I Rented Out The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles So I Could Hijack The Primetime Emmy Awards – Check Out What Happened Next! We could very well be seeing videos like that invade the Emmy Awards – that is, if YouTube gets its way, as CEO Neal Mohan said that web content should be considered for Emmy Awards. So smash that like and subscribe, guys!
In an op-ped piece for The Hollywood Reporter, Mohan said that YouTube plays a major role in our society and that content creators are far more innovative and hard-working than one might figure. “If you think creators are just recording vlogs from their bedrooms, then I have some big news. Creators have writers’ rooms, production teams, and business strategies. They’re developing programming that’s not just popular and relevant – it’s breaking boundaries.”

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan kicked off the company’s 13th annual Brandcast by telling advertisers the video platform is “at the forefront of this new era of entertainment.”
Viewers of YouTube videos, he said, “are not just audiences. They’re ride-or-die, can’t miss a moment fans.”
Mohan reprised a proposal he recently advanced in an op-ed in Deadline sister publication THR, urging Emmy voters and rulemakers to encourage the idea of creators winning Emmys. “Creators are drawing audiences on the big screen because they’re the new Hollywood,” Mohan said. “They have business strategies, writers’ rooms and production teams. They’re reimagining classic TV genres, from morning shows to sports commentary. And they’re inventing entirely new ones.”
As such, he added, “they deserve the same acclaim as other creative professionals.”

YouTube’s message to Madison Avenue: The video giant isn’t like traditional TV — it’s bigger, with literally billions of viewers, and better at targeting relevant audiences.
At its annual Brandcast event, held Wednesday during the TV biz’s upfronts week, YouTube drilled home massive scale. On average, viewers watch more than 1 billion hours of content on TV screens daily. According to Nielsen’s total TV and streaming report for the U.S., YouTube has had the No. 1 share in streaming watch-time every month on American TVs since February 2023.
“We’re redefining what TV looks like, helping creators reach new heights and using AI to expand creativity,” said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan (pictured above), kicking off the evening’s event Wednesday.

Neal Mohan wants the Television Academy to watch more YouTube videos. The CEO of the Google-owned platform recently penned a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter. His thesis was a simple one: The work creators are doing is excellent enough to deserve Emmy consideration.
“Creators are defining a new era of entertainment,” Mohan wrote. “And they deserve the same acclaim as other creative professionals.”
Mohan supported his case by citing several of YouTube’s biggest channels. He sees the Sean Evans-hosted interview series Hot Ones as a show that is “reinventing” its genre, and he celebrated Good Mythical Morning hosts Rhett & Link for the “speed of their creativity and their strategies to respond to viewer feedback.” Michelle Khare, the creator behind Challenge Accepted, is another YouTube-based personality who is “pushing the envelope,” according to Mohan.
Why is YouTube so keen on the idea of the TV and creator worlds colliding?...

The religious horror movie Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Michael Mohan, wears its horror influences on its sleeves. Neon’s new horror movie is now available on Digital and PVOD, making it easier to catch up with the buzzy title. If you’ve already seen Immaculate, this companion watch guide highlights horror movies to pair with it.
Sweeney stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Cecilia’s warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside gets derailed soon enough when she discovers she’s become pregnant and realizes the convent harbors disturbing secrets.
From Will Bates’ gothic score to the filming locations and even shot compositions, Immaculate owes a lot to its cinematic influences. Mohan pulls from more than just religious horror, though. While Immaculate pays tribute to the classics, the horror movie surprises...

Immaculate is a movie starring Sydney Sweeney with Álvaro Morte and Simona Tabasco. It is directed by Michael Mohan.
“Immaculate” emerges as a commendable horror flick, blending all the timeless elements against a backdrop that almost never fails to chill its audience: a convent. Set in Italy around the mid-20th century, it provides an atmospheric setting that adds depth to the narrative.
While the plot may tread familiar ground and might not offer many surprises, both lead actress Sydney Sweeney and director Michael Mohan go to great lengths to ensure the film crosses the finish line as both entertaining and, at intervals, genuinely frightening.
Plot Overview
The story introduces us to a novice nun arriving at a new convent. Welcomed by a seemingly kind-hearted priest, she soon plunges into a world of nightmarish visions and sinister thoughts. To her shock, she discovers she’s pregnant, despite vehemently claiming no relations with any man.

Actor Manit Joura has opened up on playing the complex character Yug in the show ‘Pyaar Ka Pehla Naam Radha Mohan’, and the preparations involved in depicting the character’s extreme mood swings and intensity.
Following a recent seven-year leap, the storyline steers into uncharted territories for Radha and Mohan, played by Neeharika Roy and Shabir Ahluwalia, respectively.
The star-crossed lovers are no longer together. Radha is seen in an all-new avatar, living as Radhika Kohli in South Delhi along with her son Manan and husband Yug Kohli (played by Manit), in a world detached and distant from Mohan’s reality.
In recent episodes, viewers have observed a noticeable shift in Yug’s behaviour. From a loving, caring husband to a totally unhinged person, leaving viewers worried for Radha.
While he initially came off as a ‘green flag’, Yug has begun demonstrating streaks of controlling behaviour, possessiveness, and toxic chauvinism.

Box Office Clash Between Pushpa 2 Vs The Greatest Of All Time Is Not Happening ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Possibly, the biggest box office clash of the year is going to happen between Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again. Both films are carrying immense buzz, with their titular characters enjoying a cult status. Amid this, a few weeks back, some reports suggested that it’s no longer a two-way battle as Thalapathy Vijay has entered the scene with his The Greatest Of All Time. But now, it’s clear that Vijay is out of this competition.
For those who aren’t aware, Vijay is quitting films as he has planned to join full time politics. While it’s truly a shocker for fans and the Tamil film industry, a big relief is that the superstar has a couple of films in the kitty and he’ll complete them...

From the late 1960s to the 1970s, religious horror cinema reigned. Free of the censorious Hays Code, Hollywood could be transgressive again. Get ready to clutch your rosaries and gasp your Hail Marys, because Immaculate has risen to theatres, proving itself to be the unholy offspring of gothic horror and cult craziness we didn’t know we needed. Immaculate takes us on a perilous pilgrimage of a young nun who finds her sanctuary is anything but. Directed with a gothic touch by Michael Mohan, and starring the doe-eyed and scream-filled Sidney Sweeney, Immaculate weaves a tale of faith, terror, and unholy revelations.

The Sydney Sweeney nunsploitation flick "Immaculate" is having one hell of an opening weekend. Not only does the film now hold the distinction of earning Neon's biggest opening weekend ever domestically, but the borderline Satanic panic coming from evangelical conservatives losing their minds over the film has been the type of grassroots marketing campaign a PR can only dream of. After the now-deleted account @AuroraFaced posted the best possible pull quote for the film by writing on X (formerly Twitter), "Libs saw how the anti-woke crowd embraced Sydney Sweeney as their new darling and right away had to shove her in this blasphemous, Satanic, feminist, pro-abortion, anti-life movie degrading Christians! While the first hour or so of director Michael Mohan’s “Immaculate” is laden with familiar jump scares and ominous Catholic portent, all hell breaks loose in the last act. Sister Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who embraced religious piety after surviving nearly drowning in a frozen lake as a young girl, is the new nun in town at an exclusive Roman convent that doubles as a hospice care center for dying nuns in their last days. Despite coming to the convent a virgin, Cecilia is stunned to discover she’s pregnant.
That’s because Father Sal Tedeschi, a former geneticist before he became a priest, has been running DNA experiments for decades on the sisters, with Cecilia his first...

After working together on the one-season Netflix series Everything Sucks! and Prime Video erotic-thriller The Voyeurs, Immaculate sees the reunion of director Michael Mohan and producer/star Sydney Sweeney for a project that is being released into cinemas. Arriving at a remote Italian convent, the devout Sister Cecilia (Sweeney) intends to fulfil a new role tending to dying nuns. As the virginal sister discovers that she is pregnant, it becomes clear that dark secrets are being kept at this gorgeous countryside location.
It is well documented that, after auditioning for this role in 2014, Sweeney used her star power to revive this project and keep the throughline which initially attracted her, even while revising the script. Thank goodness that the Anyone But You star...

Convent-set movies occupy a storied place in cinema history—one too vast to attempt summarization in this review. But it’s no matter: Immaculate stands to be a minor entry in both the crowded genre and in Sydney Sweeney’s present ascension to movie stardom. Sweeney produces and recruited Michael Mohan to direct Immaculate after their previous collaborations on TV series Everything Sucks! and erotic-thriller throwback The Voyeurs.
Narratively, Immaculate owes more to Dario Argento’s Suspiria than any nunsploitation picture. The setups are essentially identical: wide-eyed American girl (Sweeney as Sister Cecilia in this case) heads to an all-girls dormitory in Italy. Nefarious plotting by shadowy leaders is unveiled over the course of the narrative.
Both films contain a cold open that sees a young girl attempt escape before meeting her doom. Immaculate’s opening is quite tense, its best sequence. In the aftermath of this chilling intro, the...

Michael Mohan revealed that his new horror film, Immaculate, originally had a very traditional ending. More on it below.

Sydney Sweeney stars in Michael Mohan’s religious horror film Immaculate, which is now in cinemas – we gave it a glowing four stars in our review. Sweeney plays Sister Cecilia, who transfers to an Italian convent but quickly finds herself miraculously pregnant.
In our chat with Mohan, the director revealed that the script originally had a very different ending.
“Originally, this was a studio movie, and it had a much more traditional ending, a very conservative ending,” he said.
If you’ve seen Immaculate, you know how strange that sounds. The current ending of Immaculate is thoroughly shocking, but also very impressive. The final minutes of the film follow Sweeney, in an uninterrupted shot, as she commits something horrific and, depending who you ask,...

Sydney Sweeney’s presence in any film is hard to ignore. With her distinctive millennial drawl and unmistakable presence, she often brings a piece of herself into the characters she portrays. Whether being real life whistle-blower in the impressive Reality, to playing Glen Powell’s love interest in Anyone But You, Sweeney is fast becoming the Julia Roberts of her era, which is why it is so exciting to see her taking risks with her ever growing career with the excellent new horror, Immaculate.
In the film, Sweeney stars as Sister Cecilia, a virginal young nun mysteriously impregnated and imprisoned by a fanatical convent convinced she carries the second coming of Christ. Directed by Michael Mohan, this film takes audiences on a wild ride through themes of religious oppression, superstition and feminine autonomy,
From the outset, it’s clear that Sweeney’s star power adds a layer of complexity to the character of Sister Cecilia.

To say that modern human society has issues with organized religion is an understatement. Make no mistake: faith is a beautiful and often necessary component of living, if only to help ease the burdens that are foisted upon every one of us on a daily basis. There can be such great comfort in believing that there's a divine presence in the universe, whether it's something that makes everything happen for an unfathomable reason or whether it's something that is perhaps testing us, putting all of us through our moral paces before we perhaps receive peace in the afterlife.
However, there's no denying that these beautiful and healthy aspects of religion have been woefully corrupted by eons of human weakness, frailty, bigotry, misogyny, and much else. As many people these days rightfully point out, a number of the current tenets of American Catholicism and...

"Immaculate" isn't.
Michael Mohan's new nunsploitation thriller doesn't possess the artistry or thoughtfulness to be a stirring analysis of Roman Catholic sexism, nor does it have the temerity to be an enjoyably trashy, violent, sex-soaked drive-in flick. To be sure, it possesses elements of both arthouse and grindhouse, but Mohan hasn't mastered either, leaving "Immaculate" in a frustrating middle-ground that will please no one. Some may be temporarily distracted by cinematographer Elisha Christian's clever, classy lighting choices -- there is a late-film chase through pitch-black catacombs that provides some modest thrills -- or by the funereal, liturgical score by Will Bates, but many will surely recognize a B-movie when they see it.
"Immaculate" clearly wants to be, in its heart, fun/violent and ultra-salacious; it features multiple characters who clumsily wield a nine-inch nail that is said to have once affixed Christ's hand to the cross. There...

It doesn’t take a theologist to see that “Immaculate” director Michael Mohan probably grew up a devout Catholic.
His new horror movie stars Sydney Sweeney as a flung-from-innocence novice nun who arrives at a Roman convent bubbling with religious fealty — only to become the vessel for an immaculate conception gone horrifically wrong. Taking advantage of the film’s on-location shoot, Mohan, who previously directed the “Euphoria” and “Anyone but You” breakout in his erotic thriller “The Voyeurs,” steeps the shocker in religious iconography that veers from the saintly to the satanic.
“I grew up super devout Catholic,” Mohan told IndieWire. And “every Catholic person has guilt and trauma.” That’s for sure, as the Neon release mashes references to Ken Russell’s “The Devils,” Roman Polanski’s “Rosemary’s Baby,” and even Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” in charting Sister Cecilia’s (Sweeney) psychological undoing in the process of being emblemized...

Radha’s visual transformation speaks volumes about the change in her demeanor, embracing a more contemporary and independent persona.
Previously adorned in elegant sarees with her hair neatly braided, Radha now graces the screen in stylish Anarkali suits, showcasing a bold departure from her earlier, more traditional look. Sydney Sweeney’s had a huge 2024 so far — and her most startling act of the year is still ahead.
In the early weeks of the year, her Sony Pictures romantic comedy with Glen Powell, “Anyone But You,” showed remarkable staying power at the box office, eventually building from a tepid early result amid holiday competition to over $200 million at the global box office on the strength of word-of-mouth. Sweeney’s Fifty-Fifty Films shingle produced the film, as well as the upcoming “Immaculate,” which is to be released by Neon on March 22.

From eighth billing to bankable leading lady, Immaculate director Michael Mohan has played a key role in Sydney Sweeney’s rise to superstar status.
In 2017, Mohan helped cast Sweeney in the ‘90s coming-of-age series, Everything Sucks!, and while she was only billed eighth in the closing credits, her character played an integral part in the show’s central coming-out story. Mohan was certainly impressed by the Washington native’s acting ability, but it was her extracurricular efforts that indicated she was bound for great things, as she spent her downtime learning the ins and outs of production. Unfortunately, in April 2018, despite a passionate fanbase, Everything Sucks! became one of Netflix’s first of many more heartbreaking cancellations. However, within a matter of months, it opened the door for Sweeney to join the cast of HBO’s eventual hit, Euphoria.

Sydney Sweeney has had a busy few months as she rises to new levels of stardom. After the mammoth success of her romantic comedy with Top Gun: Maverick’s Glenn Powell called Anyone But You, the actress starred in the meme-bank Sony film Madame Web. The actress is now gearing up for the release of her first production, the horror film Immaculate.
Sweeney reportedly first came across the script for the film when she auditioned for it way before her fame. Though the project did not take off, the script of the film reportedly kept spinning her head, and when she got the chance to produce her own film, she decided to contact the screenwriter. While there were some changes from the original script, Sweeney mentioned that her performance in one particular scene in the film was the result of her reaction to a real-life incident.

When season two of Euphoria was airing in early 2022, social media was filled with memes of Sydney Sweeney’s terrified expressions in the show, as the internet declared the star needed to be put in a horror movie as soon as possible. It turns out she was already working on it, in the form of her latest film, Immaculate.
“I already had the script so I was really excited to see everybody’s reactions to Euphoria season two and everybody being like, ‘A horror film! Give us a horror film!'” Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere at Beyond Fest on Friday. “I was like, ‘Just you wait! I have something in store for you.’ I held onto it for a long time.”
A long time is an understatement, as she initially auditioned for the project a decade ago, but the movie was never made.

Sydney Sweeney’s second collaboration with director Michael Mohan, Immaculate, recently premiered at the SXSW Festival. Horror film fans are in for a treat as this film is filled with its share of blood and gore. During the filming of one of the particularly ‘bloody’ scenes, Sweeney suffered an ocular injury from fake blood flowing into her eyes. The Euphoria actress pulled off a Leonardo DiCaprio move and continued filming the scene with her hurt eyes.

DiCaprio set the precedence for this acting commitment in his movie Django Unchained with Quentin Tarantino, where he ignored a bleeding hand to perform an intense scene. Also serving as the producer of the film, Sweeney could’ve felt the extra pressure to deliver on her role.

Sydney Sweeney endures all kinds of religious and bodily horrors in director Michael Mohan’s “Immaculate” — and that included a real ocular injury on set.
Speaking to IndieWire, Mohan said that while shooting the last take for the nun horror movie out from Neon March 22, Sweeney got fake blood in her eye in one of the film’s gnarliest scenes. Theatrical blood typically includes ingredients like corn syrup, red food coloring, and even cocoa powder — in other words, stuff you’d never want to get in your eyes.
“We wanted to do everything practically,” said Mohan, whose film stars “Euphoria” and “Anyone but You” breakout as Sister Cecilia, the new nun at a Roman convent who becomes the vessel for an immaculate conception she ultimately rebels against in a bloody final twist we won’t spoil here. But let’s just say you’ve never seen a pregnant final girl quite like this before.

In director Michael Mohan’s Immaculate, evil lies not in the efforts of Satan and his demons but solely within the hearts of the men running a convent in the Italian countryside and, to a lesser degree, the women who answer directly to them. In the opening scene, we witness a terrified young nun (Simona Tabasco) desperately trying to escape the convent, only to be hunted down and restrained by a creepy quartet of red-masked nuns. From this point on, it’s abundantly clear that something is off at Our Lady of Sorrows, even if it takes a young American nun, Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who’s freshly arrived at the convent, quite a while to figure out that serious trouble is brewing in this little corner of paradise.

Ever since resurrecting the erotic thriller with the respectably lurid 2021 drama “The Voyeurs,” it was clear Sydney Sweeney and director Michael Mohan were interested in second comings. So it was only a matter of time before they’d turn their attention to Christ himself in “Immaculate,” an enjoyable if uneven horror film cut from a slightly different cloth than its religious brethren with a captivating turn from its star as a virginal nun whose pregnancy inspires questions beyond the health of the child, and a hell of an ending.
Refreshingly free of the pseudo-theology that usually bogs down films set inside the church, “Immaculate” simply suggests that My Lady of Sorrows is no place for a young woman. A resting home for older sisters to spend their final days, it seems from the nun (Simona Tabasco) trying to make a break for it in its energetic opening sequence, age doesn...

In the realm of religious horror, one filled with tales of divine terror, Immaculate emerges as the latest contender. Yet despite its promising setup within the shadowy confines of an Italian nunnery and a cast led by Sydney Sweeney, the film struggles to carve out a niche for itself. Directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel, the movie treads familiar ground, recycling familiar elements without delivering the novel twists, deeper insights or genuine horror in a genre that thrives on the exploration of faith’s darker dimensions.
The opening scene grips the audience with a woman’s desperate attempt to escape from a nunnery, only to be thwarted and mysteriously buried alive. The story then shifts to Sister Cecilia (Sweeney), a novitiate embarking on her spiritual journey at the nunnery, undeterred by skepticism at customs and cautionary advice from Sister Mary (Simona Tabasco) about her vows. Her encounter...

A horror movie set in an Italian convent with a title like Immaculate communicates all there is to know about the plot. A young American nun, Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), travels to her new post in the remote countryside, only to discover she’s miraculously pregnant soon after taking her vows. Director Michael Mohan and screenwriter Andrew Lobel pack in the Italian horror influences, with Suspiria largely presiding over this religious horror entry and blasphemous imagery in spades. But the film’s breakneck plotting, inert jump scare overreliance, and familiar tropes undermine a fierce performance by its lead.
Despite the stunning, labyrinthine, and ornate halls of the sprawling convent, the cast of characters in Immaculate is rather small. The sweet fish-out-of-water Sister Cecilia instantly bonds with Father Sal (Álvaro Morte) and the feisty Sister Gwen (Benedetta Porcaroli) yet draws angry stares from Sister Mary (Simona Tabasco). Toss in a few eccentric or stern Church elders,...

Last month, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they had given the psychological horror film Immaculate, which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks!, an R rating for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language. Now, in an interview with Variety, Mohan has promised that the film gets extreme, just like that rating explanation indicated.
Scripted by Andrew Lobel, Immaculate sees Sweeney taking on the role of Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.
Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus), Alvaro Morte (Money Heist), Benedetta Porcaroli (Baby), and Dora Romano (The Hand of God...

Fresh off her recent stint hosting “Saturday Night Live,” Sydney Sweeney made her way to Austin and SXSW for the world premiere of her new religious horror film “Immaculate” — and on Tuesday night, she had the crowd screaming (and laughing at their own reactions) at the Paramount Theatre.
The jump scares, in particular, had the entire theater jumping — and then giggling at their own fear. “Immaculate” leans into horror but also has plenty of moments of dark humor.
“I think that you really truly care about the characters and story,” Sweeney said during the on-stage conversation after the screening. “Yes, we wanted you guys all to jump in your seats and be hopefully horrified shitless. But you still care about the story.”
Neon is behind “Immaculate,” while Sweeney also produced the movie with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. The film is set to be released on March 22.

It is not original to observe that despite being about salvation, much of traditional Roman Catholicism seems rooted in pain and agony. Like many children before me, I recall vividly the first shudder that accompanied seeing an idol of Christ graphically bleeding on the cross; and when fundamentalist filmmaker Mel Gibson made his movie about Jesus, it was entirely fixated on the passion (read: torture) this messiah endured. The actual resurrection and salvation, meanwhile, was not even deigned a footnote.
Folks should believe what they want to believe—and there are many beliefs, indeed, in a religion with 1.4 billion souls amongst its ranks—but there remains something positively medieval in certain, powerful corners of the orthodoxy. And director Michael Mohan and star/producer Sydney Sweeney have tapped into that iconography to summon a horror full of mysticism, passion, and, of course, pain. As the mother superior in Immaculate intones, “Suffering is love.
