“High Desert” is headed beyond the horizon at Apple TV+. In a video posted on Instagram Saturday morning, series star Patricia Arquette shared that the production had not received an order for a second season at the streamer.
“A lot of you have asked about ‘High Desert’ and if there was going to be a second season, so I just wanted to let you know that we just found out that we won’t be coming back,” Arquette opened. “That’s a sad bummer for all of us.”
Arquette extended her gratitude to the crew, writers and actors on the series. The post was accompanied with a text caption: “It stinks.”
“We just had a blast. I love Peggy and that punk rock world,” Arquette continued. “Thanks to you guys for watching. Can’t win them all. You know, it sucks but… tough.”
Representatives for Apple TV+ were not immediately available for comment.

Lionsgate has taken a majority stake in management-production powerhouse 3 Arts Entertainment, a deal that reflects in the entertainment industry’s push to marry premium content providers with global distribution assets.
Lionsgate said 3 Arts would continue to be led by partners Erwin Stoff, Howard Klein, Michael Rotenberg, Molly Madden, Dave Becky, David Miner, and Nick Frenkel. The company was founded in 1991 by Stoff, Klein and Rotenberg. Lionsgate said it would assemble an operating board to oversee the company.
“We’re excited to be partnering with a best-in-class talent management company that shares our entrepreneurial culture and vision for the future,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. “This deal checks all the boxes — a strategic and accretive transaction for our shareholders and a win/win partnership for both companies. It enables us to deepen our already successful relationship with 3 Arts and allows them to offer a richer palette of opportunities to their clients.

As Deadline exclusively revealed in April would happen, Lionsgate Entertainment has bulked up its asset base of content generating and client representation by completing a majority stake purchase for top management/production company 3 Arts Entertainment. We reported last month that the deal was in the works, and that Lionsgate is in talks to buy 50% of 3 Arts with an option to acquire the remaining 50% in five years. The numbers we heard pegged 3 Arts’ valuation at $300 million at the least, with some sources indicating it could be closer to $350 million.
The management/production company’s leadership would be staying put after the transaction. That includes 3 Arts partners Erwin Stoff, Michael Rotenberg, Howard Klein, David Miner, Dave Becky, Nick Frenkel and Molly Madden.

Last year I had quite a bit to say about the Oscar show itself. This yearc Eh, not so much. The show wasn't very good in my opinion, but at the same time I don't really blame that on Neil Patrick Harris, most anyone would have suffered with the material he was given. Granted, the overall night made it seem like Harris contributed far less to the show than Ellen DeGeneres did last year, or perhaps he just can't deliver comedy as well as DeGeneres. Many of Harris's jokes fell dreadfully flat. His opening monologue played more like a eulogy to the Oscars and the industry as a whole rather than the comedic roasting it was meant to deliver, and it wasn't only Harris. Jack Black's addition to the opening musical number was not only great, it was spot on. Liam Neeson even continued the trend as he introduced...

Sean Penn announced that the top award went to Birdman.
Speaking backstage later in the press room, director Alejandro G Iñárritu said of being Mexican: “Well, look at this room. I don’t know how many nationalities are in this room, but I don’t feel different to anybody of you here.
“You know, it can be from any continent, from any language. I don’t care. I as an artist, as a human, as a filmmaker, I cannot have these stupid borders, flags, and passports. Those are a concept that were invented by a human society.
“But, honestly, naked, in tighty whities we will be the same. And I have never felt that different. So for me to make films in the United States, or in Africa, or in Spain, or in Mexico, I’m talking...

One big difference between Taylor Schilling and the character she plays on Orange Is the New Black: "I don't roll with juice cleanses," says the first-time Emmy nominee, who plays inmate Piper Chapman in the Netflix hit. In the first episode of the series, Chapman tried a master cleanse, but Schilling, 30, is adamantly against such a dramatic diet. "I will never do that," she tells People. "I like chicken. And beans." With only a few weeks until the Emmy Awards, the nominee for lead actress in a comedy has chosen her date (manager Molly Madden) and must-bring snack (almonds) for the evening.

Debra Messing is making a return to half-hour comedy with a starring role in ABC's pilot "Wright vs. Wrong."
The Emmy-winning "Will & Grace" alumna also will serve as an executive producer and take up ownership on the single-camera project, from Sony TV and Tantamount.
Penned by actress-writer Stephnie Weir ("MadTV"), "Wrong" centers on Evelyn Wright (Messing), a driven conservative pundit who tries to maintain her public persona despite facing her own vulnerabilities.
Messing will executive producer alongside Tantamount's Mitch Hurwitz, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum. Weir also will exec produce, with Messing's manager Molly Madden also set to receive a producing credit. Andy Fickman is directing.
Last year, Messing was attached to a comedy project by writers Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott that sparked a bidding war before landing at NBC.
After her eight-year run on NBC's "Grace," which earned her an Emmy, Messing, repped by Gersh, 3 Arts and attorney Rick Genow,...
