The Mandalorian this week was all about pesky pirates, in an action-packed episode that led to the reveal that someone sporting Beskar has apparently done a very, very bad thing.

Ahmed Best had to think long and hard about guest-starring in the latest episode of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, due to the “rollercoaster ride of emotions” he endured as the prequel film trilogy’s Jar Jar Binks.
A floppy-eared Gungan introduced in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar was met with some backlash — either framed as a blatant ploy by Lucasfilm to cater to kiddies, or criticized as a “Rastafarian Stepin Fetchit on platform hoofs” (as the Wall Street Journal put it back in the day). The Mandalorian Reveals Grogu's Savior During Order 66 — and He Sorta Hassa Big Prequel Trilogy Ties
The Mandalorian this week shed light on how exactly Grogu was saved years ago from the Order 66 bloodbath — and the reveal involved a big-time (iffa polarizing!) prequel trilogy callback of sorts.
The early gist of Season 3, Episode 4 (titled “The Foundling”) opened with the first steps in Grogu’s training to eventually rise up to Mandalorian apprentice level. That involved a challenge, against a Mandalorian kid, to a game of “darts” — which in this case are wrist-fired paintballs. The first to score three hits wins, and sure enough, Grogu’s opponent easily splats him with both of his first two salvos.

Whitney Houston was right: "Impossible things are happening every day." The first Black woman to ever play Cinderella on screen and the Vocal Bible herself, Brandy will be wearing her glass slippers once again as she reprises the role for the "Descendants" prequel film, "The Pocketwatch" for Disney+, according to Variety. Brandy first played the role in the 1997 "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" made-for-tv movie. At the time of release, the film was the most expensive made-for-tv film in history, a delightfully zany adaptation of the classic tale featuring catchy songs, an unbelievable costume design from Ellen Mirojnick, and a racially diverse cast that was a revolution.

One of Disney’s most beloved princesses is coming back onscreen. Brandy will reprise her role as Cinderella for a new Disney+ film in the “Descendants” franchise.
Brandy previously famously portrayed the fairytale princess in a TV film adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” musical, which was watched by 60 million viewers when it first aired on ABC in 1997. The film’s inclusive and diverse casting — which included Brandy as the first Black woman to play Cinderella, Whitney Houston and Whoopi Goldberg as the Fairy Godmother and the Queen, and Paolo Montalbán as a Filipino Prince Charming — was widely regarded as groundbreaking, and the film has since become considered a classic. This August, Brandy reunited with the cast of the film for an ABC special to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The new “Descendants” film, currently under the working title “The Pocketwatch,” will be the first time in the role since the 1997 film.

Appearing as part of ABC’s special edition of 20/20 in Cinderella: The Reunion, which aired Tuesday night, the actress, comedian and View co-host opened up about how she delivered one of the film’s funniest (and most regal) performances.
During a segment discussing Goldberg’s casting, she expressed that she based the character on herself, and was even behind her signature vocal characterization of answering with exasperated, shocked or faux hurt reactions.
“I wanted her to be me in a dress. A little silly, a little fun. And I gave her a distinction,” Goldberg said. “She doesn’t finish sentences, she makes sounds.”
After being described as the “soul of the production,” Goldberg also revealed that the very real,...

ABC is bringing fans a lovely night this week, with a reunion of “Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” coming on Tuesday. But if you miss it live, don’t worry. It’s definitely possible to watch it again elsewhere.
Back in 1997, “Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” came as part of “The Wonderful World of Disney.” In it, pop star Brandy starred as Cinderella, with Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother, marking the first Black Cinderella and Fairy Godmother ever. For a long time, it was, well, impossible, to watch it anywhere, as it wasn’t streaming. But, in February of last year, Disney rectified that. Now, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the movie, “Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20” will air on ABC on Tuesday night.

Brandy showed TikTok followers that reprising the titular role in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella after more than 20 years is far from impossible.
On Friday the star of the Emmy-winning musical put her own magical spin on a viral TikTok challenge to promote and celebrate the musical’s Disney+ premiere. Like most TikTok makeup brush challenge videos, Brandy began her short social media clip with a bare face, casual clothing and Disney’s “Where Did I Put That Thing/ Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” playing in the background.
However halfway through the TikTok, Brandy holds her makeup brush to the camera to unveil a striking transformation.
She appears in her Cinderella gown, donning blue eyeshadow, a sparkling necklace and a crown, harkening back to her time in the Rodgers & Hammerstein role in 1997. Instead of the upbeat number from the Disney animated film, Brandy and Whitney Houston’s “Impossible” plays in the background.

Paolo Montalban can’t wait for fans old and new to watch “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” when it makes its long-awaited debut on Disney+ on Friday.
The 1997 TV musical, which starred Brandy Norwood as the titular princess and Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother, was Montalban’s first major movie role, and it was a bonafide hit, with 60 million people watching it on ABC nearly 25 years ago.
