Not everything is going just peachy when it comes to the Rockford Peaches.
Based on the true story and inspired by Penny Marshall’s hit 1992 film of the same name, Amazon Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” captures the all-women baseball league during WWII. “Broad City” showrunner Abbi Jacobson co-created, stars, and executive produces the eight-episode series, which premieres on the streamer on August 12. “Mozart in the Jungle” helmer Will Graham co-created the show.
Centered on the real-life all-female traveling baseball league formed in 1943, “A League of Their Own” introduces entirely new characters separate from the film. Jacobson stars as Carson, a catcher who joins a team during WWII and seems to spark a romance with slugger Greta (D’Arcy Carden). Chanté Adams (“A Journal for Jordan”) co-leads as baseball phenom Max, a composite character representing real-life Negro League players Mamie Johnson, Connie Morgan, and Toni Stone. This July marks the 30th anniversary of the Penny Marshall-directed A League of Their Own, a cinematic classic that reintroduced — and in some cases, merely introduced — American audiences to one of the most distinctive periods in U.S. sports history.
It’s also just one month ahead of when Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham’s co-created series of the same name — based on the same group of women who played in The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II — will debut.
“I think it’s as original as we could make it being based on that real league,” Jacobson told The Hollywood Reporter during the show’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere. “Penny Marshall watched a documentary about the All-American Girls League, and then the movie came out of her viewing that and being, ‘Oh, I want to make a film about this.

There may be no crying in baseball, but there were tears all throughout the world premiere of Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own.”
Co-created and executive-produced by Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) and Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”), “A League of Their Own” debuted at Tribeca 2022 on June 13. The TV reimagining of Penny Marshall’s beloved 1992 film of the same name was a “labor of love that has taken most of our adult lives,” Jacobson joked while introducing the pilot episode, which premieres on Prime Video August 12.
“We had a chance to talk to Penny before she passed away,” Graham explained. “She told us these stories changed her life and it will for you too. As much as we love the movie, it’s really the stories underneath it, including the ones of queer women, of women of color, those ones that didn’t make it into the 1992 film.

It has been a fantastic week for baseball. The Cubs won the World Series, and this quiet little show about a female pitcher in the Leagues continues to break boundaries, barriers, and hearts!
I didn't expect much out of Pitch Season 1 Episode 6, but by the end of the episode, I was speechless. I certainly didn't expect to be sitting in the middle of my hotel room on the verge of bawling my eyes out.
This show is amazing. It's so multi-dimensional and touching. There's a reason why fans are so drawn in, and are passionate enough to trend #RenewPitch hours before the episode even aired. It moves people.
"Wear It" was probably the best episode to date. I may have said that once or twice before, but the show truly does get better with each and every episode. It's amazing how they're able to flesh out these characters and make this storyline so compelling.

2010 may now be deemed the Betty White year. After a chart-topping Facebook campaign that lead to a guest-spot on SNL, White staged a one-woman takeover on the TV and Film industry. Now, her new comic book, released by Bluewater Productions, will be staging a charitable takeover. Bluewater Productions has just announced that the Betty White Comic Book, part of its Female Force comic book series, will have a portion of its proceeds go to the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (Glaza) per the request of Betty White. "Betty began serving as a Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (Glaza) Trustee in the early 1970s and is currently Glaza Chairman," says Glaza President Connie Morgan. "Her deep understanding and passion for the Zoo and her close relationship with its animals continue to be illustrated by the many ways she finds to provide important funds to support our work.
