Citadel doesn’t premiere on Amazon Prime Video until April 28, but the spy thriller starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden is set for a second season, and it’s coming to California.
The series executive produced by the Russo Brothers has been awarded a whopping $25 million in tax credits to relocate from the UK to the Golden State for Season 2, the California Film Commission said Monday. In total, seven TV series — two relocations, five new shows — are in line to receive around $80 million in incentives for this allocation round. See the list below.
In fact, Citadel isn’t the only Amazon series to benefit from California’s generous program this time around, with a list that includes a couple of untitled series as well as HBO’s Wondermill, which appears to be a code name for The Rehearsal, whose first season filmed in Oregon. Russo discussed Agbo’s upcoming slate at the second-annual Sands International Film Festival of St Andrews.
With the big-budget Amazon franchise Citadel poised to launch on Amazon Prime on April 28, Agbo producer Joe Russo says the model of an English-language ‘mothership’ expanding into local content could have limitless possibilities.
“Because we all consume so much content, and we all basically have a PhD in storytelling, it’s become predictive. I think it’s important to explore new ways to tell stories. It’s also important to create a global community of storytellers, where we can share stories with each other.

The Sands International Film Festival, Scotland’s burgeoning film event, opened its second edition this weekend with the world premiere screening of Citadel, the much-talked-about Prime Video series from Marvel auteurs Anthony and Joe Russo.
Two episodes of varying length, but both well under the hour mark, played as a surprise screening for the packed opening night crowd. The response from the audience, which comprised a mix of industry professionals and students from the University of St. Andrews, a co-organizer of the fest, was jubilant with heavy laughs and gasps for the surprisingly funny yet tricky spy thriller.
The ambitious series is led by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, who play members of a secret global spy agency called Citadel. After a deadly attack, the agency is disbanded, and its elite agents are wiped of their memories. With Citadel out the way, a new powerful syndicate, Manticore, is rising in the void.

The first-look images of the upcoming action-spy thriller series ‘Citadel’ were unveiled recently and they show Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a deadly gun-toting avatar which she balances by setting the mercury on fire with her look. Her character is revealed to be an elite spy, Nadia Sinh in the show directed by Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo.
‘Citadel’ tells the story of the eponymous independent global spy agency which gets destroyed by operatives of Manticore as the former was tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people. Manticore is a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows.
With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They continue to be hidden from the world, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague,...

We want to understand why.”
