- Nobuhiko Ôbayashi was born on January 9, 1938 in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. He was a director and editor, known for House (1977), Turning Point (1994) and The Discarnates (1988). He was married to Kyôko Ôbayashi. He died on April 10, 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

- A student of piano, he features the instrument prominently in numerousfilms, particularly House (1977) and The Drifting Classroom (1987).
- Obayashi almost made a Godzilla film, called A Space Godzilla.
- He was given his nickname in the 70s, when he was directing some commercials with Kirk Douglas and Charles Bronson. They had difficulty with his last name, so they shorted it to "OB."
- Ôbayashi was friends with Godzilla director Ishiro Honda. Obayashi casted Honda in two of his films and after his death in 1993, Obayashi included a photograph of Honda in his film Samurai Kids in his honor.
