In 1992, comic book writer and artist Todd McFarlane created a new superhero character called Spawn. Five years later, director Mark A.Z. Dippé and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy brought Spawn to the screen in a PG-13 rated movie that didn’t go over well with a lot of fans. There were rumblings of a sequel for years after that, but nothing ever happened. Back around 2005, McFarlane announced he was going to make sure a new Spawn movie was going to be made, even if he had to produce, direct, and finance it himself. For nearly twenty years, he has been slowly pushing that project forward… but there is some level of hope that we might finally see the new Spawn sometime in 2025, so we figured we should put together a list of Everything We Know About the Spawn Reboot.

If there's one actress whose name is synonymous with the "Halloween" franchise, created by director John Carpenter in 1978, it's Jamie Lee Curtis. If there's another, it's Danielle Harris. Curtis holds the record for most "Halloween" movie appearances with six film, not counting archival footage, and the late Donald Pleasance is in five (though his likeness was used in the new "Halloween" trilogy). Harris, however, appearing in four "Halloween" movies, is the only actress to play two different characters in the franchise, and she did so by never taking no for an answer. When conditions were wrong, she walked, and when arbitrary directorial edicts threatened to block her, she acted her way back in with the best audition.
Harris was a young child when she first encountered Michael Myers. What happened to that little girl? She grew up, but she never stopped working. These days, she's a mother in real life,...

After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

Ah the early 2000s. The Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube were the hottest videogame consoles around. Limp Bizkit, Smash Mouth, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, and Usher were ruling the airwaves and little did we know we would be blessed with tons of horror video game movie adaptations as well. Granted, some weren’t that great, looking at you House of the Dead, Doom and Alone in the Dark. But there also were some fun films from this genre…Silent Hill and Resident Evil. At the time, both weren’t exactly loved by critics, but they did have their fans and have each spawned sequels. Today, we’re looking at the first Resident Evil (watch it Here) on this episode of Horror Revisited.

The episode of Revisited covering Wrong Turn 2: Dead End was Written by Emilie Black, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Narrated by Niki Minter, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
A long, long time ago, in a state deep in the woods, a bunch of people were eaten by cannibal hillbillies in a film called Wrong Turn. Soon, the locals to where the film was taking place got very angry about the depiction of their fellow mountain and wood residents, which they thought gave them a bad name. Horror fans responded by seeing the film anyways, making it a minor hit. The first film had a budget of $12.6 million and made $28.7 million at the box office. While this may lead to a sequel at times, it was not a given. Fast forward to 4 years later and we are gifted with the first of a long series of sequels.

The Wrong Turn franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, with that original backwoods horror movie in 2003 spawning six follow-up films to date. The first five sequels were direct-to-video installments that became the very definition of “diminishing returns” – beyond Joe Lynch’s standout Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, that is – and the most recent installment was a reboot that came along in 2021. Directed by Mike P. Nelson, Wrong Turn completely freed itself from the past, and as a result was the best film since the original.
So what’s next for the Wrong Turn franchise? Speaking with Entertainment Weekly for a must-read 20th anniversary retrospective piece that just went up this week, Wrong Turn creator Alan B. McElroy reveals that he’d like to make two sequels to the reboot. McElroy wrote the script to the 2021 movie, the first time he was directly involved in any of the follow-ups.

Today, May 30th, marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the backwoods slasher movie Wrong Turn, and to celebrate Entertainment Weekly has published an article that looks back at the making of the film, from the real-life moment that inspired Alan B. McElroy to write the screenplay (he and his wife were stuck in a winter traffic jam and decided to take a side road detour) through the hiring of Rob Schmidt to direct the film (he chose it over a Hellraiser sequel), the casting of the killers, and the tricks Stan Winston’s FX team did on the set. The article also gives a nod to the five sequels that followed – and to the 2021 reboot, which was also written by McElroy. While being interviewed, McElroy mentioned that he’s hoping to make two sequels to the reboot.

David Gordon Green's "Halloween Ends" caps what is known as the "H40" trilogy, breathing new life into the Michael Myers-centered "Halloween" franchise that has chugged along since John Carpenter's original horror film in 1978.
In the new trilogy, Myers — or The Shape, as he was referred to in Carpenter and Debra Hill's script for the o.g. "Halloween" — has returned to the town of Haddonfield with the same unquenchable bloodlust he's held across decades, fought Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode and the townspeople (all of this over the events of Green's "Halloween" and "Halloween Kills"), and now holes up underground to nurse his wounds. Green, along with co-writers Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier, brings back beloved legacy characters like Strode, who once again heads into battle with the masked psychopath who attacked her and killed her friends four decades ago. The Resident Evil franchise is responsible for some of the most chilling moments in interactive media, forcing players to confront man-eating biohazards since the mid 90s. This massive success is ongoing, with new sequels and remakes releasing pretty much every year, but what I think is amazing is that this series of games with little to no regard for conventional storytelling is somehow the franchise that spawned seven big-screen adaptations, a handful of animated films and a short-lived TV show. Meanwhile, there’s still no sign of that Metal Gear Solid movie!
Don’t get me wrong, the Resident Evil games boast plenty of memorable characters with interesting backstories, but these titles have always been more about the player-driven narrative derived from personally outsmarting Umbrella and escaping horrific situations rather than any cohesive yarn. That’s why it’s no surprise that the first Resident Evil movie actually has very...

The Halloween franchise gets a lot of attention during the month of October, and while fans are revisiting the past films and watching the new one, Halloween Ends (read our review Here), in theatres and on the Peacock streaming service, we decided this was a good time to dig into the making of one of the Halloween films with a new episode of our Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series. The movie being covered this time around is my personal favorite of the sequels, 1988’s Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (watch it Here) – and you can find out all about the film’s development and production by checking out the video embedded above!

A decade after Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) set himself and Michael Myers ablaze at the end of "Halloween II," a comatose Michael Myers finally awakes during an ambulance transfer from Ridgemont Federal Sanitarium back to Smith's Grove Sanitarium in 1988's "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers." The trigger: overhearing ambulance personnel reveal that he has a living relative. Jamie Lloyd, his niece and daughter of Laurie Strode (played by Jaime Lee Curtis in the first two films) lives with foster parents in Myers' hometown of Haddonfield Il. Consequentially, he returns to kill her.
I'm that one hard-to-please "Halloween" fan who unfairly compares any sequel and remake to John Carpenter's 1978's masterpiece. My qualms with "Halloween 4" primarily lie with The Shape. The masked, mechanic suit-wearing Michael Myers played by George P. Wilber neither looked nor moved like Nick Castle's portrayal of the character from the original. Plus, the...

To say that remakes suck is very easy to say. There are plenty of examples to show just how classics should not be touched. Remakes have their place in the world of film though, and help new people discover films they never knew existed. Then a movie comes along like Wrong Turn that makes the brave step of being different and being surprisingly good.

My synopsis of the film is brief and not highly informative for a point, and that is that this is a movie you really need to go into cold.

After almost 20 years, the Wrong Turn franchise is returning to theaters. 2003’s Eliza Dushku-fronted slasher flick became a sleeper hit that spawned five – yes, five – straight-to-dvd sequels. The last installment released back in 2014, but the series has been rebooted now and you can catch the seventh entry next month.
In 2021’s Wrong Turn, Charlotte Vega stars as Jen, who embarks on a hike along the Appalachian Trail with her friends. Unfortunately, and despite dire warnings to stick to the path, the gang soon veers off course and crosses into the land belonging to The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who will protect their way of life at any cost. Since the first one came out in 2003, we've seen six movies released in the Wrong Turn franchise (with Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2: Dead End still one of my favorite horror sequels ever), and early next year the cannibal franchise will be rebooted with a new Wrong Turn, which is teased in its official trailer ahead of its January release.
Directed by Mike P. Nelson from a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy (writer of 2003's Wrong Turn), the new Wrong Turn stars Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, and Matthew Modine.
The trailer (see below) was exclusively debuted by Entertainment Weekly's Clark Collis, who reports that the film will be released for one night only in theaters on January 26th via Saban Films and Fathom Events.

Saban Films has acquired the rights to two titles from Munich-based “Resident Evil” producer Constantin Film.
The deals include North American and U.K. rights to the adventure thriller “Tides,” directed by Tim Fehlbaum, and North American rights to director Mike P. Nelson’s anticipated horror reboot, “Wrong Turn.”
Mister Smith Entertainment is handling worldwide sales on both Constantin titles this week at the virtual American Film Market, where the titles will be screening for buyers.
“Tides” marks the second film from Swiss-born director Fehlbaum, who burst to attention with his debut feature “Hell,” another sci-fi thriller.
Set in a not-too-distant future, “Tides” follows an elite female astronaut from Space Colony Kepler who is shipwrecked on a decimated Earth after a global catastrophe has wiped out nearly all of humanity. She must make a decision that will seal the fate of the Earth’s populace.

The Domestics director Mike P. Nelson’s Wrong Turn reboot is coming soon. And today we learned the film has been slapped with a (not surprising) R-rating via the MPAA for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, and pervasive language.” Also, it seems the film’s called Wrong Turn not Wrong Turn: The Foundation. [To celebrate the release of their new book, Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels, authors Dustin McNeill & Travis Mullins share the top 10 craziest cameos from lost Halloween sequels that were never filmed in this special guest article!]
As is, the Halloween franchise isn’t much known for its cameos. Sure, you’ve got Weird Al and Chris Hardwick in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, but otherwise they’re more subtle—like Pj Soles as the voice of the teacher in 2018’s Halloween. Not that the filmmakers haven’t tried for more ambitious guest appearances over the years. From Howard Stern to Mike Myers, they definitely have! It’s just that these ideas—and sometimes, even their respective films—haven’t all panned out.
In writing our newest book—Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels—we’ve discovered a handful of surprising cameo suggestions tossed around. In honor of the book’s release, gathered here are the ten wildest “lost sequel” cameo ideas from the Halloween films that never were.

The Wrong Turn series, featuring mutant cannibals hunting unsuspecting travellers in the mountains of West Virginia using an assortment of improvised traps and weaponry, is a franchise that even some hardcore horror fans are surprised to learn is still going. Nevertheless, the seventh installment The Foundation might possibly be getting a release soon.
All movie releases are currently variable due to, well, everything, and director Mike P. Nelson was recently asked about whether we would see the film any time soon. Here’s what he had to say:
“I honestly have very little news, but I can say we just completely finished the movie this past week and it is wild! The next steps will be in the hands of our distributor.”
So, while there’s no official date for the movie’s release, that it’s a finished product goes a long way to its appearance coming sooner rather than later,...

, Brad Anderson’s “Fractured” isn’t the first modern riff on “The Lady Vanishes” — not even close — but it’s one of the few that finds a compelling new backdrop for that Agatha Christie-esque tale of conspiracy and gaslighting. Whereas a film like “Flightplan” merely elevated Alfred Hitchcock’s locomotive mystery onto an airplane, “Fractured” sews the story into the knotted fabric of the American healthcare system, a curious wrinkle that helps to endow some (very) familiar beats with a fresh palette of anxieties.
“What if a random old woman disappeared on a train?” is now “what if someone’s wife and daughter were digested into the bowels of an understaffed hospital, any evidence of their existence hidden beneath the layers of payments, paperwork, and insurance legalese that drive people in this country to the brink of madness every day?” Alas, the script (by “Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever” scribe...

Avatar star Sam Worthington headlines Fractured, a Netflix movie with a mind-bending mystery.
Fractured is part of a slate of fall season horror (and horror-adjacent) film offerings from Netflix; in this case, a mystery movie brandishing a tinge of Twilight Zone-esque themes that question the reality of its embattled protagonist played by headliner Sam Worthington.
Indeed, the film found an appropriate helmer in The Machinist director Brad Anderson, providing a rather appropriate thematic juxtaposition to the morosely surreal 2004 thriller, as Worthington plays a man who, upon the disappearance of his wife and young daughter in a hospital emergency room, discovers that their existence has seemingly been erased from the memories and records of the staff.

Last week, we heard news that Constantin Film are at work on a new entry in the Wrong Turn horror series, and now Deadline has come through with a few fresh details.
Apparently, the project is going to be a remake of the 2003 original, and back on script duties will be the first film’s scribe, Alan B. McElroy. What’s more, it’s suggested that this upcoming release will contain a fair bit more social commentary than we’re used to seeing in this surprisingly sustainable franchise, with an early synopsis reported to read as follows:
“The updated version is described as a timely and topical meditation on society and its issues. A cross-country hiking expedition puts a group of friends in the land of an inclusive society, where they soon discover they are under a different rule of law, and may not be the victims they thought they were.

Regardless, Deadline reports that the Fox-distributed Wrong Turn slasher series is coming back to the forefront, thanks to original company Constantin Films, which has tapped franchise creator Alan B. Like The Marine franchise, which featured a new WWE superstar in the lead role in each consecutive film, The Condemned 2 sees Randy Orton (who also took over the lead from John Cena for 12 Rounds 2) stars as bounty hunter turned hunted man, Will Tanner; and – like Orton’s 12 Rounds 2 – this film pales in comparison to the original, abandoning everything that made that Running Man-esque action film so much fun.
The Condemned was one of WWE Studios earliest – and best received – movies, alongside The Marine and See No Evil. And whilst those two films have already had sequels, it’s taken almost ten years for someone to put together a sequel to the Stone Cold Steve Austin starring original.

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.
