Ministry Kick Off 2024 Tour in San Francisco with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly: Photos + Video
Ministry kicked off their 2024 North American tour with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly at the historic Warfield Theater in San Francisco on Tuesday evening (February 27th), just three days before the release of their 16th studio album, Hopiumforthemasses. As it had been a few months since Ministry were on the road, they were definitely refreshed and re-energized, delivering a set of both new and classic songs to a near sold-out venue.
Ministry wasted no time playing the new stuff, as they kicked off their set with five songs from Hopiumforthemasses, beginning with the singles “B.D.E.” (Big Dick Energy) and “Just Stop Oil.” Frontman and ring leader Al Jourgensen was his usual frantic self, belting out the lyrics while engaging with the fans up against the barricade. After a blistering version of “Goddam White Trash,” he and the band were joined by Jello Biafra for “Aryan Embarrassment” (a...

Ministry have unleashed the latest song from their upcoming album, Hopiumforthemasses. The new track, titled “B.D.E.” (aka “Big Dick Energy”), takes aim at toxic misogyny and violence against women.
“The incel subsect and general misogynistic tendencies in our society are dangerous yet seem to fly under the radar so we figured it’s time to shine a light on it,” stated Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen of the track. “In true Ministry fashion, we battle it with sarcasm.”
Hopiumforthemasses, which arrives on March 1st, recently made our list of the 30 Most Anticipated Metal & Hard Rock Albums of 2024. The LP’s previous single, “Just Stop Oil,” came in at No. 7 on our list of the 30 Best Metal & Hard Rock Songs of 2023.

Ministry have unveiled the track “Just Stop Oil” as the latest single from their upcoming album, Hopiumforthemasses, which is set for release on March 1st.
The new song follows the album’s first single, “Goddamn White Trash,” which arrived in August along with the announcement of the new LP. As is evident in the title, “Just Stop Oil” is political in tone, with Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen stating, “Ministry approves this message and the movement behind it. Enough is Enough!”
While “Just Stop Oil” doesn’t feature any guests, other tracks on the album boast appearances by Pepper Keenan, Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello), and Jello Biafra.
Ministry will support the album with a previously announced headlining 2024 North American tour featuring support from Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly. The outing kicks off in late February, with tickets available here.

After an agonizing cancellation due to inclimate weather, Siouxsie Sioux was finally able to perform her first U.S. shows in 15 years Sunday night, May 21, as part of the Eighties-geared Cruel World festival.
Fans lucky enough to catch the show have started sharing videos from the concert, including a show-closing encore of the 1980 Siouxsie and the Banshees song, “Israel.” The last time Siouxsie had performed the song was 2013, at Yoko Ono’s Meltdown Festival in London.

In 1980, Canada delivered one of the most mind boggling slasher films of all time. Terror Train, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, threw Halloween, Friday the 13th, Animal House, Runaway Train and stage magic into a body bag, shook it up and dumped out a glorious Frankenstein monstrosity featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and David Copperfield. Forty-two years later, this classic oddity gets a modern yet mostly faithful retelling courtesy director Philippe Gagnon.
The premise is exactly the same: a well-to-do fraternity holds a Halloween bash on a privately chartered train only to have their numbers picked off one-by-one. There’s a mysterious magician, played by Tom Rozon in the finest Gary Numan impersonation ever, and an angry killer bent on revenge for the misdeeds of said fraternity. Costumes exchange and body counts rise as both guests and train employees realize someone is out to get them. The main difference is a twist...

‘Choose or Die’ Review: A Video Game Kills Without Rhyme or Reason in This Disposable Netflix Horror
Even the smallest feature-length film is a considerable logistical enterprise, so it’s a bit flummoxing how little thought appears to have been put into “Choose or Die.” While there have been worse-crafted, even more routinely formulaic Netflix horror efforts, this one takes the cake for sheer whateverness of barely-there plot, concept, character detailing and so on. If some movies now seem designed to be consumed on phones, this one demands so little attention, for such scant rewards, you could probably watch it while vacuuming or doing yoga without missing anything important.
Not that first-time feature director Toby Meakins or his cast do slipshod work. But their labors are expended on a “viral” curse premise so indifferently defined and developed, the result recalls the archaic term “quota quickie,” which referred to low-budget 1930s British films made by Parliamentary decree just to keep the industry chugging. “Choose or Die” may substitute supernatural deaths for music-hall songs,...

Gary Numan warns of devastating climate change and the hypocrisy of religion in the new video for “Saints and Liars,” the latest single from the new wave pioneer’s upcoming album Intruder.

Gary Numan has released a new song, “Intruder,” the title track from his upcoming album, out May 21st.
The song boasts an ominous industrial stomp, although there’s an eerily serene edge to the vocal melodies as Numan shows his continued knack for pop craftsmanship. The accompanying video, directed by Chris Corner, finds Numan delivering a dramatic performance of “Intruder” in a setting where futuristic tech seems to collide with the natural world.

Happy birthday to Linda Ronstadt’s New Wave album Mad Love, released 40 years ago, in March 1980. It’s the weirdest oddity in her catalog, with three Elvis Costello covers. Mad Love is forgotten by time, written out of her official history. Not even Linda has a kind word for this album. One day, 50 years ago, a solicitor walking to work through Waterloo station in London noticed a 30ft-tall woman. She was dressed in an unzipped scuba top and was brandishing a knife drawn from a scabbard strapped to her bare thigh. It was his daughter. “Dad knew I was going to be the Lamb’s Navy Rum girl, but not that I would be on a billboard,” says Caroline Munro. “He said it was a bit of a shock.”
Over the next decade, Munro’s parents got used to seeing their daughter writ large and wearing smalls. There she was on the cover of the Music for Pleasure Hot Hits 11 album, practising archery in a bikini and knee-high suede boots.

It’s fair to say that director Gaspar Noé polarizes opinion. It’s a fact that he seems to revel in and play upon, and the distributors of his films implement this polarity into their press and marketing strategies. "You despised I Stand Alone, you hated Irreversible, you loathed Enter The Void, you cursed Love. Now try Climax."1 A superb and audacious technical craftsman whose work is able to authentically replicate the sensation of losing control, there was the sense that with Love (2015) the director had exhausted the patience of even his most ardent supporters. Noé’s work, with its interest in sex, drugs, violence and hedonism thrives on the ability to shock, and with his first three features he achieved a thrilling if uncomfortable talent for taking the viewer on a long, slow but strangely bracing descent to hellish depths. The sexually explicit Love however singularly failed on every level.

MTV Raps’ and much more. To celebrate 30 years, Rolling Stone’s Best of ’88 explores the 10 greatest songs from those explosive 12 months. See our previous entries on Rob Base and D.J. Beck recruited Jenny Lewis on Tuesday for an expertly timed live cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon.” The concert at the idyllic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, Colorado happened to mark the real-life Harvest Moon, the full moon occurring closest to the autumnal equinox, as Brooklyn Vegan notes.
The two singers offered a low-key, slightly ramshackle take on Young’s 1992 track, alternating between unison and harmony over strummed acoustic guitar and a melancholy mandolin melody.

Gary Numan canceled his Cleveland, Ohio concert Monday night after the rocker’s tour bus was involved in a “fatal accident” that resulted in the death of a 91-year-old man.
Cleveland police told News 5 Cleveland (via Pitchfork) that the unidentified elderly man was pushing a cart through a crosswalk on Superior Avenue near East 9th Street – close to the city’s House of Blues venue, where Numan was scheduled to perform Monday – when the tour bus turned right and made contact with the 91-year-old man, who died at the scene.

Beck brought out special guest Gary Numan to perform his 1979 hit “Cars” during the Odelay singer’s headlining set at Chicago’s Riot Fest Saturday.
Beck and his backing group routinely perform a snippet of “Cars” during band member introductions on their ongoing Colors Tour, but on Saturday the band whipped out a full, faithful rendition of The Pleasure Principle standout with Numan at the helm, with Beck occasionally singing but mostly dancing along.

Radiohead’s summer U.S. tour seems designed to prove a few self-evident truths. For one thing, In Rainbows remains their hands-down best album, though all votes for Kid A will be counted and “There There” is their peak song. For another thing: They’ve remembered how much fun it is to be the World’s Greatest Rock Band, to the point where their live show is a mad career-capping rush of exuberant energy. Their four-night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden last week was one for the ages.

If there’s one defining quality of the cinema of Gaspar Noé, aside from shots of ejaculating penises in 3D, it’s definitely impatience. His new film, “Climax” even begins impatiently, interrupting its Arte logo with a staticky video smash cut (the “record needle scratch” of Noé’s aesthetic) into its opening scene. This striking high overhead of a bleeding girl screaming and dragging herself through a pristine snowscape, will not be the last time “Climax” will deal so directly in slasher-movie imagery, a reference helped along by the clever use of Gary Numan‘s synthy-slick arrangement of Eric Satie‘s “Trois Gymnopedies.”

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (Omd) has always embraced the future. Formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, the duo hobnobbed with post-punk innovators, opening for Joy Division and Gary Numan in its early days, while distinguishing itself through its use of then-cutting-edge technology. As the ’80s…

Matt Smith called head honchos at the BBC before the newest Doctor was announced, begging to know who was being cast in the role...
Very few people can call up the BBC, beg to find out who the latest Doctor will be, and get an answer, but one of the people who can - and did - was former Doctor Matt Smith.

After teasing fans throughout the year with enticing singles like “Sort It Out Sharon” and “Ingrid Is A Hybrid,” Dusky have finally released their long awaited follow up album to 2011’s Stick By This. The UK based electronic duo deliver big on Outer, offering up a diverse collection of eleven tracks that run the gamut from house to techno and everything in between.
Dusky set our expectations for the new effort with a sprawling ambient intro on “All We Ever Needed,” making it clear from the get go that Outer has been designed to be heard as a true album and not just a collection of dancefloor bangers. Up next is “Tiers,” a memorable entry that features somber synth progressions and minimal techno beats. Cuts like “Runny Nose” and “Songs Of Phase” bring the energy with mechanical rhythms and fat basslines, contrasting some of the album’s gentler moments.

The musical trailblazer’s life story is an interesting one, but this documentary chooses to focus on his housing arrangements
There’s the hint of an interesting film here, in this portrait of electropop pioneer Gary Numan. His mental health issues, his Asperger’s diagnosis, his complex relationship with fame: all of this is touched upon rather cursorily. Instead the film focuses on real estate and Numan’s move from the UK to the Us. It’s like a celebrity version of APlace in the Sun.

★★★☆☆ Coming out of the punk explosion of the 1970s, Gary Numan had a series of hits such as Are "Friends" Electric? and Cars, which saw him hit international fame, quickly become a millionaire and inspire a devoted following. Critically lambasted, he did himself no favours supporting Maggie Thatcher and giving interviews about his love of flying. The Moog-centric electronic sound ended up - like anything futuristic - dating rapidly and for the last thirty years Numan has pursued his own rather solitary path while at the same time having to handle the pressures of being in the 'where are they now' bin.

It’s been a few months since Dusky announced their upcoming album, Outer, but the effort finally has an official release date and track list. Due on September 30th, the effort will consist of 11 songs that push the London duo’s stylistic boundaries.
In addition, Dusky have uploaded their second single from the effort: “Sort It Out Sharon.” Unfortunately, the track’s synthesis between techno and UK grime (owing in no small part to emotive verses by British emcee Wiley) comes across as forced compared to what they delivered previously with “Ingrid Is A Hybrid.”
Noteworthy features on the upcoming album include UK DJ/producer Pedestrian on “Spruce” and Solomon Grey on “Long Wait.” In addition, Dusky’s own Alfie Granger-Howell has contributed vocals on “Marble.”
Dusky‘s Outer still has two and a half months before its release, so it stands to reason that the duo will allow more...

Glenn here and welcome back to Doc Corner. Each Tuesday we're bringing reviews and features on documentaries from theatres, festivals, and on demand. This week we’re looking at films that screened at the just-ended SXSW about musical icon Gary Numan, self-helper Tony Robbins, and mature-age trans women.
Gary Numan: Android in La La Land
You know I hate to ask
But are 'friends' electric?
Only mine's broke down
And now I've no-one to love
Like many artists of Numan’s vintage who were experimenting with electronic music, there was a queerness to him, an otherness that the made him a symbol to hordes of young audiences who had never seen or heard anything like him before. He was a musician whose dark and complex lyrics were perfectly paired with the aloof roboticism of his performance – an android dreaming of the electric beeps and boops of a Moog synthesizer. But...

Before we dive in to this week’s revoltin’ reviews, I’d like to call attention to a fright flick exploding (quite literally) onto yer TV screens from those diabolical dudes atNecrostorm titled The Mildew From Planet Xonader! Now I worked on this flick, and I am damn proud of the outcome, so I really want to give ya taste of what the whole shebang is all about!
Some of you more astute creeps may remember I’ve talked about this film here before, but now I’ve had the chance to lay my putrid peepers on it, and I can assure you it’s an ultra-gory good time (and not just because my alter-ego provides some vicious voices for the goings-on).
The story goes a lil’ somethin’ like this: deep within the bowels of a top-secret research facility, scientists have been conducting experiments with a rapid-spread mildew capable of...

Two decades ago, X-Files composer Mark Snow produced a compilation dubbed Songs in the Key of X: Music From and Inspired by the X-Files that included tunes by Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, P.M. Dawn and William S. Burroughs with R.E.M., among others. It also contained a cover of Gary Numan's echoey, new-wavey "Down in the Park" by some alt-rock upstarts calling themselves Foo Fighters, whose frontman was an X-Files megafan. That same year, he got the chance to appear on the show.

BBC Three put Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s wilfully shambolic live act and radio series, The Mighty Boosh, on TV…
Part of The Mighty Boosh’s delight comes from its unlikelihood as a TV sitcom. Its boundless Day-Glo imagination isn’t an immediate fit with the constraints of the form. A sunshine simpleton and his awkward, jazz-obsessed colleague meet mythic monsters and talking animals while performing expertly observed musical parody? It’s not exactly My Family.
As comedian, writer, and director of Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s 1999 Edinburgh show Arctic Boosh, Stewart Lee, put it, “No television exec would ever have gone ‘What we need is a kind of purple head with tentacles coming out of it which speaks like a member of the Small Faces’”.
And yet a television exec did. Granted, probably not in those exact words. After Danny Wallace opened the door...
