A 27-year-old Tyra Banks was elated when she landed the role of Zoe, the no-nonsense bartender in “Coyote Ugly.” Although there weren’t high expectations for the movie, which starred a cast of mostly unknowns who play rowdy dancers at a seedy bar, the movie became a sleeper summer hit for Touchstone Pictures, grossing $60 million domestically on a $45 million budget. The female-led cast — including Piper Perabo — were featured on billboards and posters and the soundtrack went multi-platinum, with the help of LeAnn Rimes and songwriter Diane Warren.
Now, Banks tells Variety that she’s been lobbying for years for a sequel. “I’ve had a passion to do a sequel to ‘Coyote Ugly’ for some time now. I’ve even reached out to [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer and the team and the original writer and they’ve had some jam sessions on what it could possibly be,” Banks says. “I feel like...

Coyote Ugly turned 15 years old this past August, just in case you weren't feeling old enough today. Strangely enough, the dramedy cult classic - which centers on sexy New York bartenders with aspirations of fame - was almost decidedly different, due to some unused writing contributions from Kevin Smith. Director David McNally recently opened up regarding Smith.s unused draft: (It was) terrific (but) pretty raunchy, (and) missing an emotional element to the relationship thing. This quote comes from The Hollywood Reporter, in which McNally . accompanied by several other members of the film.s creative team . discussed the process of bringing Coyote Ugly to the big screen. He gives Smith credit for writing a wonderful film, but relents that he did not give enough of an "emotional element" to the film.s relationship storyline. After the project went through numerous rewrites under different writers, Catch Me If You Can writer...

Talking with The Hollywood Reporter in celebration of Coyote Ugly's 15th anniversary back in August, the film's crew discussed, among other hot topics (Kevin Smith penning an early draft of the script, for starters), that Jessica Simpson was a viable "contender" for the role of heroine Violet Sanford. "We did our due diligence and saw everybody," said director David McNally, who noted that Jewel was also up for the roll before it ultimately wound up going to newbie thespian Piper Perabo. "Toward the end of the process, Piper walked in," McNally continued. "She was actually from New Jersey and seemed to get it." He added, "everyone loved" her screen test, and "that was the end of that." Five years later, Simpson would gain notoriety for her official film debut as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, so it's good that she still had an opportunity to be filmed in tiny shorts.

This summer marks a very special anniversary. It’s fair to say we all remembered what took place on August 4, 2000. On that most likely quiet and peaceful summer day, one film dominated the cultural conversation, a true game changer unlike any other film of its kind. For years people had been asking, “What is this Coyote Ugly? Is it more than just some bar at the New York, New York hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada?” Kangaroo Jack director David McNally finally answered that question with his unconventional story of a small town girl trying to make it in the big city with Coyote Ugly. That picture co-starred Melanie Lynskey as Gloria, the young girl’s best friend. Needless to say, it’s not Lynskey’s best film — that honor goes to The Informant, which is her personal favorite as well — but it was the last film I watched of Lynskey’s before speaking with her at SXSW...

It’s only right that we consider the possibilities to be the next permanent manager of Norwich City. The Canaries have been on a poor run of form of late, so speculation has suggested that a change of management may well be in the offering. Chief executive David McNally recently took part in an interview with BBC Sport where he discussed the future of the manager.
One of the things that came out of that discussion was at least the suggestion that other managers are being monitored in case the club feel that need to make such a change. As is common with this sort of slideshow strong opinions, betting odds from Odds Checker and stats from Who Scored will all be utilized.

It’s proving to be another tense week to be a Norwich City fan even if the team weren’t in action this past weekend. The Canaries seem to be moving closer and closer to the relegation zone after each game, which ramps up the speculation on Chris Hughton.
An interview that Norwich City chief executive David McNally did with BBC Sport has been widely reported by the mainstream media. I think it’s fair to say that a lot of his comments have been taken out of context, but fans are certainly going to continue to debate the future of the manager.
This is the second of my slideshows that aims to debate both sides of the argument. I have already published my thoughts on why the manager should be sacked, so this is instead a look at the reasons it might be sensible to keep faith with him.

Beleagured Norwich boss Chris Hughton has rubbished suggestions that Irish international midfielder Wes Hoolahan will be allowed to leave Carrow Road this January, according to Irish state broadcaster RTÉ.
The 31-year-old midfielder was the subject of interest from former boss and current Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, but Hughton has stated firmly that the player won’t be allowed to leave this transfer window.
The former Irish international said this when questioned about a possible Hoolahan departure;
At the moment our concentration is on can we add to the squad, can we improve the squad, not on letting players go out. We’ve had a few injuries especially in midfield, and then Michael Turner will be out for a while as well. We are trying as hard as we can (to sign players) the same as everybody else, but January is a notoriously bad time to bring in players.

Let’s face it. We can’t hide it. We all have those movies that we like that others would shun. These are guilty pleasures: the ones that aren’t that great but we love for some reason or another. Here are mine. Be sure to list yours in the comments, if you’d like.
Last Action Hero (1993)
Rotten Tomatoes: 38%
Actors: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O’Brien, F. Murray Abraham, Art Carney, Charles Dance
Director: John McTiernan/Writers: Shane Black and David Arnott
Here’s the thing: I will defend this movie’s concept till Doomsday. A movie about a kid with a magic ticket that gets pulled into an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie? Genius concept. Yes, the kid is annoying. Yes, the movie doesn’t reach the heights of a McTiernan/Black team-up as well as one might think. It’s interesting to note that McTiernan isn’t working as much...

"Hell No! H20!" That's the unexpectedly avant garde rallying cry of Maria Bello's maître d' in the ambitiously populist and envisionating 2000 film, Coyote Ugly, a film that reminds us of a time not too long ago before effete and obscure auteurs began hiding behind their CGI gimcrackery and dialog-ridden scripts steeped in superhero fantasy. Coyote Ugly reintroduces the idea of cinema as it was originally conceived -- as a way to appeal to and enrich every viewer's eye-born aesthetic instinct -- before a concentration on nature, physiognomy, and elitist sophistication forced the medium to explode upon itself. Bello's character, Lil, may as well have been spraying aqua pura on the fiery remains of a dying art form, breathing one last gasp into the medium before the eraironic of fake populism besotted us with the fitful gags and digital playthings of directors like Christopher Nolan. Indeed, Coyote Ugly was a...

Publisher's Note: A few days after appearing on the Slashfilm Podcast, New York Press movie critic, Armond White, was nice enough to present us with his review of a movie he considers to be an overlooked classic, Jerry Bruckheimer's Coyote Ugly.
