When Gilmore Girls fans see Liz Torres, they see Miss Patty. Torres, who portrayed the salacious dance instructor, for all seven seasons, also reprised her role in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Torres seemed born to play Miss Patty, but she was also in a short-lived and long-forgotten Amy Sherman-Palladino project a few years before the premiere of Gilmore Girls. Her character was far less titillating and more practical than the ever-eccentric Miss Patty.

Liz Torres might be best known as Miss Patty on Gilmore Girls, but once upon a time, she played a character named Rose on a short-lived series called Over the Top. Fame showrunner, Amy Sherman-Palladino, served as a producer on the ill-fated series.

Alan Kalter, the “voice” of CBS’ “Late Show With David Letterman” for most of its run, has died, Variety has confirmed. He was 78.
According to Rabbi Joshua Hammerman of Temple Beth El in Stamford, Conn., Kalter died at Stamford Hospital, with wife Peggy and his daughters Lauren Hass and Diana Binger at his side.
Kalter took over as Letterman’s announcer on Sept. 5, 1995, replacing Bill Wendell, who had retired. Kalter remained with “Late Show” until Letterman ended his tenure in May 2015.
Although the gig centered on announcing the guests at the top of each show and other various introduction elements, Kalter soon became a pivotal part of “Late Show,” often in scripted segments in which he satirically flew off the handle and stormed off stage; played himself as deviant and creepy; and often being the butt of jokes.

George Basha and David Field.
Nine years after their first collaboration on The Combination, co-directors David Field and George Basha are putting the finishing touches on the sequel.
Pinnacle Films will launch The Combination: Redemption on February 7 as well as handling international sales of the crime drama set in Sydney’s Western suburbs.
Field made his directing debut on the 2009 film which starred Basha as John Morkos, a Lebanese-Australian who is released after 18 months in jail and discovers his teenage brother Charlie (Firass Dirani) is involved with a Lebanese gang which is feuding with a bunch of Australian bigots.
Scripted by Basha and set six year later, the sequel follows Morkos as he is still haunted by the events that led to his death of his brother. As he begins to rebuild his life he finds solace in the boxing ring at his local gymnasium.

While the news is still playing out on the future of NBC's Tonight Show, with Jimmy Fallon set to succeed Jay Leno, now comes the revelation that the network's half-a-billion-dollar-a-year morning franchise, the Today show, nearly lost its No. 1 star: Matt Lauer.
Though currently the show is going through a turbulent period in the aftermath of Ann Curry's departure and its ratings slip to ABC rival Good Morning America, Lauer, 55, was set to jump ship to ABC last year, when reports surfaced that Ryan Seacrest was possibly going to replace him on Today, reports New York magazine, in the issue hitting newsstands Monday.

Exclusive: TBS has greenlighted Naked Truth, a panel talk show hosted by comedian Tom Papa (The Marriage Ref) and produced by late-night guru Robert Morton (Late Show With David Letterman). On the show, Papa sits at a desk with three other comedians who form a panel to discuss and riff on topics in the zeitgeist, stories big and small, all with a comedic twist. “We thought it would be fun to have comedians help us sort through the avalanche of information falling on us every day and help expose what’s wrong with everything,” Papa said. He is executive producing the project with Morton and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Dave Becky and Josh Lieberman. This marks Morton’s return to TBS, where he recently served as executive producer on Lopez Tonight.

Now executive-produced by late-night guru Robert Morton (Late Show With David Letterman), Lopez Tonight will follow O’Brien’s production schedule—four days a week, up from three. As you know, Deadline's TV Editor Nellie Andreeva is still traveling... Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that TBS' Lopez Tonight is shaking up its producing ranks. "Leaving the show are executive producers Mike Gibbons and Jim Paratore, and sources say that coming in as executive producer will be Robert Morton... Gibbons' option for a second year with the show was not picked up by the show." Morton is the longtime producer and Letterman alum who has worked on several shows, including those starring Wayne Brady, Carlos Mencia and David Alan Grier. Paratore has launched several shows including TMZ and Bonnie Hunt and then, once they are up and running, moves on to new projects. Gibbons credits include creator and executive producer of Comedy Central's Tosh.O, and executive producer of Talk Show With Spike Feresten on Fox as well as The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn and The Showbiz Show With David Spade.

New York -- Veteran comedy producers and masterminds of the defunct U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen are returning to the mountain resort as part of this week's Aspen Ideas Festival to try out a format mixing politics and comedy called "The News Has No Clothes."
If the stage show works, producers could end up pitching the concept -- described as "The View" and "Politically Incorrect" meet old BBC show "That Was the Week That Was" -- to TV networks for a possible late-night slot.
The team behind the idea includes Joe Lang, director of festival producer Jazz Aspen Snowmass and former local producer for Uscaf; Craig Minassian, assistant press secretary and director of TV news in the Clinton White House and Uscaf director; Robert Morton, former executive producer of "Late Show With David Letterman" and Comedy Central's "Chocolate News"; and Stu Smiley, executive producer of "Flight of...
