Twenty years after winning a DGA award for The West Wing in the Dramatic Series category, guild president Thomas Schlamme found himself winning again tonight for the Aaron Sorkin series in the Variety/Talk/News/Sports – Specials slot.
Schlamme won for directing the HBO Max Oct. 15 reunion A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote. The special repped the first time in 17 years that the original cast of the Emmy- and Peabody Award–winning hit drama series came together with Sorkin and Schlamme for a special theatrical stage presentation of the “Hartsfield’s Landing” episode from the show’s third season. The West Wing stars Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Rob Lowe, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford, and Martin Sheen reprised their roles from the episode. Additionally, the special had special guest appearance act breaks by When We All Vote co-chair Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 22: “Sos Part 2”
Written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
Audiences should consider themselves warned that “Sos”, the two-part season 2 finale of Agents of Shield, does not mess around. Five named characters (plus two very unlucky Shield redshirts) die, Coulson loses his forearm like Ash from Evil Dead, and Simmons is dragged off, Drag Me to Hell-style, by that mysterious Kree stone. (Did the writers have a Sam Raimi marathon just before writing this episode?) A few storylines get resolved, like the May-Dr. Garner relationship and Cal protecting Skye, but there is also a lot of set-up for season 3 in the midst of this epic showdown between Shield and Jiaying. For everything it is setting up, however,...

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s two-part finale offered gigantic scale, future teases and a satisfying end to season 2…

2.21 & 2.22 S.O.S
Since I took over reviewing Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. a couple of months ago, analysing it more than I ever did as a just-for-fun viewer, I’ve realised one thing: this show really has improved. Even the episodes I’ve complained about seem like necessary evils when considering the big ballsy finale they were building to.
Indeed, it's with great relief that I can sit here and report that S.O.S. is a satisfying end to the season. It hasn’t always been the case, but S.O.S. truly felt like a Marvel Studios product. It was stuffed to the brim with interesting powers, engaging action and quip-happy characters, who even got some development. If you like Marvel movies, you’ll probably like this. It...

Agent Carter, Season 1, Episode 7, “Snafu”
Written by Chris Dingess
Directed by Vincent Misiano
Airs at 9pm (Et) on Tuesdays on ABC
The penultimate episode of Agent Carter’s debut season spends a lot of time running in place, moving the pieces around to make sure everyone is in position for what is sure to be an action-packed finale. While some of this is surely necessary, like the slow reveal of Dottie and Ivchenko’s plan or the redemption of Peggy Carter in the eyes of the Ssr, this episode does more to stall the second half of the season’s momentum than it does to build excitement for the final installment. This is a glorified bottle episode with only a few scenes taking place outside the Ssr office, a money saving tactic presumably applied here to allow for a more explosive episode next week, and all of the emotional beats...

Plot:
When a Woman is found dead with the alien writing carved into her body, Coulson goes back into the Memory Machine to find his lost memories of Tahiti and figure out who it’s other patients were. Meanwhile May leads Trip, Bobbi and Hunter as they close in on Ward.
Verdict:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. really has come leaps and bounds in the last seven episodes compared to what they achieved in twenty two episodes during it’s previous season (in which the last several were improvements on what came before them), with ‘The Writing on the Wall’ showing just how confident and exciting this series has become in such a short span of time.

Ward, Skye’s father, Tahiti, and the pattern that Coulson keeps drawing are all connected, but the team needs more time to figure it out. Unfortunately, Coulson is running out of time, with his compulsions driving him to sleepless nights and madness. The clue that they need to solve his madness is found in the mystery of the week, which revolves around a former Shield agent who’s found murdered, with Coulson’s pattern carved into her flesh.

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 1, “Shadows”
Written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen
Directed by Vincent Misiano
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm Et on ABC
Season one of Agents of Shield ends with Fitz recovering from nearly drowning, Coulson taking on the task of rebuilding Shield, and the remaining loyal agents of Shield on the run from the over-zealous Brigadier General Glenn Talbot. It only stands to reason that season two would open in Austria, 1945, with Agent Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos taking out the final Hydra base. Agent Carter orders that Hydra’s collection of artifacts be taken into custody and locked away from folks who want to tinker with them, including Howard Stark. (Don’t forget to watch Agent Carter, coming soon to ABC!)
The big new bad guy introduced in “Shadows” is Carl Creel, a super-villain who can touch a material and then transform his skin into that material.

After five decidedly hit-and-miss episodes and a week off the air, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has come back with “F.Z.Z.T.”, possibly the strongest and definitely the most emotionally engaging entry to the series so far, though reminders of the limitations of bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen are still never far away , as evidenced in this week’s (relatively few) action sequences.
The central mystery of the episode has Coulson and his team trying to puzzle out how a camp leader and firefighter ended up dead and floating six feet off the ground.
The detective work from the agents is fairly rote and it’s quickly discovered that the culprit is not a murderer targeting members of a fireman team who were in New York during the Chitauri invasion...

“Fzzt” opens with a ghost story, and in a way, it ends with one too. The plot comes back around to New York and the invasion in The Avengers thanks to the episode’s threat, a virus carried to Earth by the Chitauri. This type of Marvel Universe connectivity is something many viewers have been hoping for since the beginning of the season. Rather than vaguely referencing the events of The Avengers, writer Paul Zbyszewski brings the action around to New York in an unexpected way, grappling with something that the Marvel movies so far have missed. New York was a victory for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers, but it was a victory with casualties. There are obvious parallels to the volunteers who worked tirelessly in the rescue efforts at...
