Chicago – Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr.’s “New in Town,” now on DVD and Blu-Ray, was a massive bomb in theaters, opening in 8th place and grossing only $17 million, less than any widely-released Zellweger film in her entire career.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0 I only mention this because so few people have seen the film that they may be drawn to it at Blockbuster or in their Netflix queue. “New in Town” isn’t nearly as painful as I expected it to be but the horrendous script sink all the best efforts of the reasonably charming Renee and always-good Harry.
New in Town was released on Blu-Ray on May 26th, 2009.

On paper, “New in Town” sounds promising. Zellweger plays Lucy Hill, a tough-as-nails executive who takes on an assignment at a manufacturing plant in Minnesota. Transplanted from the sunny beaches of Miami to the frozen tundra of the great North,...

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.
The plot: A Florida businesswoman's stay in a small Minnesota town changes for the better when she falls in love with the local labor union rep.
Our thoughts: In Jonas Elmer’s “New in Town,” Renee Zellweger plays Lucy Hill, a successful Miami consultant whose life takes a drastic turn when she’s sent to a small Minnesota town to oversee the restructuring of a manufacturing plant. Lucy really despises the place and its inhabitants at first, but once she gets better acquainted with a local labor union rep (Harry Connick Jr.), things change quicker than she could have ever imagined…...

The wintry New Ulm, Minnesota is the setting of the film .New in Town.. But this supposed warm romantic comedy left me cold like its arctic backdrop.
Renee Zelwegger stars as Lucy Hill, an ambitious female executive based in Miami. She.s trying desperately to climb the corporate ladder so when the opportunity arrives for her to ascend, she gladly takes it.
But that opportunity will make Lucy move from the warm Miami to the blistery cold New Ulm. What.s a tropical girl to do?
Written by Kenneth Rance and C. Jay Cox, the script is so steeped with Minnesota clichés that I felt bad for its inhabitants. All the residents talk like Frances McDormand.s character, Marge Gunderson, in .Fargo..
Incidentally, Lucy.s assistant in the film is named Blanche Gunderson (Siobhan Fallon Hogan). Is this the filmmakers. homage to the far better .Fargo?...

Three distinct genres try their luck. After debuting earlier this year in France, 20th Century Fox finally releases the eagerly anticipated crime actioner "Taken" on January 30th. The intense film is helmed by Pierre Morel, known for the indie gem "District B13" and helmer of the upcoming "From Paris with Love" starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. "Taken" stars Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Jon Gries and is written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. What's it about? “I don’t know you who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you’re looking for a ransom, I can tell you, I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills acquired over a very long career in the shadows, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now,...

"New in Town" will be available to be seen by the entire family. On Tuesday, January 20, Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films announced that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has toned down the rating of the romantic comedy from Danish film director Jonas Elmer from PG-13 to PG.
The new rating was given by the MPAA after the Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films mutually agreed to cut out the scenes with profanity. In a statement from both studios, the decision to delete strong language was taken to make the film "accessible and acceptable to the entire family", especially since it "has received strong early word-of-mouth from family-friendly audiences".
Pairing up Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr., "New in Town" tells the story of Lucy Hill, an ambitious, up-and-coming executive living in Miami who encounters a life-changing experience when taking a temporary assignment in the middle of nowhere. Written by...
