When you watch Mandy, you can’t help but feel it was a film ahead of its time. The story of a deaf girl unable to speak, the new Blu-ray is the perfect chance to watch the movie again.
When Mandy’s (Mandy Miller) parents discover that their child is deaf, they struggle to help her communicate not only with the outside world, but with themselves too. When Christine (Phyllis Calvert), the mother, decides to take Mandy to a school for deaf children, her husband’s reluctance to allow this puts a strain on their marriage.
What is impressive about Mandy is that it doesn’t over dramatise the story of a little girl trapped in her own little world,...

Here’s a spicy hot take—I’m as far as one could get from excited for Universal’s new film The Mummy. This isn’t exactly the movie’s fault, per se, as much as it is the world the movie inhabits, a sort of bizarro realm where a Brian Tyler-scored Tom Cruise action spectacle that’s meant to lay the groundwork for a Marvel-style cinematic universe, complete with Dr. Jekyll in the role of Nick Fury, is the most commercially viable way to make a movie about an ancient mummy’s curse. Now, I can see why the film’s being made, and you can’t exactly fault a studio for wanting to chase the money train that is the McU, but personally, I couldn’t care less about the picture being released. Because when I think of mummies, I don’t think of Tom Cruise, or Brendan Fraser,...

Hammer horror fans are in for a treat, as respective collections of five William Castle films and five Hammer horror movies are coming out on Blu-ray in August, and The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant has been set to come out on Blu-ray.
The William Castle and Hammer horror collections will respectively come out on DVD August 18th from Mill Creek. The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant, meanwhile, is slated for release later this year by Kino Lorber. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates.
From Mill Creek: "Iconic horror director William Castle created a simple, but winning formula for his films: a little comedy, a lot of scares, a preposterous gimmick, and a clear sense that fright films should be fun. This even meant Castle would, like Alfred Hitchcock, appear in his trailers and even the movies themselves. Though his career spanned 35 years and included everything from westerns to crime thrillers, he'll...

Justin Bieber stepped on a lot of toes (literally and figuratively) when he unexpectedly crashed a high school prom in La last Saturday. While Justin made a lot of dreams come true when he showed up to the dance for Chatsworth Charter High School, district spokeswoman Ellen T. Morgan isn't pleased with the singer's spontaneous decision. "The school was aware that Mr. Bieber was at the venue recording, but was assured that he would not come out to interfere with the program," she said in a statement to Yahoo Music. "His entourage pushed past the school's security to gain access to the dance floor and was there for three to four minutes. From the students' perspective it was a once in a lifetime experience to have him at their prom, but we were extremely concerned for the safety of both our students as well as Mr. Bieber. No student was injured while he was there.

The fallout from Tracy Morgan's homophobic rant continued to play out on Saturday, as several celebrities and Hollywood titans issued statements and took to Twitter to debate free speech vs. hate speech in the context of the comments the comedian made at a standup show on June 3rd in Nashville.
After "30 Rock" executive producer Tina Fey condemned Morgan's remarks on Friday, Cheyenne Jackson, an openly gay actor who plays Danny on "30 Rock," issued a statement to Out Magazine saying that he was "disgusted" by Morgan's words.
"I am disgusted and appalled by Tracy Morgan's homophobic rant," he said. "The devastating repercussions of hate-filled language manifest in very real ways for today's Lgbtq youth. I've known Tracy for two years, spent many long hours with him on set, and I want to believe that this behavior is not at the core of who he is. I'm incredibly disappointed by his actions,...

Country star Trace Adkins is fronting a new campaign to preserve America's Civil War battlefields. The "Chrome" singer appeared at a hearing before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, April 14 and highlighted the need for emphasis on preservation over the next five years, during the 150th anniversary period.
Adkins told the politicians that he grew up with stories of his great-great grandfather Henry T. Morgan's military service in Louisiana, and that spurred a life-long love of Civil War history. He tells WENN, "American battlefields serve as monuments to what can happen when political wisdom fails and our differences are allowed to escalate beyond reason."
Alongside Civil War Trust president James Lighthizer, Adkins declared these years of the Civil War sesquicentennial anniversary "the opportune time to redouble efforts to forever protect these hallowed grounds".
