Gary Sweet and Rachel Griffiths in ‘House Husbands.’
Gary Sweet will play a fictional version of himself in a six-part comedy which is being developed by Rachel Griffiths and writer/actor Maddie Dyer.
In Saving Gary Sweet, the former House Husbands star will play a troubled TV actor who has been married four times and ends up in hospital after a drug and alcohol binge.
Griffiths discussed the project today in conversation with Denise Eriksen in Running Free Skills, a webinar presented by Acmi, Film Victoria and Media Monitors.
She got the idea when she co-starred with Sweet in House Husbands after having a number of dreams in which she “saved” Ben Affleck.
The premise has Sweet as a TV actor whose career is derailed after a video of him bagging his co-star in a procedural cop show while doing cocaine with an underage girl goes viral.

Lydia Lassila and Katie Bender.
Katie Bender's documentary about aerial skier Lydia Lassila premiered last Tuesday.
The event was organised by Bender herself, a former teammate of Lassila.
"One of the biggest nightmares [of being independent] is not having a marketing team, doing events, managing the event sponsors", said Bender. "It takes up so much time".
In the making since 2012, The Will to Fly was rejected by Australian distributors as a niche film about aerial skiing.
After the film was locked, it was picked up by Hoyts this month..
Bender also had a preexisting relationship with Rebel Sport, and the two have now joined forces.
"Hoyts is now placing this film in all of the big malls around Australia that have Rebel stores and a Hoyts, so they can do cross-promotions together", Bender said.

In this roundup from the Encore and Mumbrella Annual, we revisit the year’s biggest TV hits.
1. The Voice
With at least three singing shows having come before it on Aussie TV, The Voice was going to have to do something spectacular to deliver a ratings hit. The show debuted with 2.177m viewers with the finale attracting an average metro audience of 3.098m according to OzTam. No other show on the box this year came close to matching the overall performance across the series with most episodes hovering around the 2m viewer mark.
2. Puberty Blues
Ten may have had a year to forget but one shining light in the network’s line-up was Southern Star-produced drama Puberty Blues. Whether it was the story, based on the 1970s novel of the same name, the performance of the cast or attention to detail that made this show a hit, it consistently delivered around one million views.

Triple M's Hot Breakfast: down to 6.2% share
Triple M took a hit in the Melbourne radio ratings, falling further than any other station.
The Southern Cross Austereo station’s share fell from 7.5% to 6.2%, and was overtaken by Arn’s Mix101.1, which continued the momentum in the last survey to increase its share from 7.4% to 7.6%, Gold and Nova100.
Worryingly, Triple M fell furthest in the key advertising time slots of breakfast and drive and in age demographics 18-24 and 40-54. Triple M’s Hot Breakfast is hosted by Eddie McGuire.
Craig Bruce, Sca head of content commented: “We saw some of that coming from the previous results. I think the Olympics haven’t helped in terms of consistency. But we’re pretty confident we can turn that around in survey 6 with the Afl finals.”
However, the ratings period ended before the Olympics began, running from Sunday 6 May to Saturday 9 June, and Sunday 24 June to Saturday 28 July.

Triple M’s Melbourne breakfast show The Hot Breakfast have pulled off a near exclusive by getting rock star Prince to do a live radio interview.
The show – presented by Eddie McGuire, Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy – got through the switchboard at the hotel where Prince is staying after being tipped off by one of his dancers on the pseudonym he was checked in as. They woke him up and bantered with him on air for around six minutes before he eventually hung up.
Audio of the interview (courtesy of Triple M):
The musician is notoriously shy and almost never gives interviews.

The London Olympics will be available to free to air viewers in HD, Nine has revealed.
The announcement came as part of Nine’s launch event for its first coverage of the Games since winning the rights from Seven. The Olympics begin in late July and run into August.
In common with rivals Seven and Ten, Nine’s main channel is in standard definition only. But for the duration of the games, it will be simulcasting with Gem which is in high definition.
Meanwhile, partly because of the time difference with the UK, Nine’s Olympics will be on virtually around the clock.
This includes competition coverage from 6.30pm through the night to 9am. This will then be followed by a two hours highlights compilation which will also air again in the afternoon.
