Everton’s South African midfielder Steven Pienaar has been tipped to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season, with former club Ajax touted as the likely destination.
According to the South Africa national team’s official Twitter account (via Liverpool Echo), the player’s business manager Robert Moore has confirmed that the deal is under discussion.
Pienaar returned from a lengthy injury layoff last weekend when Everton defeated Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 in the Fa Cup, but it is unclear whether he features in manager Roberto Martinez’s first-team plans.
The 33-year-old winger has made almost 200 appearances for Everton across two spells with the club and two loan stints. He rejoined the Blues from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 following an unsuccessful stay in London.
He played for Ajax between 2001 and 2006, scoring 15 times in 94 appearances before leaving the Netherlands for Borussia Dortmund.
