"Don't Feed the Monkeys," that is what the poster for David R. Ellis' (Snakes on a Plane) latest says. War Monkeys is currently in development from Intandem Films and the story involves several gun carrying apes released from a military research facility. No, this is not Planet of the Apes, but a film which focuses more on the comedy. Cast is also still in development. However, those interested in deadly monkeys can have an early look at the film's synopsis below.
The synopsis for War Monkeys:
"Following the mothballing of a secret Us Government Experiment, an incompetent Janitor, Walter, accidentally unleashes a platoon of military trained – and very angry - monkeys from an animal containment lab run by the sadistic Dr. Orkenstein. Mayhem ensues and soon Walter and a platoon of elite soldiers sent in to control the situation, are in a race for their lives against an...

As a reminder, War Monkeys is about two janitors who get trapped in an underground research facility full of an army of military-trained research monkeys. The script was written by Cleve Nettles (All Over Again) and is based on a story by Chris Patton (Monarch of the Moon). Dark Horse Indie is developing the project. "Monkeys, guns, explosions. As a genre freak, I couldn't ask for anything more," Munroe said previously in regards to War Monkeys. We originally reported that this project was in development with Munroe late last year. I've been quite excited for War Monkeys, primarily because its been...

The folks over at Shock Till You Drop are reporting that Kyle Newman, director of the Star Wars-themed road trip comedy Fanboys, has signed on to direct War Monkeys, a horror-comedy from writer Cleve Nettles. Newman replaces Kevin Munroe, writer and director of the 2007 animated flick Tmnt. Munroe is currently filming Dead of Night, an adaptation of the graphic novel Dylan Dog, in New Orleans and scheduling conflicts are preventing him from helming Monkeys. The movie centers on a pair of janitors who are trapped in an underground research facility during a Christmas holiday and accidentally unleash a team of military-trained Rhesus monkeys into the building. Munroe will remain on as a producer. Shock says casting is expected to begin next week. Back when Munroe was announced as the director the trades reported that Hong Kong star Sammo Hung was in talks to join the flick, but those reports have not yet been confirmed.

The great movie martial artist Sammo Hung has signed on to star in War Monkeys, a horror comedy that sounds absolutely demented. In the best possible way, of course. In a story that has shades of Return Of The Living Dead, Hung will play one of two janitors who find themselves trapped in an underground research facility over the Christmas holiday after they accidentally unleash a group of rabid, military-trained Rhesus monkeys. The janitors must then do battle with the monkeys – which is where Hung’s martial arts prowess will come in handy. The movie – which will be produced by Dark Horse Indie, a branch of Dark Horse Films - will be directed by Kevin Munroe, who called the shots on the recent CG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles revamp, Tmnt. This time he’ll get to work in live action, although the monkeys themselves will be brought to life via a mixture of techniques.

It was last August when I first heard the phrase "War Monkeys," and I've been waiting for fresh news ever since. Yes, seriously. Now it comes, courtesy of Shock, and the news is this: War Monkeys will be directed by Kevin Munroe, which thrills me not because I necessarily loved Munroe's last movie (Tmnt), but because a production company doesn't sign a director unless the movie is actually being made. Which means that War Monkeys is being made. That's awesome.
Munroe told Shock that Cleve Nettles' script is sort of like "Quentin Tarantino's Gremlins," which is a description that makes my salivary glands kick in. But wait, there's more! It's also "an older, meaner brother of [an] Amblin [production]. It's real horror with real scary elements. You've got real monsters here with the monkeys. But the characters are a modern day Abbott and Costello. In the same vein of Shaun of the Dead but scarier.

Kevin Munroe ( Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles '07) is in negotiations to direct the horror movie War Monkeys , a script written by Cleve Nettles and announced by Dark Horse Indie last year. The project will be Munroe's priority after he fulfills his obligations on Dead of Night , the live action Dylan Dog film he's directing for Hyde Park and Platinum Studios (more on that here ). " It's kind of like if Quentin Tarantino did Gremlins , Nettles first told me. I read it and it was exactly that. The horror stuff was at a peak and the characters are really rich," Munroe tells ShockTillYouDrop.com. War Monkeys , based on a story by Chris Patton, follows two guys trapped in an underground research facility with military-trained Rhesus monkeys. Munroe describes the...
