Kcet won a leading six awards on Saturday night in a livestream ceremony to bestow the 2022 Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. ABC7 and NBC4 followed with five wins apiece at the show hosted by Spectrum News 1 journalist Giselle Fernández from the Television Academy Plaza in North Hollywood.
The ceremony honored locally produced programs in the categories of Live and Breaking News Coverage, Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, the Arts, Human Interest, Sports, and the Environment.
KTLA5 won one of the big awards on the night, for Regularly Scheduled Daily Evening Newscast, for its 11 p.m. newscast. NBC4 won for morning newscast while Kvea’s Noticiero Telemundo 52 won for daytime.

Public broadcaster Kcet, which had led all local TV stations in nominations for the this year’s Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, also wound up taking home the most (for the fifth year in a row), with nine awards. It was followed by Telemundo’s Kvea and Spectrum SportsNet, both of which landed six.

The Television Academy has unveiled nominations for the 72nd Los Angeles Emmy Awards. Kcet has re-claimed the top spot with 20 nominations, followed by last year’s leader Spanish-language outlet Kmex with 15. Last year was the first time since 2015 that Kmex had led the nominations outright. Kvea is third with 13 nominations, followed by Spectrum News 1 with 12.
In all, there are 121 nominations in 33 categories including Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, the Arts, Human Interest, Sports, the Environment, and Live and Breaking News Coverage.

20th Century Fox continues to turn a profit by turning comic strip animals into movie stars. On the heels of two Garfield movies and last year's Marmaduke, Fox Animation will make a film out of "Mutts." "Mutts" is about two pets in one house -- Earl the dog and Mooch the cat -- and just how different they are. The strips creator and his brother, Patrick and Robert McDonnell, will write the script with Patrick also exec producing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick McDonnell also signed on to executive produce the film. Patrick McDonnell created Mutts in 1994, a series of comic adventures featuring a dog named Earl, and a cat named Mooch as well as their fellow animal pals in their neighborhood including the orphan kitty Shtinky Puddin’ and the feral alley cat Noodles and their human guardians Ozzie, Millie and Frank. Since ’94, the Mutts comic strip topped over 700 newspapers in over 20 countries in addition to the 2007 book The Best of Mutts.
