Currently making the transition from child actor to teen actor – presumably with the hopes of becoming a fully-realised adult actor – Asa Butterfield has another project to assist on his career path. Per THR, the Hugo star has now bagged the lead role in Relativity’s sci-fi effort, Out Of This World.
The rising star will be directed by Peter Chelsom (Hector and the Search for Happiness), who himself will be working from revisions he and Tinker Linsday made to Allan Loeb’s (Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps) original script. As the film is in the early stages, Butterfield is the only cast member confirmed. He will be playing a young teen who discovers that the opportunity to know his real father may still be in his grasp.
Check out the plot summary below:

ABC is making a rather interesting and eclectic choice with Tuesday's (Jan. 29) pilot orders. The picks range from a show based on the Big Thunder Mountain ride in the Disney theme parks to the monsters of gothic novels (like "Frankenstein") come to life. Altogether, four drama pilots were ordered.
A project based on Big Thunder Mountain will be set in a mining town in the 19th century. A brilliant New York City doctor and his family relocate there, where a mysterious tycoon runs the show. All will not be what it seems. Jason Fuchs and Chris Morgan wrote the pilot and will executive produce.
"Gothica" is a supernatural, gothic, soapy drama set in the present day but featuring many of the monsters of the 19th century. Legendary figures like Dracula, Dorian Gray, Frankenstein (not sure if it's the monster or the man), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde all feature.

Ryan Reynolds and Allan Loeb's recently launched TV company DarkFire has made its first sale, and it was a quick one. The comedy project Guidance, from feature writer Tim Dowling (Just Go With It, Role Models), was just taken out by 20th TV where DarkFire has a first-look deal. In their first stop at Fox, the network took the show off the market and the rest of the pitch meetings were canceled. Tyler Labine (Reaper, Mad Love) is attached to star in and produce Guidance, which is described as an adult buddy comedy set in high school. Reynolds has been very involved in the project, which has received a put pilot commitment from Fox, including attending pitch meetings. He is executive producing with the rest of the DarkFire principals, Loeb, Steven Pearl and Jonathon Komack Martin. Dowling has ties to both Loeb and Reynolds. He co-wrote comedy feature Just Go With It...

Exclusive: Actor Ryan Reynolds and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps writer Allan Loeb have launched a TV company together. The company, DarkFire, will be based at 20th Century Fox TV with a two-year first-look deal. The company will focus on developing comedy projects, primarily single-camera and mostly for the broadcast networks, with Loeb himself set to write at least one pilot script a year. DarkFire's name blends the monikers of Reynolds' shingle with producing partner Jonathon Komack Martin, Dark Trick Films, and Loeb's company with partner Steven Pearl, Scarlet Fire. Martin and Pearl will run DarkFire, which also will hire a dedicated TV executive as the two will continue to be involved in their separate companies' film business. It was Martin and Pearl, who have been friends for 20 years, that first introduced Reynolds and Loeb to each other. As a result, their companies set out to collaborate on A Boy Named Sue,...

As part of SyFy’s largest original programming in the network’s eighteen-year history, SyFy will premiere four scripted dramas this coming July beginning with brand new show, Alphas, leading the pack. July is packed with the return of summer scripted dramas Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Haven.
Check out the official description for Alphas and take a whiff at what SyFy is cooking in terms of scripted dramas and reality TV in development. With Stargate Universe and Caprica off the table, the network is sure keen on developing programming that expands the scope of what we’re used to at SyFy. Looking at ratings for the first quarter of 2011, the network has experienced a 17% increase in adults 18-34 and 13% in total viewers with the launch of new shows, Being Human and Face-Off.
At least the BSG story doesn’t stop with Caprica. SyFy is still developing Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome,...

SyFy apparently has been stashing all the money it makes from professional wrastling since the network announced (I refuse to use the word "unveil," it sounds ritualistic, creepy, and moist) its new lineup, consisting of more original content than they've ever hosted before. Well, they use the hyperbolic "in history" which I just don't think should be used for a network that wouldn't even be able to drink for another three years if it was a person. Let's take a few choice bits from the press release and then flip through the new shows.
The press release starts with: "Continuing the sizzling momentum of the Syfy global brand evolution, which has sparked imagination-driven hit series and double-digit growth in younger, upscale audiences as well as diverse new business ventures..."

“Entourage,” the show that turned our favorite “Pcu” star Jeremy Piven into a household name, comes to a close in 2011, which means it’s time to find another gig. As far as PR moves go, starring alongside pop star Miley Cyrus isn’t the worst decision.
An announcement (tracked down by Comingsoon.net) adds Piven to “So Undercover,” an action-comedy starring Cyrus as a private investigator hired by the FBI to infiltrate a college sorority. Crazy hijinks ensue.
The fast-talking Piven will play Special Agent Armon who we can only assume finds himself in awkward situations inside the sorority house. If it were anyone else, watching a grown man hiding in the closet of a college co-ed may be unbearable, lowest-denominator material, but Piven has talent. The man can turn subpar into…par.
