited under the pseudonym Jack Dalmas. Following his collaborations with Leone, Dallamano would only serve as cinematographer twice more (his last credit being French director Michel Deville’s 1966 comedy The Mona Lisa Has Been Stolen starring George Chakiris and Marina Vlady). The explosive popularity of the spaghetti western would allow Dallamano to begin his own career as a director, with 1967 debut Bandidos (credited under another pseudonym, Max Dillman), but he’d soon after turn to the bread and butter of more exploitative genre fare. The director of eleven features, up until his death in 1976, Dallamano’s enduring, fascinating masterpiece stands as the 1972 title What Have You Done to Solange? Credited as a giallo staple, Dallamano’s film is more of a hybrid of subgenres, a mixed giallo and poliziotteschi film.

Exclusive: Beijing-based Huayi Brothers Media Corporation has boarded the Chinese remake of Italian comedies Men Vs Women and Women Vs Men and will produce with Cai Gongming’s Road Pictures and Italian filmmaker Cristiano Bortone.
Huayi Brothers will also distribute the project, which is currently being scripted and is expected to start shooting before the end of the year. The remake is in the process of attaching a director and is expecting to draw an ensemble cast of major Chinese stars.
Cai and Bortone are combining episodes from the two original films to make one movie to start with, but envisage the concept as a possible franchise under the title Gender Wars. “The story has characters of different ages and backgrounds, so it will appeal to all audience age groups,” said Cai. “It also gives us an opportunity to look at changing gender identity roles in Chinese society.”

Mandarin-language remake targets Chinese love affair with romantic comedies.
Italian battle of the sexes comedies Men Vs Women and Women Vs Men are to be remade for the Chinese market in a joint project involving Cai Gongming’s Lushang Youhua (Road Pictures) and Italian producer Cristiano Bortone.
Italian filmmaker Fausto Brizzi’s original films (Maschi contro Femmine and Femmine contro Maschi), each consisting of four intertwining stories exploring the battle of the sexes, came out in Italy in 2010 and 2011.
Their light-hearted take on love and gender relations could prove a perfect fit for the Chinese film market where romantic comedies such as Finding Mr. Right, One Night Surprise and So Young have been drawing big audiences over the past year.
Bortone of Orisa Produzioni, which operates in Italy and Germany, negotiated the acquisition of the Mandarin-language remake rights for both films from Frederica Lucisano and Fulvio Lucisano of Italian International Film, who produced...

Rome -- Italian International Films, one of Italy's oldest film production houses, is again preparing to list its shares on the Italian Stock Exchange, five months after weak economic conditions in Italy forced the 50-year-old company to abandon Ipo plans.
The company, still headed by founder Fulvio Lucisano, is behind some of the biggest hits in Italian cinema in recent years, including the smash "Notte prima degli esami" (Night Before Finals), Italy's top-grossing motion picture two years ago, and its successful sequel "Notte prime degli esami 2."
The company, best known as Iif, has annual revenue of about 55 million euros ($78 million) from both film production and distribution and the operation of 80 cinemas in Italy.
Iif originally filed for the Ipo with stock market regulator Consob late last year. Because of the delay, it will have to refile the same paperwork again this time around. Consob said that Iif will be among...
