Universal and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a bona fide blockbuster.
The Nintendo video game adaptation is now on course to gross $80 million in its second weekend of play at the domestic box office from 4,371 theaters, notably more than expected and representing a drop of just 45 percent. By the end of Sunday, the PG pic will sit at a projected $340.8 million domestically and $318.6 million overseas for a jaw-dropping global tally of $659.4 million.
The animated sensation smashed numerous records in its launch over the long Easter holiday. And by mid-week, Mario zoomed past Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to rank as the top-grossing movie of the year to date at the domestic, international and worldwide box office. It’s also now the No. 1 video game adaptation of all time after passing up Warcraft ($439.4 million) and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu ($449.8 million).

A flurry of new movies will hit North American cinemas this weekend in what marks one of the most varied and crowded lineups since the pandemic struck.
None, however, have a chance of toppling holdover The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Nintendo video game adaptation should earn at least $55 million to $60 million domestically in its sophomore outing after debuting to an astounding $206.4 million over the long Easter holiday, including $146.6 million for the three-day weekend. That put its global launch at $375.6 million.
From Illumination and Universal, the animated sensation smashed numerous records in its launch. And there’s more to come.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards took place last night, in a show that was a vast improvement from last year's chaotic hybrid of in-person and virtual celebration. The awarded stars were all together for the ceremony for the first time since Covid-19 reared their ugly head, with folks like (seemingly only) Bill Hader wisely accessorizing his tuxedo with a K95 mask. We love and support an immunocompromised king.
Kenan Thompson hosted the festivities, delivering a reliable, and unproblematic performance, a far cry from the usual forced clowning of other award show hosts. His opening monologue was pretty standard fare, joking about how we'd all rather watch TV than read, followed by an extravagant musical salute (with some killer choreography) to some of the most beloved shows in TV history, while simultaneously delivering some well deserved roasts, like how "Friends" is a whitewashed version of "Living Single."
The Emmys also tried a new feature this year,...

Harlem is a vibrant and multicultural community, so it's fitting that the cast of Harlem matches that same energy. Some criticism of the Amazon Prime series drew from the fact that none of the four leading actors are members of that community. While Shoniqua Shandai was born in New York City, she was raised in Richmond, Virginia. However, there are cast members on Harlem that have strong ties to the New York City borough, including: Harlem native Bevy Smith (Aunt Tammy), longtime Washington Heights resident Jasmine Guy (Patricia), and Bronx natives Juani Feliz (Isabela) and Kadeem Ali Harris (Brandon). Popsugar caught up with Bevy, Jasmine, and Juani at the Harlem premiere at the Magic Johnson Theatre in Harlem to discuss what the neighborhood means to them. We also spoke to Robert Ri'chard and Juani about how Amazon integrated the series with Harlem.

For any Og Meagan Good and Robert Ri'chard fans, you might've caught their sweet throwback reference in Prime Video's Harlem. The two old friends are costars on the new hit series, but it's not their first time sharing the screen together.
Back in 1998, Ri'chard and Good both starred on a Nickelodeon sitcom called Cousin Skeeter alongside comedian Bill Bellamy. And during episode four of Harlem, the rom-com series paid homage to the beloved '90s show. "Wait a second, he looks like this guy named Bobby I used to date in high school," Good's character Camille says of Ri'chard's Shawn in the episode. "He had an annoying cousin Skeeter."

Grace Byers broke into television on Fox’s “Empire” in 2015 as the poised but conniving Anika Calhoun and then moved on to bring antagonistic comic character Reeva Payge to life on “The Gifted” in 2018. While she has been thrilled to be seen as a dramatic actor, she hopes to continue showcasing her range and avoid being labeled or typecast, so when the script for Tracy Oliver’s “Harlem” came her way, she was thrilled. In it, Byers plays Quinn, a woman who comes from a privileged background but is struggling to make her own way — and money.
Was it always the role of Quinn that you connected with when reading the script for “Harlem”?
I think it’s really interesting because I tend to play very affluent characters, which is really funny to me because we definitely did not have a lot growing up; I definitely struggled a lot financially,...

If there's something that most people can agree on, it's the idea that the world could use more unity, community, justice, and change.
With its string of inspirational and heartening films, Lifetime presents The Fight that Never Ends, a film inspired by the real experiences of Joanne Beck, who serves as producer of the movie.
When times are bleak, it's nice to have uplifting and inspirational stories told, and this one fits the bill.
The Fight That Never ends is about community, the efforts of hardworking and selfless individuals who hope to instill change and curb the gang violence that is riddling a neighborhood.
It's a human story and a love one that pushes for the fight for racial justice through bringing unlikely souls together rather than sowing seeds of division.

The 2000s were lousy with remakes, some of them good, many of them lousy. Major horror franchises from the 1980s got a makeover; subversive ‘70s horror films received a glossy new coat of paint. One of the best of these remakes – and one which has finally begun getting its due over the last decade, building a cult audience and culminating in a new special edition Blu-ray – is House of Wax from 2005. It reimagines the 1953 Vincent Price classic (itself a remake of 1933’s Mystery of the Wax Museum) for a modern audience: gorier, sexier, and considerably more twisted. I’m certainly not the first to say it, but it’s more a remake of 1979’s underrated Tourist Trap than it is of House of Wax. As a remake of Tourist Trap, it’s pretty fantastic.

The latest in our series of writers sticking up for hated films is a call to reconsider Paris Hilton’s surprisingly effective performance in the horror remake
The stars of 2005’s House of Wax remake were all having their moments in Hollywood when they joined the reimagined slasher version of Vincent Price’s 1953 classic. Elisha Cuthbert had just broken out in 2004’s Girl Next Door while Chad Michael Murray was coming off both Freaky Friday and A Cinderella Story. Jared Padalecki starred opposite the Olsen Twins in A New York Minute in 2004 and Robert Ri’chard held his own opposite Samuel L Jackson in the early 2005 drama Coach Carter. And then there was Paris Hilton.

"Find a place to hide, and stay there." Lionsgate has released a trailer for a horror thriller titled Alone, not to be confused with any of the other films also titled Alone, including the one this year (about a kidnapping). This Alone is another pandemic virus thriller mixed with zombie horror. But the zombies in this are called "Screamers". Aidan barricades himself inside his apartment and rations his food. His complex is overrun by infected Screamers, and with the world falling apart into chaos, he is left completely alone fighting for his life. Tyler Posey stars as Aidan, but the full cast includes Donald Sutherland, Robert Ri'chard, Eric Etebari, and Summer Spiro. So he's not entirely alone in this. So ballsy: Chocolate City, a black rip-off of Magic Mike, actually name checks Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike (2012) twice -- once in its opening scene even! -- and names it lead character Mike. In one conversation its strippers even dismiss Magic Mike for being 'only a movie' as if they're authentic fantasy workers in a documentary.
Not ballsy enough: Chocolate City has zero actors as brave as Matthew McConaughey what with his g-string ass up to the camera writhing and no actors as nonchalantly nude as Channing Tatum doing that birthday suit bathroom strut. If you're aiming for an even cheaper riff on one of the great low budget success stories of recent cinema (Magic Mike grossed 24 times its meager budget globally; hits are generally lucky to quadruple their budgets) shouldn't you exploit what your mama gave you?

In theaters and On Demand May 22, "Chocolate City" takes viewers into the world of black male strippers. Robert Ri'chard ("Coach Carter," "One on One") plays Michael, a young college student struggling to make ends meet who meets a strip club owner that convinces him to give amateur night a try. We spoke with Ri'chard and Imani Hakim ("Everybody Hates Chris", "The Gabby Douglas Story"), who plays Michael's girlfriend Carmen, to talk about the movie and their transition from child acting to building their careers in adulthood. Imani Hakim on joining the "Chocolate City" cast: Ih: I'm always looking to do...

Magic Mike was great for many reasons, one being that it finally acknowledged that women like to go to the movies and shamelessly lust after who's onscreen, too. (Thank you, again!) But it wasn't perfect, and had a severe lack of black male strippers working the pole. Luckily, we now have the trailer for Chocolate City, Jean-Claude La Marre's very necessary "black version" of Magic Mike. It stars Robert Ri'chard as a guy struggling to make ends meet with his mom (Vivica A. Fox), who does what anyone desperate for some fast cash would do: sign up for amateur night! Michael Jai White recruits him for his strip club (DJ-ed by Carmen Electra, sure), and it's there that "Sexy Chocolate" is born. Tyson Beckford's abs are also involved, and so is a Ginuwine cameo! Your move, Magic Mike Xxl.

You heard the prompt: The 10 Hottest Former Child Stars. Can I confess something? It's harder to think of these than you think!
Let's face it, everybody's looks peak at a certain point, and if you're a child actor, there's a distinct chance you'll look your best at age 11. That's not the case with these 10 gents, who've grown up into seriously studly creatures. Here they are, ranked and ready for scrutiny.
10. Jonathan Lipnicki
The Jerry Maguire kid apparently enjoys the gym. The onetime kid star's body is basically an adamantium sheath, and he's also perfected his photogenic stoicism.
9. Chad Allen
Yes to gay child actors who come out, and Yes specifically to alums of the 1990 TV movie Camp Cucamonga, which I consider the Gone With the Wind of summer camp movies featuring G. Gordon Liddy in a supporting role. Chad's hot, out, and readily shirtless. Phew.

The Vampire Diaries 3.20 "Do Not Go Gentle" Review
Big dance events are generally high on the danger list in Mystic Falls and the Decade Dance is one of the most perilous as the past two seasons of The Vampire Diaries has shown us. This is an eventful night and despite the previous occasions these characters still attend and organize the event with such gusto that you would hope that one of these times there won't be death and destruction. Last season at the 60s dance Alaric (Matt Davis) was possessed by Klaus (Joseph Morgan), but unfortunately for our favorite history teacher it looks like this will be an even worse night and he didn't even get to go to the dance this year.
The Alaric story was front and center of tonight's episode but the tragic resolution was not one that I would have predicted, even though the writing has...

Bad news, 'Beremy' fans! Robert Ri'chard tells HollywoodLife.com that Bonnie & Jamie's new romance 'might be too much for Jeremy to stop.' Last week's episode of The Vampire Diaries focused on "Delena," but the April 26 installment is all about "Beremy" -- no wait, make that "Bamie." Robert Ri'chard tells HollywoodLife.com that Jamie and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are "looking towards their future," which begins with a date to the '20s dance, and that Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) may have to be left in Bonnie's past. "Jamie is with her throughout the entire episode," Robert tells me. "She's protecting him, but he's also protecting her. When you have that dynamic, where both people are looking out for each other, they're bound to be drawn together romantically. We see that unfold in this episode." Of course, there are still plenty of unresolved issues between Bonnie and her ex. She dumped...

Silly little high schoolers on The Vampire Diaries, don't you know dances are for deaths? Three seasons in and the CW hit stills loves itself some good ol' drama at a decade dance and season three's '20s-themed fiesta in episode 20 looks to be no different, judging from these hot sneak-peek photos of the April 26 episode. On the menu? Some angst between Caroline (Candice Accola) and the two hybrids in her life, Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan), plus some tears from Elena (Nina Dobrev) who turns to one Salvatore brother for a shoulder to cry on. At least Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jaime (Robert Ri'chard) look pretty darn adorable, right?! While we're told Caroline...

They may share a last name, but The Vampire Diaries has made it very clear: Jamie Bennett is Not Bonnie Bennett's brother. Did you catch that not-so-subtle line on last Thursday's episode?
It was reiterated to me again last night on the phone with Robert Ri'chard, who has come on board The CW thriller in the role of Abbie's adopted son. What did producers tell him about the role when he first signed on?
"They made it clear I'm not Bonnie's brother," the actor said. "I'm not family to her, but I'm gonna play an important, personal role in her life."
Meaning what, exactly? Will romantic sparks fly? Robert Ri'chard couldn't say, but he did elaborate on a bond that forms between the pair.
With Abby out of both of their lives, Jamie and Bonnie will grow "closer and closer," Robert Ri'chard teased. "She's the only person he can turn to.

Bonnie (Kat Graham) walks amongst the Bennett graves and sees the locked coffin. Klaus (Joesph Morgan) creeps up and tells her he knows how to open it, can she? She then finds herself shut inside a coffin. She's having more dreams which are sending her a message. What's that then, to find her mother? Bonnie can't resist showing Elena (Nina Dobrev) the coffins, doing what Stefan (Paul Wesley) didn't want her to. She needs Elena's help to find her mother, Abby, (Persia White) so that she can help with the coffin. Elena thinks Bonnie should let Stefan obsess over opening the coffin for himself. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) finds out where Abby is using compulsion, in which case he should have also compelled the compul-see to forget what he asked for. Well it makes sense for later. Especially since Klaus has his hybrid spies everywhere. Damon thinks they're going on a road trip and calls 'shotgun.

Vampire Diaries season 3 Bonnie to get more romantic with new guy Jamie & more. Hollywood Life recently chatted it up with Vampire Diaries Bonnie's new man Jamie played by actor Robert Ri'chard, and he dropped a few teasers we can expect to see between Jamie and Bonnie, moving forward. He revealed that there's definitely more story to be told with that whole situation, and it'll "drift towards Bonnie because, I guess, she has a pretty flawed love life." He went on to reveal that we can expect to see more chemistry develop between Bonnie and Jamie, especially as he continues to stay close with Bonnie’s mom Abby. Finally,Robert revealed that his Jamie character will be Mia until episode 17 and 18,so it'll be a while before we see him back on the scene. In related news, episode 13 is up next, and we'll see the return of Elijah, along with Klaus' other brothers Finn and Kol.

Robert Ri'chard previews how Bonnie & Jamie's relationship will grow & reveals why he's impressed by Paul Wesley. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) has one very good reason to return to Mystic Falls, and it goes by the name of Jamie (Robert Ri'chard.) Although Bonnie's (Kat Graham) alleged "new love interest" didn't get too much screen time with her on his inaugural episode of The Vampire Diaries, Robert assures HollywoodLife.com he'll be back to make some magic happen. "There's more story to be told, and it'll drift towards Bonnie because, I guess, she has a pretty flawed love life," Robert tells me. (Yeah, that's a bit of an understatement.) The Vampire Diaries 3.12 "The Ties That Bind" Review
At the heart of The Vampire Diaries family is what is important and this episode showcases this central theme. The connections between family has been the driving force of Stefan's (Paul Wesley) vendetta against Klaus (Joseph Morgan) through using Klaus' family coffin collection as leverage; but after he succeeded in getting Klaus to remove his hybrids from Mystic Falls what will be his next move? As this is The Vampire Diaries we don't have to wait long for either vampire to take action, but it is Bonnie (Kat Graham) who could prove to be the most valuable player in this good old fashioned stalemate.
Stefan asked for Bonnie's help thanks to her ability to harness her power to hide the coffins and also to help open the mysterious fourth coffin that is sealed with a spell (and not a kiss). Bonnie is...

Stefan showed signs of improvement this week. Do you think this means he & Elena will get back together? After a week of awkward tension, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) decided to tell everyone about their big kiss on the Jan. 19 episode of The Vampire Diaries -- and much to my surprise, the most emotional reaction came from the seemingly heartless Stefan (Paul Wesley)! Maybe there's some humanity in there after all. "You're better than him, Elena," Stefan told her after apologizing for kidnapping her last week. "You're better than both of us." Stefan wasn't quite as forgiving of Damon, however, as he greeted him with a big ol' punch in the face when he returned home. Ah, brotherly love. Meanwhile, desperate to open the elusive coffin, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and friends met up with her estranged mother Abby (Persia White), but they were disappointed to discover that Abby...

It will also be revealed that Abby used to practice witch craft as well.
