With Play Blackpool only a day or so away, we’re getting excited for our second trip to a Play convention (we attended last years Manchester event, which was a fantastic success) but, of course, there are some folks who’ll need a little more persuading as to just why they should attend such an event – if not for the experience alone…
1) The Games (of course)
Play Blackpool 2015 features an exclusive first UK hands on preview of SkySaga: Infinite Isles. Which, for retro-gaming fans, is the welcome return of the ‘The Oliver Twins’ who, in the 1980s, developed several hugely successful franchises including the ‘Dizzy’ adventures and the ‘Simulator’ series. Chief Technical Officer Andrew Oliver will also give a developer talk and take part in a Q&A session about the game and its progress.
Also at Play will be a PS4 Zone, featuring loads of cool Psn titles such...

With GRID2 out now, we chart the development of Codemasters' racing heritage, from BMX Simulator to the present...
Last April, Codemasters announced that it was to abandon other genres in order to focus exclusively on racing games. For those with fond memories of Codemasters' long history, which included budget action adventures like the Dizzy series, quirky management games like Rock Star Ate My Hamster, or maybe the Brian Lara Cricket series, it might have seemed like the end of an era. Yet since its very earliest days, racing games have formed a key part of the British publisher and developer.
From an early age, siblings Richard and David Darling had an interest in computers, and were selling their own games via classified ads in magazines by the early 1980s. Before they founded Codemasters, they were selling games to the UK publisher Mastertronic; the Darlings'...

Sony will carry the bulk of the industry 3-D console buzz into E3 next week, and Nintendo with do the same for portable gaming with its 3Ds. Microsoft has been fairly quiet on the subject, however, focusing mainly on their Project Natal unveiling. They may join the pack sooner rather than later, though, if a report out of the U.K is true.
"Microsoft are going to be making an announcement about it at some point soon," Blitz Games Studios co-founder Andrew Oliver said at a Westminster eForum event in London, according to Develop. He also indicated that the 360 is already equipped for 3-D displays; it just needs an update.
"Our game did come out in 3-D on the Xbox 360, so 3-D is possible, even through an Hdmi 1.2 cable," Oliver explained. "Ubisoft created Avatar, which includes a mode for 3-D on a 3-D TV. It is just a case of...

Blitz Games Studios co-founder Andrew Oliver has claimed that the pre-owned market is more damaging to the industry than software piracy. According to the exec, when a game changes hands multiple times the publisher's royalties can be effectively quartered. "I understand why players do this, games are expensive and after a few weeks of playing you've either beaten it, or got bored of it so trading it back in to help pay for the next seems sensible when people are short of cash," he told (more)...
