Sometimes one new technological innovation can change the world, and sometimes you need to play in the underground to get it started. Crackle’s new original series “StartUp” follows a group of Miami underdog techies — intelligent financier Nick Talman (Adam Brody), unorthodox tech whiz Izzy Morales (Otmara Marrero), and Haitian gang leader Ronald Dacey (Edi Gathegi) — who form an unexpected partnership to get a great idea off the ground, even though they’re founded on dirty money. Meanwhile, FBI agent Phil Rask (Martin Freeman) is hot on their trail, and he’s willing to travel deep into the Miami underbelly to take them down. The series also stars Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld) and Aaron Yoo (“Blacklist”),and is produced by Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions. Watch an exclusive clip from “StartUp” featuring Izzy explaining her idea of GenCoin, a new currency free of corruption.

Television viewers know Milo Ventimiglia well from such projects as NBC's "Heroes" and TNT's "Mob City," but when he's not working in front of the camera, he's behind it, as a producer. One of his projects is the original digital series "Chosen," currently in its second season at Sony's online network Crackle (season three begins April 15, with new star Rose McGowan).
Ventimiglia also does double duty as one of the show's stars, playing Ian Mitchell, a husband and father who becomes part of an elaborate game, with the lives of his wife (Nicky Whelan) and daughter at stake.
Zap2it: As an actor and producer, what do you look for in a project?
Milo Ventimiglia: As an actor, I go to the written word first, because those are the words I've got to speak. Then, as a producer, I go through the written word, because those are the words you tell a story with.

Rose McGowan plays new character Josie Acosta, a suburban mom and experienced hunter Josie Acosta the third season of Sony-owned Crackle‘s original series Chosen. “I do like to kill people,” McGowan said of her attraction to the role — enough to bring her back to series TV. “I specialize in somebody who doesn’t f*** around,” she said, calling that the overarching curve of her career. “These guys have created that kind of role for me. I’ve shied away from television for a long time.” McGowan said when she got the script she did not know what Crackle was “because I watch the classic movie channel.” But when she saw the series her response was, “this is bad-ass. What I love is action and smart action, and they don’t always go hand-in-hand. It’s smart, not just grunting and pointing (a gun). It’s cerebral — and then I get to kill people.

The Sony-owned streaming video site Crackle may not have the profile of Netflix or Hulu, but its been investing in original series of its own as well, among them the Jerry Seinfeld-hosted "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" and the contract killer series "Cleaners," starring Emmanuelle Chriqui and Gina Gershon. But it's original thriller "Chosen" that's been Crackle's most-watched original series, a thriller created by Ben Ketai (director of "30 Days of Night" sequel "Dark Days") and Ryan Lewis (producer of "Fat Kid Rules the World") that stars Milo Ventimiglia as Ian Mitchell, a defense lawyer who finds a box with a gun and a photo of a stranger inside it, and gets pulled into a secretly, deadly game. The six-episode first season premiered in full on January 17, each episode a TV-ready 22 or so minutes long. Crackle is bringing back "Chosen" for a second season of six half-hour episodes on December 12th,...

Guess what, ComicMix readers? Convention season is upon us! Hurrah!
“Aw, shucks,” you say. “I can’t make it to any conventions.”
Fear not, faithful friends! I am here to save the day by attending and reporting back for you. And I am psyched about it. Yes, I’ll probably need to hibernate my con exhaustion away afterwards, but man, I love the energy and excitement of a good con. And good thing, too, because this year, I’m planning to attend The North American Discworld Convention; San Diego Comic Con; Dragon*Con; Baltimore Comic Con; the Small Press Expo; New York Comic Con; and Capclave. Whew!
NADWCon and Sdcc are right around the corner, so I’m extra excited about those! Here’s what I’m looking forward to:
The North American Discworld Convention
The NADWCon is taking place in Baltimore, MD from July 5th to 8th, and memberships are still available!

Netflix has "House of Cards" and "Hemlock Grove," Hulu has Richard Linklater's "Up to Speed" and the upcoming Seth Meyers animated series "The Awesomes," and Amazon just added a potential "Zombieland" series to its greenlit pilot slate. And though smaller in scale and in attention paid, Crackle has its own original series too -- "Chosen," a scripted thriller of which the company has just ordered a second season. "Chosen" stars Milo Ventimiglia and is the creation of Ben Ketai ("30 Days of Night: Dark Days") and Ryan Lewis (co-producer of "Fat Kid Rules the World"), with Ketai also writing and directing the series. The first season, which premiered in full on Crackle on January 17 of this year and will be available until mid May, was made up of six half-hour episodes, and had Ventimiglia playing Ian Mitchell, a divorced defense lawyer and father of a little girl who discovers a...

Do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched? Milo Ventimiglia sure does!
Crackle's newest web series "Chosen" revolves around loving father Ian Mitchell, a criminal lawyer who is forced to kill an innocent man in order to protect his family. After a mysterious wooden box shows up on Mitchell's doorstep, he's forced to take part in a deadly game orchestrated by unseen forces known only as the Watchers.
"They’re sick, they’re twisted, they’re pulling the strings, and they have very, very, very deep reach," Ventimiglia told MTV News. "Anybody could be involved and it’s often times the people you don’t expect that are involved. They’re always watching!"
"Ian’s a guy who wears a suit and tie and gets in front of a judge and defends crimes for a living," Ventimiglia elaborated on his character. "So how do you...

Why does this synopsis remind me of The Box, starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella? Sure, this is a series from Crackle, but come on, the similarities in the plot can't be ignored. Each of the six half-hour episode promised non-stop action and shocking plot twists. Chosen follows Ian Mitchell (Milo Ventimiglia), a husband, father and lawyer who awakens one morning to discover a mysterious box on his doorstep – and a photo of a stranger he is instructed to kill within the next three days. Compare that to The Box's plot (IMDb) below. A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don't know. Also in the cast of the film which opens January 17th, 2013 on Crackle are Diedrich Bader, Nicky Whelan and Brett Davern.

Heroes alum Milo Ventimiglia plays an antihero in the new Crackle series Chosen.
The show follows Ian Mitchell (Ventimiglia), a lawyer who wakes up one day to find a mysterious box on his doorstep containing a loaded gun, a photo of a stranger he’s instructed to kill, and a ticking timer set to three days. Oh, and a shooter waiting across the street to kill him if he doesn’t meet their demands. In the exclusive extended trailer, the family man tries to resist “playing the game” until his wife is dragged into the mess and his young daughter is kidnapped.
