Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was not only one of the biggest movies that came out in 2023 but it was also one of the movies that managed to sweep the most during the award season. Oppenheimer won the Best Picture award at the 96th Academy Awards held on March 10th, 2024 along with Nolan winning the Best Director award.
Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer became the third highest-grossing movie of 2023. One of the most significant things about Oppenheimer is the alternative scenes between colored and black and white to convey the story from both subjective and objective perspectives. Now, fans are curious about Nolan’s next big project and according to reports, it’s the one he left behind in 2009.

“Maestro” brought together three filmmakers — the sophomore director Bradley Cooper and the screen masters Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese — as producers. “Maestro” chronicles the marriage of famed composer Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) and his muse Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). You can catch this acclaimed films in cinemas before it starts streaming on Netflix on Dec. 20. Either way, you’re in for a treat.

Editors note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series highlights the scripts of films that will be factors in this year’s movie awards race.
Judd Apatow, Saturday Night Live writer Dave Sirus and Pete Davidson came together to pen the script for The King of Staten Island, the dramatic comedy based on Davidson’s life that became one of the first summer movies to bypass theaters for homes during the pandemic.
The plot centers on Davidson’s Scott, a twentysomething still dealing with the death of his firefighter father and chasing an unrealistic dream of becoming a tattoo artist – one that pales in comparison to the ambitions of his younger sister (Maude Apatow). Still living with his ER nurse mother (Marisa Tomei), Scott spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley.)

The Wallflowers’ 1996 hit “One Headlight” wasn’t just a song choice that set a mood for the trailer of “The King of Staten Island.” It appears in the film itself, in a quick but telling barroom scene that gets at how near-strangers can bond over music… even if it’s music they don’t quite remember well enough to proficiently sing along with.
It might seem as if any oldie could have sufficed for a comic singalong moment, but for both leading man Pete Davidson and director Judd Apatow, it had personal meaning that made it the song for Davidson and his new fireman friends to join in belting.
“That song was very popular when Pete was young, and he would listen to it in the car with his dad all the time,” Apatow tells Variety. “It is a very special song to him.”

Pete Davidson’s “The King of Staten Island” character isn’t much of a stretch for the “SNL” star. In the upcoming Judd Apatow flick, Davidson plays an inked-up young man whose firefighter father died in the early 2000s. Sadly, Davidson’s real-life dad, a first responder and a fireman, died on 9/11.
In the Apatow comedy, Davidson’s (mostly) ficticious Scott lives with his mom (Marisa Tomei) in the least-sexy borough of New York City. That location — and stage of life — should sound familiar to Davidson fans.
Here’s the film’s synopsis: Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. Judd Apatow has been out of the movie directing game for the last few years, as he has focused on some TV projects. The last big screen direction we saw from him was the 2015 Amy Schumer comedy, Trainwreck, which was hilarious and a big boost for Schumer’s career.
Apatow is now teaming up with SNL’s Pete Davidson for a comedy that will look to do the same for him. Davidson wrote the script with Apatow and Dave Sirus, and Davidson will star in what will be a semi-autobiographical comedy about his life growing up in Staten Island, New York.
Davidson lost his father as a child on September 11th, 2001, and started doing stand-up as a teenager in New York, landing SNL as one of the youngest cast members in the show’s history when he was just 20. His comedy is truthful and raw, and usually based on controversial subjects.

Judd Apatow has set his next feature film, an untitled comedy that will star Saturday Night Live castmember Pete Davidson. It will reflect a storyline that mirrors the comic’s own life, including his firefighter father on 9/11. It’s Apatow’s first film since Trainwreck, a vehicle crafted for Amy Schumer.
Davidson has a lot of potential, and even more baggage. A whirlwind romance with Ariana Grande led to a high profile engagement and an equally high profile breakup. Davidson separately drew the ire of conservatives when he poked fun at the eyepatch of former Seal turned Republican congressman Dan Crenshaw, who lost his eye in an explosion in Afghanistan. Byrne revealed that she had her own music obsession back in the day. Her dad took her to five Kylie Minogue concerts when she was a pre-teen. “I am from Australia...

Usually when rock stars talk of their wasted lives they mean something entirely different than what’s at the plot of Jesse Peretz’s Juliet, Naked, the critically charmed new rom-com based on the novel by Nick Hornby.
This new trailer for the August 17 release sets up the rock & roll anti-debauchery tale sweetly: Rose Byrne’s Annie is stuck in a long-term relationship with Chris O’Dowd’s Duncan, an obsessive fan of a long-missing obscure American rock star named Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). Tucker, long sober, feels like he’s wasted the last non-creative years of his life, and when the acoustic demo of Tucker’s 25-year-old hit record surfaces, and Annie writes a harshly critical review, the rocker himself comes out of hiding to praise her insight – and talk second chances for all involved.
Peretz directs from a screenplay by Evgenia Peretz and Jim Taylor & Tamara Jenkins,...

In his speech, Nanjiani thanked producers Judd Apatow and Barry Mendel and director Michael Showalter.

The Producers Guild of America gave out their top film prizes this weekend. The PGA is often indicative of which movie will win Best Picture on Oscar night.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missourihas been sweeping the awards race so far this year, but it looks like the edge may be given over to The Shape of Water, which won the coveted PGA on Saturday night. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is the film's biggest competition for a Best Picture Oscar at this rate. To no-one's surprise, Coco won in the animated category and it's a surefire lock for the Animated Feature prize at the Oscars.

“Get Out” producer Sean McKittrick says he failed to convince writer-director Jordan Peele to take a pivotal role in his $250 million-grossing debut. “We tried to force him — not force him, but we tried to encourage him to play the part of Rod that was ultimately played by Lil Rel [Howery],” said McKittrick during a panel at the Producers Guild of America Nominees Breakfast on January 20.

Peele, then best-known for his work on the Comedy Central series “Key and Peele,” declined, stipulating, “‘The moment the audience sees my face, they’re not going to take [the film] seriously,'” said McKittrick, a partner at QC Entertainment. “He knew from the get-go how to keep the tone, which was very thin-ice throughout, it could veer off at any moment.”

Since being forced out as Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman three years ago, Amy Pascal has quickly found her footing as a producer, having produced two of the films that have been nominated for the Producers Guild of America’s Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures Award this year — The Post and Molly’s Game.
And when producer Barry Mendel, a nominee for The Big Sick, asked her at Saturday morning’s annual PGA Nominees breakfast what she’s learned as a producer that she didn’t know as a studio executive, Pascal answered bluntly, “Everything you think you knew as a studio executive is...

The Producers Guild of America hands out its awards on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. That is the night before the Screen Actors Guild does the same. Unlike, the latter, which will air on TNT and TBS, the PGA ceremony is not televised. However, it is an equally important stop on the road to the Oscars.
The PGA Awards has an enviable track record at presaging the eventual Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. The guild and the academy have agreed on 19 of the most recent 28 Best Picture champs. Last year, all nine Oscar nominees for Best Picture numbered among the 10 PGA contenders; only “Deadpool” was snubbed by the academy. The PGA prize went to “La La Land” while the Oscar was (eventually) won by “Moonlight.”

Moments ago, the Producers Guild of America announced their nominees, to go along with yesterday’s nominations by the Art Directors Guild and the Writers Guild of America. Having this troika of guilds is an important moment in the awards season, especially with the flashier Golden Globe ceremony just two days away. With just the Directors Guild of America still to announce, a solid portion of the precursors that matter for the major categories have had their say, nomination wise at least. Academy Award voting is getting underway too, so this information is vital. By next week, many voters will have made their ultimate choices and submitted ballots. This trio of precursors has helped establish some films as potentially sitting pretty with Oscar. The Adg nominations basically just narrowed the field to 15 in Best Production Design, give or take a few. The WGA nominations gave I, Tonya a big boost,...
