An area next to Austria's national theater, the Vienna Burgtheater, was
named "Josef-Meinrad-Platz" in 1997 to commemorate the renowned stage
actor.
While he was type casted as cunning servant or subordinate in his
younger years, he later often played the "civil nobleman".
As his parents wanted him to become a priest, he visited a seminary
until 1929.
