Les Murray was born on October 17, 1938 in Nabiac, New South Wales, Australia. He was a writer, known for The Widower (2004), The Last Hellos (2017) and Antarctica (1991). He was married to Valerie Morelli. He died on April 29, 2019 in Taree, New South Wales, Australia.
Attended Sydney University from 1957-1960 but left without a degree.
Resumed studies later and graduated in 1969.
Collapsed with a severe liver infection in 1996 that almost killed him. Fortunately, he made a complete recovery.
Won many literary awards for his poems. These include the Grace Leven Prize (1980 and 1990), the Petrarch Prize (1995), and the TS
Eliot Award (1996). In 1999 he was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
Was one of Australia's leading poets.
Worked as a translator before becoming a full-time poet.
