It’s the New York Yankees story they didn’t want you to know about. Before the team’s dynasty was rebuilt they first had to endure the debacle that was the scandal-packed 1990 season. This turbulent chapter in the franchise’s history is examined in new Peacock docuseries Bronx Zoo ‘90: Crime, Chaos and Baseball. Most of what was making headlines happened off the field. Long-time skipper Billy Martin had died in a car crash, leading to a rotating door within management. George Steinbrenner was banned from baseball after enlisting the help of a gambler named Howard Spira to dig up dirt on one of his star players, Dave Winfield. Outfielder Mel Hall was arrested for bringing real-life cougars to the clubhouse. Around the same time, Hall entered into a relationship with a teenager and would ultimately face three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

HBO’s venerable “Real Time with Bill Maher,” survived the strike and despite a late start last fall, it continues to run new episodes on a nearly weekly basis. And while they might not be weekly, those new episodes will continue for quite a while to come, as HBO has already renewed the show through 2026.
But you probably already know about the renewal, which means you’re here because you’re wondering – is “Real Time with Bill Maher” new tonight? We have an answer for you, fear not.
And the answer is: Nope. “Real Time With Bill Maher” has taken the week off. Instead, HBO is airing a repeat of last week’s March 29 episode. But the break won’t be long — the show will be back on April 12.

One of HBO’s longest-running series ever will further extend its time on the premium cable channel.
HBO has picked up two more seasons of Real Time With Bill Maher, which will take the weekly talk show through its 24th season in 2026. The show’s current order was due to expire at the end of this year.
The renewal comes a few months after HBO also extended its other late-night staple, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, through 2026.
“Two more years in the dream job of a lifetime, on the network so many dream of being on — I think that’s what we call a no-brainer,” Maher said in a statement.
Real Time, which premiered in 2003, is second in HBO history only to the recently ended Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel in the number of seasons it has produced. Curb Your Enthusiasm’s premiere predates Real Time by three years,...

Bill Maher is getting more time for “Real Time” at HBO and its parent, Warner Bros. Discovery.
HBO has renewed the program for two more season, meaning that it will be served up via HBO and its streaming counterpart, Max, through 2026. “Two more years in the dream job of a lifetime, on the network so many dream of being on — I think that’s what we call a no-brainer,” Maher said in a statement.
The renewal keeps the acerbic comedian and commentator dishing out “New Rules” for the foreseeable future, which includes the 2024 presidential election, and, most likely, developments on issues close to Maher’s heart, including climate change, Donald Trump’s proposed political polices and liberal overreach.
“For 22 seasons and counting, Bill Maher remains a uniquely powerful voice in politics and culture. ‘Real Time’ is the rare place where people can both disagree and find common ground, which is more vital than ever,...

HBO is staying in the Bill Maher business.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cable network has renewed Real Time with Bill Maher for two more seasons. It means Maher will stay on the network through the end of 2026 and take him close to 700 episodes of the show, which launched in 2003.
It’s somewhat of an early renewal for HBO, given that his previous contract signed in September 2021 brings him through to the end of this year.
“Two more years in the dream job of a lifetime, on the network so many dream of being on – I think that’s what we call a no-brainer,” said Maher.
The move comes after the comedian caused controversy last year during the writers strike by saying that he was bringing Real Time back to air without its writing staff. On September 13, he announced that he was returning to air on September 22, but after the...

Bill Maher is the latest host to postpone his return to work.
Maher said that Real Time with Bill Maher will not, as previously planned, return to HBO on September 22.
He joins the likes of Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson and The Talk in delaying returning to the studio.
Over the weekend, a slew of hosts including Barrymore, reversed their decision to return to work, following criticism from writers and actors. Hudson made the same decision, while CBS’ The Talk also reversed course.
Last week, Maher said that he was bringing his late-night show back “sans writers”, saying that it was “time to bring people back to work”.
The WGA had called Maher’s decision “disappointing” and revealed it would picket his show.
He has now cited optimism around talks between the WGA and the AMPTP, which is set for later this week, for his change of mind.

Elvis Presley‘s death has inspired lots of interest and speculation. A famous author decided to take these true events and turn them into a horror tale that’s not for the squeamish. During an interview, the author explained the inspiration behind his story about the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

When you think of your typical “SNL” host, you probably imagine movie stars, television actors or music personalities. But did you know more than 30 athletes have hosted NBC’s late night sketch comedy series over the past five decades? Indeed, all of the biggest names in sports have graced Studio 8H for a night of laughs and gags, including Bill Russell, John Madden, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Dwayne Johnson.
While the vast majority of hosts from the world of sports have been male, three female athletes have also entertained audiences: Chris Evert, Nancy Kerrigan and Ronda Rousey. The most recent addition to the list was Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, who took his turn as emcee in March 2023. The world knows McCartney by his real name, but there have been several incidents of the former Beatle using a stage name to create more privacy. In the early days of The Beatles, the entire band experimented with stage names while on tour with Johnny Gentle. McCartney went under the name Paul Ramon, and the name eventually became the inspiration for The Ramones.
McCartney also used a fake name on Thrillington, an instrumental version of his second solo album Ram. The album was produced by McCartney and arranged by Richard Hewson, but Paul released it using the pseudonym Percy Thrillington.

Jimmy Hart remembers riding to Madison Square Garden for the first WrestleMania with Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. The last time he performed there was as a member of the Memphis band The Gentrys opening for The Beach Boys. In 1985, he was just starting out with WWE, managing top villains of the time including Valentine and King Kong Bundy. Once inside the venue, the now Hall of Famer looked at the empty seats where more than 20,000 fans would witness history. The calm before the storm. “I got such a thrill and goosebumps,” Hart recalled to TV Insider ahead of A&e’s Biography on WrestleMania. “Walking through the hallways I could see the different names on the doors where the stars were going to be. Liberace, Billy Martin, Cyndi Lauper, Muhammad Ali. The anticipation was tremendous.” The legendary manager is among those featured in the season finale of the WWE series of Legends documentaries.

‘Real Time With Bill Maher’: HBO Talk Show Brings Back Limited Audience & In-Person Roundtable Panel
Bill Maher has spent much of the last few months hearing canned laughter after his opening monologue on Real Time with Bill Maher.
This week, however, the comedian will hear the reaction of a live audience after the HBO show became the first major talk show to bring back a crowd.
This week’s episode of the show, which airs Friday at 10 pm, will tape with a limited 25-person studio audience and will also feature a roundtable discussion in the studio.
The show is thought to be the first talk show to bring back audiences following the Covid-19 production shutdown. A handful of gameshows are believed to be working on bringing in limited audiences, but it’s a sign of production slowly moving back towards how it was pre-Coronavirus.
This panel will include Peter Hamby, host of Snapchat’s political show Good Luck America and contributing writer for Vanity Fair,...

Bill Maher closed out the 500th episode of his HBO series Real Time with Bill Maher with a bruising appraisal of the Democratic Party’s feckless options for 2020 and a point-by-point explanation of why there is one (and only one) “sure-thing winner” for the opposition party: Oprah Winfrey.
“I am telling you, at this particular moment in history and in this particular election year, she is the only candidate who is a sure-thing winner for the Democrats,” Maher said, adding as an aside: “No pressure.”
Maher noted several times that he wasn’t urging Winfrey to run (he said that would be for others to do) and he expressed doubts that she would ever enter the race. And, with more exasperation than excitement, Maher explained that Winfrey’s media position and her stature with women are among the reasons she could take the White House from President Donald J. Trump.

The namesake host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher has some rules for the Democratic Party to memorize as they ramp up for a 2020 rematch with President Donald J. Trump. “I want all Democrats to memorize these two words: Message Discipline,” Maher said with the tones of a weary teacher addressing a remedial class. “Republicans win for two reasons: teamwork and cheating. And they’re really good at both.”
The 2020 presidential race, the Mueller Report, and the ongoing Trumpifcation of the national conversation were meaty topics for the night’s episode although the most memorable gag was directed at Roy Moore of Alabama and the legal limits that affect his viability as a elected public servant. “It looks like even if Roy Moore won, he would not be able to serve his term,” Maher said, “because the Senate is within one mile of a school.”

Could the constitutional crisis gripping Washington represent an attack on Democracy? It certainly seemed plausible tonight watching HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, a show hosted by a human air-raid siren of the same name. Maher’s monologue went early and often to the Washington showdown over the Mueller report and the now-sprawling political subplots that lead back to it.
“I know, It’s very exciting when you have a constitutional crisis,” Maher deadpanned about the hyped-up audience. “We’re so f—-ed. I’m telling you, we’re so f—ed. Today, Venezuela put us on the travel advisory. If America were a summer blockbuster it would be Democracy: Endgame. If you missed the earlier installments of this franchise…”

Since the super-show made its spectacular debut in 1985, WrestleMania has provided grappling fans with a multitude of memorable moments. Considered WWE’s ‘season finale’, the Showcase of Immortals is often the battleground to conclude the company’s hottest feuds, with the most anticipated match of the year reserved for the main event.
Yet WWE hasn’t always got things right. Truth be told, they’ve often got things wrong – very wrong. From racist facepaint, questionable choices of attire, dreadful singing, to just plain bad booking, the company has contrived to repeatedly gaffe on the grandest stage of all.
And consistently too, year by year…

Twitter-Wood pulled out its New York City pride today in remembrance of late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Horatio Sanz, Damon Lindelof and Michael Ian Black may all remember him for different reasons, but they all sent memorial shout-outs to him in their feeds.
A handful of "Twilight" actor posts showed up today, too, and if you read on, you can find out who calls Olivia Wilde "Muffinhead," who surprised someone with his acting abilities and who's ready for his new film "Loosies" to start filming. It's all retweeted below along with Richard Kelly's micro-review of "The Kids Are All Right."
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for July 13, 2010.
