- In 1921 Nick was Head of the Music Department of Radio Silesia in 1924. It was here that he first met Erich Kästner; Nick wrote the music to a radio play by Kästner which became very successful. This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship.
- He wrote piano works, chamber music, film scores, and music for theatre and radio plays; he is mostly known for his musical comedies and operettas.
- Edmund Nick was only seldom active as a movie composer after the war.
- When he went to Berlin he worked for the cabaret "Die Katakombe". In Berlin he came in touch with the film business and at the beginning of his film career he wrote numerous compositions for short movies and from 1936 also for several feature movies.

- He is the father of authoress and poetess Dagmar Nick.
- Edmund Nick was married with the concert singer Käte Jaenicke (1899 - 1967), and not the actress of the same name who lived from 1923 till 2002).
- He was conductor at the Bavarian state operetta and he was the manager of the department music of the West German radio.
- He began his professional career as a bandmaster in Breslaus, it followed an engagement at the Silesian radio.
- Among others he was a professor at the conservator of music in Munich, and he was a co-founder of the cabaret "Die Schaubude".
- The filmcomposer Edmund Nick studied law but he was already interested in music at that time. Therefore he also joined the Musikakademie in Vienna and later the conservatory in Dresden.
