Jazz valve trombonist, composer, and arranger best know for his group, The Boss Brass.
He is survived by his son, Brian McConnell; two daughters, Jennifer McConnell Vaandering and Robin McConnell; his brother Dan McConnell; sister Marion McConnell Bienvenue; and seven grandchildren.
He won three Grammy Awards. His last Grammy Award was awarded in 1996 for his arrangement of "I Get a Kick Out of You" with Mel Tormé, and Velvet and Brass.
