After it arose from a late lamented cinema that used to screen the newest Hollywood releases at a time when they would land in the country after much of the world had seen them, The Chanakya in Delhi’s Diplomatic Enclave has transformed into an upscale mall headlined by a parade of luxury brands.
In this gentrified location, flanked, ironically, by a popular destination for momos of all kinds, Mkt has become one of the city’s busiest restaurants, even as its neighbour, Foodhall, the go-to place for people looking for artisanal food ingredients and products, shut down and made way for another popular gourmet food store, Le Marche.
Mkt is back in the news because its new head chef, Rinki Saha, an alumna of the Wendell College, Chicago, and formerly with Bastian, Mumbai, has tweaked the restaurant’s already food-forward menu for the better. And the menu change is the first in six years.

Spinning audiences back to the mid-1970s, UFA Fiction’s latest period series “Disko 76” is set in a pivotal time in the industrial heartland of West Germany as a new American pop music craze takes over the airwaves and dance floors.
The six-part series, which premiered at the recent Berlinale Series Market, continues its international rollout at Series Mania in Lille before bowing on the Rtl+ streaming platform on March 28 and on Rtl Group channel Nitro on April 1.
UFA Fiction quickly won over Rtl+ with the idea from former UFA Fiction producer Benjamin Benedict of a family story set in the disco era, says fellow producer Sinah Swyter.
Boasting classic hits from the likes of Donna Summer, Abba, Kool and the Gang, Boney M. and many more, the series follows Doro (Luise Aschenbrenner), a rebellious young woman constricted by married life who finds freedom with the arrival of disco...

Frank Farian, the mastermind producer responsible for the groups Milli Vanilli, Boney M., La Bouche, and more, has died. He was 82 years old.
Over the course of his six-decade career, Farian saw considerable success as a songwriter and producer, but his time as the mastermind behind Milli Vanilli — and their infamous lip-syncing controversy — is likely what most remember him for. Farian first met the group’s frontmen, Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, in Frankfurt, and signed a contract with them in January 1988, locking them into a deal.
Then, dissatisfied with the quality of the group’s vocal performances, Farian employed session vocalists — including Charles Shaw, John Davis, Brad Howell, and others — to provide the lead vocal parts for the duo’s recordings, leading to an arrangement where Pilatus and Morvan, against their desires, lip-synced the parts that they claimed to be singing themselves.

Farian founded R&b pop duo Milli Vanilli — comprised of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus — in the late 1980s.

German record producer and singer/songwriter Frank Farian, who founded Milli Vanilli and the disco-pop group Boney M., has died. He was 82.
His family released a statement confirming he died “peacefully” at his home in Miami, Florida.
Farian was the brains behind the pop duo Milli Vanilli, who was best known for their songs “Blame It On The Rain” and “Girl You Know It’s True.” He later admitted to the lip-syncing scandal that led to the revocation of the duo’s 1990 Grammy for Best New Artist. It also led to multiple lawsuits in the U.S.
The Germany-born producer started his career off as a singer by forming a band called Frankie Boys Schatten. He then branched out as a solo artist before joining vocalists Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, front man Bobby Farrell and dancer Maizie Williams in 1976 to create Boney M. The role of the showstopper simply couldn’t have gone to someone more worthy. The unlikeliest femme fatale, the doe-eyed Nida, couldn’t be further from the stereotypical glamor-dripping portrayal of a good-girl-gone-bad that usually caters to the male gaze. Here’s a girl who’d send chills down your spine with just how deep her violent impulses run. Season 6 of Black Mirror draws the curtains with a bittersweet tale of human corruption–if you can even call it that, considering the contexts of the corrupt and her victims.
Spoilers Ahead
Newest Member Of Boney M
Can you really blame Nida for subduing her justified rage with fantasies of putting her insufferable, racist coworkers’ faces through the glass display shelf? Because I don’t. That’s the least that has a shot at comforting her when Vicky scrunches her bland nose at Nida’s lunch and her boss, being quite the racist degenerate himself,...

The season stands out for its unique style, which is characteristic of the show, and its exceptional technical quality that evokes the best moments of the series. Black Mirror has once again managed to surprise its audience by returning to its British origins and bringing back the quality and ideas that have made it one of the most popular shows among viewers. The season comprises several episodes, each with its own storyline and message.
Season 6. Chapters Joan is Awful
This episode is more amusing than terrifying and features Salma Hayek (who mocks her own diction) playing an actress in a series that parodies itself. It is a charming and humorous episode that serves as an excellent appetizer for this sixth season. Did you expect Charlie Brooker not to take AI beyond imagination? Wait until the end of the episode, where his idea of personalized content for Netflix is quite curious and,...

Demon 79 is the fifth episode of the sixth season of the popular television series, Black Mirror. Directed by Toby Haynes and written by Charlie Brooker, the episode takes the viewers on a nostalgic journey from the very first scene, imitating the style of productions from the past, including the opening credits and the characteristic B-movie style of the time.
The plot mixes comedy and terror, featuring a demon dressed in a Boney M costume, leading an innocent girl to commit three bloody crimes to prevent the apocalypse. As always, Black Mirror takes its viewers on a journey beyond their expectations.
Demon 79
The episode features Dammer encountering Boney M, a political shift, and a changing reality, reminiscent of movies like “Back to the Future” or “The Twilight Zone”. The parody is very well executed, effective, and intelligent, leaving viewers with a good taste in their mouth, both technically and stylistically.

Merry Christmas, one and all, it's time to break out the mince pies (as if you haven't already), pour the prosecco and put on some festive music.
Christmas songs don't always have to be merry – among the most beloved festive tunes are "2,000 Miles" by The Pretenders, which is curiously bleak, and the heartbreak of Wham!'s "Last Christmas".
Of course, there are plenty of upbeat songs on our list, too, from Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" to Mariah Carey's"All I Want for Christmas is You".
Here are some of our favourites, from Forties classics to more recent pop hits, to get your Christmas celebrations into full swing.
18) “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” – John Lennon and Yoko Ono
There’s a caveat to the optimistic message of the song’s title. “War is over,” sing a choir of children over festive tambourines, but only, they add,...

‘The Power of the Doctor’ was one of the most hotly anticipated Doctor Who episodes in the show’s history, as we prepared to say goodbye not just to Jodie Whittaker but Mandip Gill, John Bishop and showrunner Chris Chibnall, plus rumours circulated wildly about an unexpected regeneration twist.
When the episode aired on Sunday night, fans and critics alike ate it up, live-tweeting their reactions with gusto – and from the reactions so far, ‘The Power of the Doctor’ certainly didn’t disappoint.

Saying goodbye to Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor feels bittersweet. As the first female actor to play the Time Lord, she’s brought Doctor Who up to speed with modern times – but her tenure has often struggled to live up to its potential. That’s due less to her performance – lord knows, she’s been giving all she can – than the scripts the actor has been given. There’s been a renewed interest in the show with Russell T Davies, the brains behind the original reboot, taking back the showrunner reins for the next series.
We know that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will be the 14th Doctor – a choice that was warmly received by fans. But rather than speculating about its future, I want this last review to focus on Whittaker. And, given the final moments of Whittaker’s regeneration were removed from the episode sent to reviewers, the Doctor...

In a time of war, laughter — even of the wryest kind — can feel like an unpardonable luxury. And if Ukrainian director Antonio Lukich’s delightfully droll “Luxembourg Luxembourg” were even a little more flippant, and didn’t cut its comedic antics with an equal dose of melancholic wisdom, perhaps there would be some guilt attached to enjoying it so much. But with his second feature, an expansion of ambition after his wonkily wistful debut, “My Thoughts Are Silent,” Lukich hasn’t just made a slice of much-needed escapism. In the sincerity of its sentimentality and its humane, universal observations around absent fathers, errant sons and estranged brothers, the movie not only earns us the right to laugh during a period of suffering and conflict, it makes sharing in the warmth of its sweet-natured humor seem like a vital, revivifying act of resistance.

High energy comedy takes a road trip to somewhere considerably more melancholic in Ukrainian director Antonio Luckich's quirky Luxembourg, Luxembourg, which is screening in the Orizzonti section of Venice Film Festival.
His tale of twin brothers and their soon-to-be absentee father blasts out of the traps with the sort of livewire aplomb associated with the likes of Danny Boyle as we are meet Kolya and Vasya (Adrian and Daniel Suleiman) during a train escapade in their childhood. The adult Kolya introduces the pair via a fair chunk of voiceover - explaining the boy's relationship to their father, which forms the emotional crux of the film - but his ruminations are enlivened by the sprinting visuals as we watch Vasya race to the sound of Boney M's Daddy Cool to fetch their father after Kolya gets stuck on the back of the train as it picks up speed.

Time is always fleeting, but never has it seemed as warped and malleable as it has in 2020. Reality has been a painful pill to swallow at times this past year, but thankfully we’ve seen bright spots through it all, from much-needed movements for social justice to people casting their ballots for a more stable future than what we’ve experienced these past several years.
As important as it was to stay in tune with the world at large in 2020, it was also important to take the time to unplug, unwind, and relax our minds. For many of us last year, occasional escapism wasn’t just a luxury, it was a survival skill, and thankfully there were still plenty of new horror films, books, video games, and other forms of entertainment to enjoy from the comfort (and safety) of our quarantined homes. Here are some of the horror genre’s...

Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy can’t be a cheap show to make. This superhero story is based on an ambitious, colorful comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá and as such it features big action setpieces, depictions of superpowers, and even a talking chimp or two.
Still it’s hard to imagine any portion of The Umbrella Academy’s budget is larger than the music clearance department. The series features a moody score from Jeff Russo but also a truly stunning amount of pop hits. The Umbrella Academy made its musical intentions clear in its first episode with the now-beloved dance scene set to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” And the show’s investment in soundtrack and music has only grown from there.
“Music is such an important thing to me and I really take time to pick the songs,” showrunner Steve Blackman says.

After touching on financial precarity with “Sorry We Missed You,” social unrest with “Les Miserables” and refugee plight with “Atlantics,” the Cannes Film Festival put current issues on hold and rolled into a weekend full of girls, gangsters and guns.
As soon as the brute force punch of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Too Old to Die Young” had time to bruise over, the bloody festivities picked right back up for Saturday’s premiere of “The Wild Goose Lake” — a stylish Chinese crime thriller that feels an awful lot like a Refn movie funneled through Middle Kingdom sensibilities.
Or maybe that’s the other way around, because the rap on director Diao Yinan back home is that he’s the most American-minded contemporary Chinese filmmaker… but that could just mean that he likes to play around in genre.

Never Mind the Baubles features footage of benefit gig – and final UK show – band played for children of striking firefighters
Johnny Rotten handed out badges, posters and other Sex Pistols-branded goodies. Teens and young children hit the dancefloor with Sid Vicious to boogie to pop hits such as Baccara's Yes Sir, I Can Boogie and (yes, really) Daddy Cool by Boney M. Then Rotten leapt into a giant Christmas cake and the band and audience smeared each other with food.
The Sex Pistols' last UK gig – a benefit for the children of striking firefighters at Ivanhoe's nightclub in Huddersfield on Christmas Day 1977 – remains their most implausible. However, almost 36 years to the day later, this surreal milestone is landing on our screens via Never Mind the Baubles: Xmas '77 With the Pistols, to be shown on BBC4 on Boxing Day at 10pm.

After years of wishing and wanting, an adaptation on the timeless disco number “Rasputin” by Boney M. is in the mix. Just kidding! There is a limited event series coming up being called Rasputin, but it’s based on the true events that inspired that amazing song from the ‘70s. It might come as a shock, but Rasputin, “Russia’s greatest love machine,” was an extremely real and improbable individual. He led such a fascinating life that legends have sprung up about him and he was immortalized in a disco song. Now FX will turn his story into a series that ought to leave a new generation in awe of this impossible man.
Grigori Rasputin was a Russian peasant and mystic who became the private adviser to the Romanovs, the Russian Imperial family. The man became famous when Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra made him healer for their only son,...

If you wanted to start off your week with a middle-aged financial consultant dancing on a Belgian talent show, well, have we got the video for you!
The crowd goes nuts (or whatever the Belgian equivalent of nuts is) as Gerrit Wellens, 48, does an enthusiastic interpretive dance to "Sunny" by disco group Boney M. using moves he picked up from his kids.
If financial consulting doesn't work out for you, looks like you can explore a career in the dad dancing arts, Gerrit. Check out the clip above -- his dance starts at about one minute in.

A timely look at scenes involving watches and clocks
This week's Clip joint is by Maddy Potts. Think you can do better? Email your idea for a future Clip joint to adam.boult@guardian.co.uk
Clocks – the ticking over of hands or the neon glow of shape-shifting digits – an obvious but surprisingly diverse metaphor. They indicate the passing of time, they suggest ageing and they create suspense. They're the visual cue for a concept otherwise tough to portray in cinema – the almost incomprehensible inevitability of time. Characters can run out of it, be up against it or waste it, but the humble clock will play the lead in the cliche. For that reason, timepieces have found themselves being double-checked, wound up, smashed and hung on to for dear life in some of the most iconic moments in cinema.

We have an exclusive look at the first song coming from the Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor starrer Agent Vinod! With music by Pritam, the track with the title ‘I’ll Do the Talking’ was sung by Neeraj Sridhar. The cool thing is that this is Pritam’s take on ‘Rasputin’ by Boney M. He told Toi, “We have taken the rights of Boney M’s Rasputin. However, our song is based more on the Serbian folk song Ruse Kose Curo Imas. Even Rasputin draws inspiration from this song. A Turkish folk song Uskudar’a Gider Iken also has the same melody. Famous Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s song Shukno Paatar Noopur Paaye is also based on this folk tune.”
Shridhar Subramaniam of Sony Music added, “The song Rasputin by legendary band Boney M has been an all time favourite. We are delighted that this song will now get a fresh lease of life.

Amsterdam — Bobby Farrell, whose group Boney M topped the 1970s European charts with its glittering showmanship and blend of disco and Calypso music, was found dead in his hotel bed Thursday while on tour in Russia, his agent said. He was 61.
The frontman appeared as scheduled in St. Petersburg Wednesday night, but complained of breathing problems before and after his show, said the agent, John Seine.
The group had 38 top 10 hits, including 15 number ones in Germany. They included "Brown Girl in the Ring" and "Mary's Boychild." Their version of "By the Rivers of Babylon" sold nearly 2 million records in Britain alone, keeping it No. 1 for five weeks in 1978.
The same year, Boney M became the first Western music group invited by a Soviet leader, Leonid Brezhnev, to perform in the Soviet Union. A Soviet military plane flew the performers from London to Moscow, where they sang for an audience of 2,700 Russians in Red Square.

Diva Fever had a lot to prove on tonight’s X Factor show. The camp duo were dropped at judges houses and later brought back by Simon Cowell as his wildcard act.
Tonight, for their first live performance on the show they sang ‘Sunny; by Boney M. It seemed like an obscure song choice to us, as we only barely recognised the tune. The dark haired singer (sorry we don’t know their names off the top of our heads) is a good vocalist but the other one’s harmonies were a bit painful. It was like Boney M channelled through Wham, it was entertaining and fun but it didn’t blow our minds. We did like the luminous lycra trousers though.
Judges Comments:
