To borrow from Thunderclap Newman, there is something in the air. No, not pumpkin spice lattes. Not those Yankee Candles your mother bought. No,it’s the cozy and creepy tones of John Carpenter‘s signature Halloween score. Hell, if you put your ear to the ground, you might even hear the pulsing, 5/4 beat that gets our blood pumping and the crowd roaring.

Almost Famous is so beloved that even its deleted scenes are widely known — from Frances McDormand cringing to “Stairway to Heaven” to the radio station scene with Kyle Gass. Now, lines from the intimate ice cube scene with Penny Lane and Russell Hammond are being used in a duet for the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Cameron Crowe’s film.
The scene that didn’t make it into the movie takes place after Stillwater lead a group singalong of Thunderclap Newman’s “Something in the Air,” while Anna Paquin’s Polexia...

The nonstop drama of the Trump White House has succeeded, among other things, in largely pushing gun control from the forefront of the news cycle — no doubt to the relief of the NRA and its allies, despite the continued frequency of U.S. mass shootings. As a result, and perhaps unfairly, Kim A. Snyder’s “Us Kids” feels a bit like old news, as it focuses on a school massacre and the subsequent activist tide that occurred less than two years ago, yet somehow already feel distant. Nonetheless, who themselves just survived a school shooting.
Where Snyder’s 2016 “Newtown” held to the perspective of parents grieving after a gunman killed 26 people (including 20 first-graders) at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary in late 2012, “Kids” charts the very different reaction of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Fla., a little over five years later. When another gunman (this time an alumnus...

Nancy Carol Lewis Jones, a publicist for groundbreaking classic rock acts The Who, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and Joe Cocker before becoming Monty Python’s American manager during the group’s film heyday of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian, died December 20, 2019 in New York City after a short illness.
Her death was announced by New York theatrical publicist Adrian Bryan-Brown.
Raised in Detroit by a religiously strict father – he burned her record collection after she sneaked out of the house to watch Elvis Presley’s Ed Sullivan appearance on a friend’s television – Jones became enamored of the British Invasion music scene after reviewing The Dave Clark Five for her college newspaper.
After landing a post-college job at a London music magazine, Jones was approached by the now-legendary Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert, co-managers of The Who, and hired as director of public relations...

My summer has been filled with deep loss. My younger brother David succumbed to major injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 1st. Along with the comfort and love from my family and friends, music was a necessary daily elixir. Many nights I would listen to vinyl in my mother's home, albums I'd left there years ago, or a handful of new/used pieces I picked up at one of my favorite Akron, Oh vinyl shops. The ritual of cleaning each piece, placing it on the turntable, dropping the needle, studying the album art, reading the liner notes... it was a much-needed distraction. Here are three new pieces that have aided me in my latest life's journey.

Throwback
Stars: Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, Melanie Serafin, Vernon Wells, Warren Clements, Andy Bramble | Written and Directed by Travis Bain
There’s seems to be a renaissance in Ozploitation for the bigfoot movie (more commonly known as the Yowie down under), a genre which had, until very recently, died a slow an painful death, becoming as extinct as the very creatures themselves. Of course, if you’ve been reading our reviews here on Nerdly, you’ll know all about There’s Something in the Pilliga – the brilliantly funny “drunk Aussie’s versus Yowie” flick that played last Novembers MonsterFest. Well now we have another example of the genre with Throwback.
The film sees two pest exterminators head into the bush to search for the legendary lost treasure of the bushranger, Thunderclap Newman . The pair find their bounty but what they didn’t count on was an encounter with Australia’s mythical Yowie,...

Here it is; Sound On Sight’s list of our favourite soundtracks released this year. Usually we post a list of 10 to 15 picks, but this time, we decided to only publish five. With that said, we also recorded a bonus Sound On Sight podcast to complement this very article. In it, Simon Howell and I chose 10 of the best tracks from 10 of the best soundtracks for your listening pleasure. You can listen to the podcast here.
Soundtracks that make an appearance on the podcast include Her, The Bling Ring, Afternoon Delight, Sightseers, Frances Ha, Spring Breakers, The World’s End, and Drinking Buddies.
Last year, the soundtrack to Rick Alverson’s cheekily titled The Comedy topped our list. This year, another hipster-indie gem does the same. Here is our list of the top 5 soundtracks of 2013.

Wes (Partner of Danny Roberts)
The Real World: New Orleans’ Danny Roberts(who recently topped our Top 15 Favorite Gay Reality Stars poll) first met his partner Wes in college at the University of Georgia. They were both closeted, so their brief affair was hush-hush.
“Fast forward 10 years and I’m living in New York City and out with friends for my birthday,” Danny tells AfterElton.com. “Guess who approaches me and asks if I remember him? Yep, there’s Wes. My reply was, ‘Of course, you’re the sexy Puerto Rican from college!’ So we started dating casually, but eventually I had to move to Atlanta for a job.

Yesterday's Oprah Winfrey Show focused on "Unconventional, Unforgettable Dads" with an episode that took a look at two single dads and a single mom as well as Wicked author Gregory Maguire and his husband, painter Andy Newman. It was a powerful inclusion from the Queen of Daytime, who treated Maguire and Newman's family not as a political subject, but just another family with a powerful story to tell.
You can check out the film that introduces the Maguire-Newman family to Oprah's audience at the show's website
Maguire and Newman's story was preceded by two single dads who had to deal with tragedy. The first, Larry Shine, lost his wife to cancer when their son was two and a half years old and went on to adopt eight more children over the next several years (it's been at least 16 years since his wife's death, judging from the age of his...
