Busy Philipps has good reason to believe in psychics.
“I’m psychic,” the “Freaks and Geeks” actor says during an appearance on the July 24 episode of the podcast “Ghosted! by Roz Hernandez.”
What?
“Well, I think I’m very intuitive,” Philipps explains. “But sometimes I just know things are going to happen. I sort of just see things in the future and then I have a lot of really psychic connections with people.”
If that’s not enough bizarreness, “Ghosted!” host Hernandez says she and her best friend, “A Million Things” star Sam Pancake, once came face-to-face with a murderer while housesitting for Philipps. “You and Sam thwarted the murderer from coming to my home,” Philipps said.
Hernandez recalled, “I’m wandering my eyes around and I see a man starting into the window at me! It’s the thing I’ll never forget. I was staring him in the eyes.

Celebrities, they’re just like us. Lauren Graham found fame with Gilmore Girls and became known for her quirky characters. However, Graham isn’t immune to being star-struck despite her fame and success as an actor.
Graham recently revealed that she was so star-struck with Bernadette Peters that she wandered into the Broadway star’s fitting while working on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Lauren Graham on meeting Bernadette Peters
Peters is a star, and it’s understandable that even fellow celebrities worship her talent. Gilmore Girls star Graham recently sat down with Sam Pancake to talk about her years in show business. When Pancake asked if they pre-recorded all the numbers they did on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Graham replied in the affirmative.
She, however, clarified that the only person who didn’t do so was Peters, saying the Emmy nominee sang all her songs live and in one take.

The iconic show Gilmore Girls had a whole cast of characters that seemed so real that fans miss them still. One of those unforgettable characters was Lorelai, played by actor Lauren Graham. She was a hardworking single mom who always had time for her daughter Rory–except for when it came to cooking. Lorelai’s motherly skills didn’t extend to the kitchen, which seemed to work just fine for them.

However, Graham’s approach to cooking is definitely different from the character she played. According to a friend of hers, she has some mad skills in the kitchen.
Lorelai never seemed to cook
One of the things that made Gilmore Girls so special was how much of the characters’ personalities were clear on screen, so viewers felt like they really knew them. And one of Lorelai’s quirks was a complete lack of interest in cooking.

Fans speculate Lauren Graham’s educational background might have bled into the personality of her brilliant, on-screen daughter Rory Gilmore. In the hit series Gilmore Girls, Rory’s character is a shy, book-smart, Ivy League-bound teen.
It’s not just Graham’s advanced reading skills and college choices that closely resemble Rory’s. Her single-parent upbringing and steadfast goal-setting are also reflected in Alexis Bledel’s character, Rory.

Throughout her childhood, it was rare to see Graham without a book in her hand. She calls herself a “really serious reader” and credits her dad’s storytelling skills with her ability to read so early. Her Kindergarten teacher quickly realized that Graham had some advanced skills when she caught Graham reading a story to the whole class.

Lauren Graham is one of those actors who appeals to everyone, regardless of their age. Her starring role in the TV show Gilmore Girls earned her a place in pop culture history, and her recent string of dramatic acting parts has only served to solidify her status as an icon. Graham has earned a reputation as an open book, always willing to open up and share information about her life and experiences with fans. Over the past several years, she has related the story of her rescue dog Mochi, who she ended up having to rehome for a very unexpected reason.

Carole King is woven into the Gilmore Girls universe so much that it’s difficult to note her involvement. The singer not only cameoed, but she also was the voice behind the show’s iconic theme song. King also appeared in A Year in the Life and had a private concert with cast members.

Gilmore Girls ran from 2000 until it ended in 2007. Gg returned nine years after its ending for a special miniseries called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and brought back almost every cast member. Although King wasn’t a core cast member, she is still technically a huge part of it, and her appearance in an episode of the miniseries Ayitl proves that.
Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore in the series, sat down with Sam Pancake to discuss her career.

"And that's when I decided - enough is enough." Netflix has unveiled the dazzling official trailer for an indie dramatic comedy titled Dumplin', the latest from filmmaker Anne Fletcher. The film is about a teen named Willowdean, the plus-size daughter of a former pageant queen who decides to enter the beauty contest herself in protest, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town. Jennifer Aniston stars with Danielle Macdonald (who also appeared in Patti Cake$) as Will. The cast includes Odeya Rush, Dove Cameron, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Luke Benward, Harold Perrineau, Joshua Eads-Brown, Sam Pancake, and Dan Finnerty. This looks like a joyously energetic and spirited film, better than I was expecting it to look. Might be worth a watch when it's released. "Use more marshmallows!" Lionsgate has unveiled a new trailer for a mockumentary comedy titled Cook Off!, making fun of cooking competitions. This was actually filmed over a decade ago, and it first premiered at the Us Comedy Arts Festival Aspen back in 2007. Somehow it has been sitting on a shelf all these years, and yet is just now getting an official release thanks to Lionsgate. The huge ensemble cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Wendy McLendon-Covey, Ben Falcone, Niecy Nash, Jennifer Cox, Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Louie Anderson, Gary Anthony Williams, Jennifer Elise Cox, Cathryn Michon, Markie Post, and Sam Pancake. This definitely does have a Christopher Guest-esque vibe, with a cast of eccentric goofballs all makin' food under one roof. I'm just curious as to why it took so long to get a release. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Cathryn Michon & Guy Shalem's Cook Off!, direct from YouTube:...

Space Station 76
Directed by Jack Plotnick
Written by Jennifer Elise Cox, Sam Pancake, Jack Plotnick, Kali Rocha, and Michael Stoyanov
Space Station 76 begins with a narration musing on the impermanence and isolation of asteroidal paths. It’s the overarching metaphor in a film that is hilariously set in a nostalgic, 1970s version of the future and populated with hurt, dysfunctional, and yearning characters.
Glen (Patrick Wilson) is the alcoholic, abrasive, and suicidal captain of the Omega 76; Jessica (Liv Tyler) is new aboard and although much more competent than her counterparts, she is struggling with her own maternal inabilities; Ted (Matt Bomer) is an earnest but naive mechanic who lives with Misty (Marisa Coughlan), his philandering wife, and their lonely, precocious daughter Sunshine (Kylie Rogers). Together, this motley cast of characters explores what it means to live in a future built on expectations from the past. What happens when...

Sundance just ended, and we are already preparing for the next big film festival, South By Southwest. Not too long ago, the festival announced a few of the films premiering this year, but now they’ve announced the main slate. The midnight selections and some inevitable late-breaking additions are still to be announced, but this should be more than enough to get you excited. Along with many World Premieres, and Sundance favorites like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, the line up also includes an anniversary screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and an extended Q&A screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel with Wes Anderson. SXSW 2014 runs March 7 through 15 in Austin, Texas. Check out the line up after the jump.

After announcing earlier this month that Jon Favreau’s Chef and the Veronica Mars movie will be making their world debuts at SXSW this year, the festival has revealed its full line-up, including further very promising world premieres, alongside appearances from some of the year’s most high-profile films.
The Midnight programme will be announced early next month, along with the Shorts line-up, and the complete Conference slate a little later as well.
Led by Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Nicholas Stoller’s anticipated R-rated comedy, Neighbors, will be making its world debut at the festival, notably marked out as a ‘work-in-progress’ ahead of its theatrical release in May.
David Gordon Green’s acclaimed Joe will make its Us premiere, having bowed at Venice and then Toronto last year. Early reviews have Nicolas Cage giving one of the finest performances of his career, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) excellent alongside him.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.

As you’ve probably heard by now, the fabulous Jane Lynch is on Broadway and drawing rave reviews as the villainous Miss Hannigan in the Annie revival now at The Palace Theater.
(Lynch is only performing through July 14th, so you only have a couple weeks to catch her! Tickets here.)
I thought this was a great time to look back at some Jane Lynch career highlights. And guess what? I’m leaving Sue Sylvester off this list. Great a creation as it is, I’m burned out on Sue Sylvester. You probably are too.
So rather than let Sue and her track suit define and delimit the amazing talents of Jane Lynch, let’s celebrate five other pop culture contributions from this amazing performer.
5. Christy Cummings, the lesbian dog handler from Best In Show (2000)
The first time I ever noticed Jane Lynch was in Christopher Guest‘s mockumentary about fanatical purebred dog owners.

The world may be getting introduced to a brand new sitcom with a focus on food. The Waffle Hut is a comedy surrounding the many characters that work and visit a small-town waffle house diner. The show stars an array of comedic talent, including Wendi McLendon-Covey, Colleen Camp, Melanie Hutsell, Beth Crosby, Jack Plotnick, Sam Pancake and Drew Droege.
The Waffle Hut pilot was written and directed by William Butler. It was shot last year but the trailer seems to have gained some popularity in the last few days. It doesn't look like Waffle Hut has been picked up by a network yet, but it seems like it is still being shopped around.
Check out the trailer for Waffle Hut below! ...

It’s December, so if it means anything it’s that there are a slew of holiday-themed movies on our TVs this time of year. One of them, Lifetime’s Holly’s Holiday, comes to us from out director Jim Fall, who has brought us such fabulous films as Trick and Wedding Wars as well as Tori Spelling’s So NoTORIous series.
AfterElton sat down with the director to talk about how you put the gay in a Lifetime movie, his thoughts on the state of gay films and (gasp!) he spilled the beans to us about picking up with Christian Campbell and Jp Pitoc in a sequel to Trick.
AfterElton: Holiday films are so specific in a lot of ways but as a director do you approach them differently than you would another project?...

Daniel Craig shares an erotically charged scene with Javier Bardem's villain in Skyfall, with Bardem stroking Bond's chest. Asked if he felt it had to do with the villain's sexuality, Craig said "What are you going to do? I don't see the world in sexual divisions. Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I'm like, I think he'll f**k anything."
When Rep. Paul Ryan stopped by a soup kitchen in Ohio, it was an unplanned stop, and the head of the charity isn't happy about it. The kitchen is funded by private donations, and is apolitical to keep the money flowing. “Had they asked for permission, it wouldn’t have been granted. … But I certainly wouldn’t have let him wash clean pans, and then take a picture."

Happy Thanksgiving, people of the web! While the turducken is in the oven, pop open the laptop and consume some tryptophan-free web content before a family member sends you on a grocery run for gravy. This week, ’90s television stars awkwardly resurface, the elvin assassin wraps up her video-game inspired series, the crooner behind “Smelly Cat” logs back on and soap superstar Genie Francis turns up on a wacky mockumentary. Go ahead, be thankful.

If you haven’t seen or heard of it, Half-Share, a show about six gay men vacationing on Fire Island, is hilarious. But as Edge Media editor Steve Weinstein noted, it may be “the funniest sitcom you’ll never see on TV.” Despite praise from audiences at festivals and screenings, Half-Share, like most pilots, remains unsold. At a panel Weinstein organized at New York's Lgbt Community Center, creator Sean Hanley, Here Media’s Josh Rosenzweig, Logo TV’s Christopher Willey and Us Weekly’s Bradley Jacobs, got together to discuss why gay cable networks in particular are having a difficult time with scripted content, despite seeming demand. "Don't you think a gay network needs a signature show?" asked Hanley, referring to the rise of nondescript reality television on cable. Hanley, a TV alum (The Nanny), produced the half-hour pilot independently to pitch to television networks. Having screened at the multiple festivals,...

Allison Strong, Union City, N.J."April showers bring May flowers." Imagine that phrase was a song that summed up the rainbow highs and lows of my past year. Press play. On April 30, 2009, I lost my grandmother—one of the biggest loves of my life and the Auntie Mame of my small family. A few weeks before Christmas 2008, she suffered two strokes that left her completely paralyzed, and six months later a third one took her from us. Mamita, as we all lovingly called her, was a youthful 94 years old. Now stop and press repeat. On April 9, I lost my 13-year-old sheepdog-terrier mutt, Magic, to prostate cancer. We had known since July that his cancer was aggressive, but since he outlived the local vet's expectations, we shrugged it off as a misdiagnosis. But after an impromptu visit to my veterinarian cousin Marcy in Brooklyn the first week of April, my...
